2005 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Kompressor Rwd 2dr Sport Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M)

Review

The C230 replaced a 2002 launch edition MINI cooper. The C230 is a much different car, more comfort, no where near the razor edge handling of the MINI. MINI had reliability problems from day 1. Service could never fix the issues. MB dealer treated the customer fairly with respect, unlike MINI service. Leagues more power than MINI, darn near the same mileage.

Favorite Features

Panorama sunroof, engine power, heated seats, Evolution package

Suggested Improvements

Standard power adjusting seats and standard heated seats.

2005 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C55 AMG 4dr Sedan (5.4L 8cyl 5A)

Review

My wife and I had to decide between the the C55, the M3, and the new Corvette. The C55 was clearly the best of the three. The Corvette is cheaper, but it isn't nearly as safe as either the BMW or the Benz. The key difference between the C55 and the M3 is the interior. One look inside of an M3, and you will know that the car is built for performance. The C55 is built for performance and for luxurious comfort. For just $1,000 more than an M3, the C55 offers a hand-made engine, Nav system, single disc CD player with a 6-disc changer in the glove box, heated seats, four doors, and much, much more. The C55 is really an outstanding deal for the money it costs.

Favorite Features

The AMG trim and the hand-built engine. However, unlike the other C- class models, Mercedes dealers typically order C55s fully loaded. Every option and accessory is worth the money. It's a luxury car with an engine that can beat nearly every car on the road.

Suggested Improvements

Only small suggestions. The C55 could use, as options, a tire pressure monitor and a keyless go device. The tire pressure monitor is the one useful "toy" the 2005 Corvette had that the C55 is lacking. Other than that, this car has been perfect.

2005 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C55 AMG 4dr Sedan (5.4L 8cyl 5A)

Review

I came out of a Porsche Boxster wanting something with four doors and performance. I did my homework and decided on the C55 AMG. I couldn't be more happier. It's faster than a Boxster and doesn't draw near the attention of a 2 seater sportscar. The tiptronic style transmission with the paddles on the steering wheel is nice but I usually simply put the car in "D". After 6 tanks of gas I'm averaging just over 20 MPG. Not too bad. The climate control works well and the cruise control and other "don't have to take you hands off the wheel" controls are perfect. The enterior as a whole is well done with the center glove box being adjustable up and down- nice touch- Awesome car

Favorite Features

Adjustable height middle glove box. Awesome headlights. Power!

Suggested Improvements

This may defeat the purpose of this car but the Euro AMG badging would be nic.- I had to retrofit them to mine.

Review

Although a little pricey, this car is worth every cent. After owning other Mercedes, a BMW, a Corvette and a Ferrari, I can honestly say that this car is the most fun and the most practical to drive. It has excellent road manners whether in the city or out on the highway. Even after opening it up on the road, it still gets around 20 mpg. The engine is a masterpiece in sound, speed and appearance. The suspension is fantastic and the tires work very hard. I can only begin to imagine what the C63 will be like.

Favorite Features

The sound, the power, the handling and the ability to leave almost everything else on the road in the mirror. The sound system is excellent.

Suggested Improvements

The driver's seat could provide a little more support on the sides. The COMAND system was not available; I miss it from my last Benz. The navigation needs to be improved up to the level of the Japanese luxury imports. Parktronic would also be helpful.

Review

Bought this car about 3 months ago used with 37k miles from the 2nd owner. It's what you expect from a german car, tight and solid but yet refined while hugging the road like a sports car. The ride is perfect, not harsh and not too loose like other non AMG models. The engine roars you through the rpm range and makes a great sound. The car is plenty quick, but it would be a monster with the 5.4 Supercharged version found in the E55

Favorite Features

Interior, build quality

Suggested Improvements

E55 powerplant, more aggressive styling
