2003 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M) C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M)
Recently bought my C230 Kompressor w/ manual 6 speed tranny. So far so good. It's just over 100,000 miles, 1 owner and care for... it shows. Also purchased and very extensive 5yr/100k extended warranty too. I've owned 72 cars (all different makes/models) and have been a BMW fan for ever. This is my 3rd Benz and its a pleasure to drive. 30+ mpg on the freeway @ 85+mph, shifts smooth and has decent power to climb freeway hills with ease, even in 6th gear. Traded in my Jaguar S-type for this and I have no regrets. I will say the Jaguar was a better looking car, but that's it. I'll update more as I add more miles...
6 speed manual, supercharger, 1/2 power - 1/2 manual from seats. Metal interior accents (none of that boring wood stuff), factory 17" rims, pretty kick-a$$ factory stereo system...
Front cup holders are worthless, "auto-on" headlights don't activate with the fog/driving lights which means if you like using the fogs, you CAN'T use the auto on, really??? The Kompressor engine is a little noisy but seems to be the norm with different years I've observed/heard, The bright RED paint wasn't my favorite choice, but its growing on my. Besides, small price to pay for a manual 6 speed Benz...
2003 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M) C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M)
I purchased this car when it was new back in October 2002. I was a sport package with leather n panorama roof and Bose system. Such a fun car to drive. Over the years I'd put on 130k mileage on it so far. This was my third car I purchased new. my kind of driving style both my civic and accord never made it to 120k... This 230k had been some cam repair done within the first 50k warranty. and replaced the OC sensor and some hosts last year. other than that I have no issue with the engine, transmission and the radiator whatsoever. It'd been such a reliable car. I'm going to keep this car for another 130k hopefully. and just do my synthetic oil change every 5k miles and see how far it can go..
sports car seat my body won't shift left and right. roomy rear seats, quality Bose System, exterior paint still show room shine after 8 years, very very quiet ride, good mileage...
2003 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M) C320 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (3.2L 6cyl 6M)
Been a very good car (close to 100K miles now). The only failures have been the hood struts, pano roof, and the multi function display. Both hood struts and MFD are easily fixed by anyone with the slightest mechanical skill. Pano roof is basically unfixable because of the significant cost (and lack of utility anyway). Handles very well had has adequate power. A bit slow off of the line though. Very practical as it is a hatchback and storage is generous. Rear seats fold down which gives even more cargo room. Simple to maintain yourself (both A & B service). Get one used with the leather interior and the Bose sound system (sound is excellent). Avoid the pano roof if possible. I give it an A-
Bose sound system Summer/Winter suspension modes V6 engine Leather seats very comfy Oil check system is great (no need to open hood)
A pano roof that is not prone to failure. Same for the multi function display.
2003 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M) C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M)
I'm pleased with my purchase. The cost for maintenance and repairs are the worst aspect of this vehicle. When it is time to do brake work, be prepared to drop $1,000. Mercedes is the only one who can get the specialized soft brake pads with the specialized coating. It handles exceptional for a 4-cylinder vehicle. It can turn on a dime and has uncharacteristically fast acceleration for a small car. Great car for a first Mercedes or for a hand-me-down to a teenager.
I love the weather band radio. The leather and interior quality is overall very good. The entire glass roof is a nice feature. It feels like a safe and responsive car.
Because of the glass sunroof, you get occasional creaks when changing driving surfaces (like turning slowly from driveway onto street). Improve the plastics durability. Improve the AIS system which is common to go out and very expensive to fix/replace.
2003 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M) C320 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (3.2L 6cyl 6M)
One owner, 40 k miles, has never been in the shop except for scheduled maintenance. Not too many of the V-6 coupes imported, hard to find in USA. Fast, fun to drive and gets great gas mileage.
Hugs the road, turns on a dime.
I had this as my first car. The car is very attractive. I have had numerous problems such as, alternator, batteries, serpentine belt. I would also note that I upgraded the drive train, supercharger belt, and the exhaust. This improved the gas mileage on the highway to 33-35. I would also like to note the faux leather placed on knobs and buttons have begun to fall apart. Outside of that the car is cool, also all of mercedeces cars during this time had trouble with fiberoptics, which were just being introduced. This could explain the "ghost" that seems to plague most mercedes of the early 2000's. I would recommend buying domestic because they are cheaper to repair
Styling and fuel mileage
Recently purchased this car for commute to and from work. Averaging 25 mpg, over 30 on the freeway! The car is sporty but not overly flashy, and is a lot of fun to drive. It is our second MB, and now I wonder why we ever drove anything else. It is a much stiffer ride than most MBs, but that just adds to the sporty feel of it. Bigger back seat than you would think for the size of the car, and the seats fold down so you can fit a surprising amount of cargo when necessary. This car is destined to be passed to our oldest when she begins driving.
MB prestige, steering wheel controls, hatch back and folding seats, sporty feel
On board computer menus are complicated
I purchased this car used for 15,500 in Feb. 2007 with only 40,000 miles on it. It handled well but sucks gas like you cant believe. It doesn't help that every trip to the station requires 93 octane either. Regardless, 13,000 miles later (3000 off warantee) one morning, a complete suprise, the engine begins to shake. I take it to get the oil changed only to have the entire car give out 30 mins later. I had it towed to the dealership to find out that 2 pistons were bent 5' totaling a bill of 4800.00 dollars. This isn't the first time I've heard of this happening since I bought the car. Maybe thats why they stopped making this model?? left me with 8000 neg. equity for my next car. Thnks benz
fast, especially when you kick into the auto-stick shifter.
Make a more dependable car. IT SUCKS STAY AWAY!!!
Traded my gas guzzling Range Rover in on this C-230 Sport sedan. Great driver, affordable MB. Eye catching style...I highly recommend this car!
Style, design, fuel economy
Just a bit more power would be great!
This was my first car. I'm in high school and even though I'm young I love and research cars nonstop. I have had my c230 coupe since 9/06 and it was my dream car until about a month ago. My sunroof cable broke and that was the only part that the extended warranty didnt cover. Less than a week later, my engine started shaking and the check engine came on. Took it in and there is a flaw with Mercedes and something in the cylinders can get stuck open and dont bet on your insurance/warranty place to cover anything. Cost for new cylinder: $5000. Too much maintainance, in shop too much, need a more reliable car so I'm selling. Overall, I love the car to death but not worth the time in the shop and hassle.
Look of the front end, great sunroof and 2nd moonroof for the back seat. Kompressor kicks in and it's fun to drive
No CD player? Back end looks need to be improved. Need to be more reliable. If you can afford spending at least a couple grand a month to maintain it, then there is no problem.
I have had this car for over 4 years now and still looks sharp. Paint has held up well and even where I have chips/scrapes very little rust. Excellent gas mileage (28+) for such a sporty car. Good performance and still feels 'solid' (no flex or gives) just like when I bought it. Very comfortable for a small car as long as you are not too tall in back seat. Trunk room is average for small car. Would get higher ratings but it's a horrible car in the snow. I got stuck once on flat driveway <1" snow. With all season tires still bad in snow. Also, car is very tough on tires, wearing them quickly. Car was in shop 4 times (fortunately under warranty) for computer and sensor prob.
Sporty (not fast) but still excellent gas mileage. Very stable at high speeds. Good radio and interior temperature control systems. Very sporty wheels (I got the sport upgrade)
Horrible in snow! Wouldn't buy any rear-wheel drive again living in Pennsylvania. Also, why does MB recommend only 91 octane gas or better? Limited paint colors unless you want to pay extra. Interior color choices limited (light gray stains easily).
No problems whatsoever. I get around 33mpg on long interstate trips, but only about 20 or so in town. I don't even try to go out if we get a few inches of snow. First winter, got stuck by my mailbox and the mail lady helped push me out, in 3" of snow. Tried top of the line snow tires plus sand bags and got nothing. This is the only complaint with this car, save the onboard computer controls could be a bit clearer, but I hardly use them anyway. Car is pretty, and 3 years later still gets turned heads when I pull a corner! From adults, too! Turns nice and tight, has a ton of features for such a "cheap" car.
Supercharger, tiptronic, panoramic sunroof, auto wipers, audio controls, dual climate control, cool cupholder
Front wheel drive at least. I know that's not the point of a "sports coupe" but when a few inches of snow keeps you home, that ain't cool (I love snow). Wouldn't mind standard xenon headlights.
I was literally one of the first to buy a 2003 C230 coupe and I've loved it ever since. I have to be completely honest here and tell you that its had its fair share of electrical problems. The only problem was the engine was revving at idle just slightly, but this was fixed by replacing the engine controller (paid by warranty) and now it runs smooth as ever. This was the first MB to have the M271 engine and I was expecting some bugs. Other than that I've had the check engine light come on at least a half dozen times, but I've got that taken care of now. I've had no mechanical problems of any kind, no squeaks, rattles or anything like that, just minor electrical problems. Love the car!
Built solid as a rock. Mechanical quality is unmatched. Interior is laid out beautifully. Unique styling (you won't see many on the road). Tons of cargo space when seats are folded down (I love hatchbacks). Affordable for a MB. Not the quickest off the line, but handling is top notch. All glass roof.
Electrical issues need to be ironed out by MB. Engine could be a little stronger at low RPM but what do you expect for such an affordable price, if you want a fast MB you have to pay for it. Transmission could be smoother, but only the pickiest of drivers will notice.
So far great! Love the high tech performance of a world class engine, that is way ahead of its time. This type engine technology is currently being copied by US automakers. This is a real race car engine. British F3 series open wheel cars, which equates too 160mph. They are destroying the other cars that run Hondas. Adaptive performance in a hatchback, is a car that is a phnomenal value in my book.
Engine, styling, fuel economy, panoramic glass, safety, audio system, smart wipers, value.
Fatter tires and wheels. Slightly plusher seats.
2003 Mercedes-Benz C-Class C230 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (1.8L 4cyl S/C 6M) C320 Rwd 2dr Sports Coupe (3.2L 6cyl 6M)
If Mercedes Benz built a Mustang; this would be it. I have had my C320 coupe for almost 3 years and a little over 30K miles. It is one of the rare ones equipped with short throw a six speed manual. (Less than 50 C320s with manuals where imported from Germany). The car continues to make me smile everytime I drive it. The acceleration is impressive, the handling tight and the fuel economy, surprisingly good. There will never be a Mercedes quite like this one in the US again; too bad. I've heard that the C350 version in Europe (278HP) can do 0-60 in 5.4 sec.
SLK/Crossfire performance with room for four or very large packages.
Continued availablity. It would have been nice to be able to get the diesel version (45mpg)
I leased it 3 years ago and it was my first MB. Initially it was a fun car to drive. With the Kompressor engine I was zipping around and not spending a lot on gas. But as soon as it started to snow it was terrible. I've driven rear-wheel drives in the snow before, but the torque was too much and I was spinning all over the place. Also, the A/C and heat is so weak, thankfully I had the heated seats. I'm turning it in in 3 weeks and getting a C280 4Matic. Also, the dealer told me MB stopped making the C230 coupes...I wonder why...
Tight turn radius, good handling, very zippy. Sunroof.
Heating and cooling weak. No good in the snow. Small interior and not comfortable on long rides.
I could not believe that a working man could own a Benz w/5 year, 50K mile all inclusive plan for the same price as a moderate class GM or other American car. The car is flawless, gets 30+ MPG and is a blast when using the tap shifter with the rev limiter. Winding roads are fun. It has that classic Mercedes feel on the road. I have driven it 45K miles and have had it serviced by the dealer. It has cost me nothing except brake pads and I replaced them myself. There's not a shake, rattle or roll in the car. I smile every time I get to drive it.I have owned a new Lincoln, Chrysler, Volkswagon, Chevy's and my Benz beats them all. I bought a twin Benz in 2003 for my wife. Bravo! Mercedes
Not another Camry or Accord. More cost effective than BMW or Audi. Very good exterior style - turns heads. I was looking for a Passat, and when I saw the Mercedes and test drove it, I was sold.
Performance, styling, efficiency.
On board computer is very confusing to navigate.
This is a great car, even though that it is the cheapest Mercedes sold. It's a fun car to drive and still has all of the safety features expected from a Mercedes. The leather makes a huge difference over the cloth and gives the car that luxury feel. Panorama sunroof makes the ride enjoyable for rear seat passengers and there is enough room in the back for full sized adults. Overall, an excellent car.
I have now owned this car for 2 1/2 years and thought an update would be appropriate. I purchased this car in Honolulu but have since moved to the mainland. This car has been from Louisiana to California twice and to Chicago and back once. All three of these trips averaged around 29 MPG, with an average speed nearing 75 MPH! Not bad. The last trip was a 1705 mile trip over two days; I had no back pain with very few stops. This car does have more creaks and rattles than I would like, is very small, and doesn't handle much luggage, but for a work day runner and with the cost of gas today, I still made a fantastic choice.
Gas mileage, sunroof, nimble feel on the road, no worries due to maintenance plan.
Several improvements are necessary. The sound system quality in this car is pathetic and I admit, I listen to it very little due to this. The tires placed on the car new only got 21,000 miles before they were bald. Too many rattles for a Mercedes Benz. Would I buy it again? Maybe?
Having driven many Mercedes in past but never owning one until now, I am not disappointed. I bought mine barely used with only 3000 miles on it over 18 months ago and the true market value on Edmunds for Private Party sale is about the same as what I originally paid. Great value for the money. Would considering buying again when the next model comes out. Definitely worth buying compared to comparably priced cars such as Accord V6, Acura RSX, etc.
Panaramic roof, auto dimming mirrors, auto rainshield wipers, sound system, remote control, good handling and great gas mileage (but still has decent power)
Wish I had the power seats, which are overpriced. Auto transmission sometimes a little testy going from first to second gear.
I've owned my 2003 Mercedes-Benz C320 for almost two years and 7,000 miles without any no problems. I love it, and my wife has to tear the keys out my hands every couple weeks to borrow it for the day. It still feels new, looks new, and drives like it cost twice the money. If I could only find an AMG motor and brakes to drop into it...
The handling, the room (I'm 6'4" and fit great), the power. And can't forget those breaks. Dynamic exhilaration at it's best. My wife loves the panorama roof, my son the audio system. I love the 17" wheels and leather... ah, the smell. Even after 23 months...
Drink holder is flimsy, so we are careful with it, but it works. I have two small kids who love to ride in back, but there is no drink holder for them whatsoever. It needs one back there.
This is a superb car with great looks. It handles corners great and has pep.
Looks and handling.
Get another CD changer.
This is the wife's car but I drive it every chance I get. When looking for this car we drove just about everthing in the two door 25-40K price range and found the C230 to be the best value. We also liked the BMW 330 but could not justify the extra 10K to get the same options as the Mercedes. And for about the same price as the BMW 225 we thought the C230 was just a nicer car. With the 17" tires the suspension is fantastic, soft and quiet at cruising speed yet tight and stiff on country roads. Engine is excellent, does not suck you into your seat like my 01 Stang GT but that is not the goal of this car.
Great gas millage, trip computer shows us getting 33MPG on trips. Safety features are world class. Leather seats are of excellent quality far exceeding the stuff put in by most other builders. Like the 6 speed manual.
Sunroof - way too much wind noise on the highway. 17" Tires - not a complaint because I think they really finish the car off and would buy them again but we are only going to get 20k miles out of them, just a heads up on that...
After waiting over twenty years to buy my first Benz - finally getting one was an underwhelming exercise in futility. This is a TERRIBLE car, built like any other Pinto, Gremlin or Vega - HONESTLY. Bad build quality, rattles, squeaks, LOUD when driving it, alignment that can't be fixed, a transmission that can't be diagnosed, and a Corporate Office that refuses to deal with customers on ANY level whatsoever. I was told their Director of Customer Assistance does NOT read, or answer his mail, nor will he contact any customers. THIS is Mercedes Benz? THINK TWICE IF YOU ARE IN THE MARKET FOR A BENZ.....
Supercharged Engine, that displays its prowess when IT wants to, not when you want it to. Sometimes a sugar rush of power - other times, nothing...
Corporate Customer Assistance Department should ACTUALLY ASSIST THEIR CUSTOMERS. The transmission on this car is garbage. Bad build quality - should not have RATTLES AND SQUEAKS at 2500 - 3000 miles. I've bought and owned 13 cars over 28 years - THIS is the worst.
When selecting a car by price, around 25000, nothing beats a new Mercedes, hands down. You get all the toys, quality, and 40000 maintence free miles along with 26-32 mpg. The car has so many gadgets that it takes 3 hours to read the owners manual and it is packed with precision engineered components. The tap shifter and Supercharger combine to thrill the driver from 0-60. The car wants to go,go,go, and at higher speeds is very stable. Go look at everything in the price range and then drive the Benz. From the 2 moon roofs to the ESP to the unbelievable acceleration, the car is plush.
Auto wipers, auto headlights, tap shift, supercharger, moon roof, all glass fast back, great 6 cd changer, turn hugging tires and suspension, and fantastic mileage!
There is absolutely nothing that could improve this car! It has it all!
I usually trade cars every year but I may actually keep this one! It drives and handles great. Alot of fun to drive.
Panoramic Sunroof, Gas Mileage, Price, Supercharged engine
Make the dashboard menus a little less complicated. Ability to use Regular Fuel vs. Premium
I must admit this is by far the worst car I have ever bought. I must add that the Mercedes-Benz customer service depertment in New Jersey is not much better, actually they need to call it "Cusatomer Avoidance". Very poor attention to customer needs. My engine's top end (Head) blew at about 13,000 miles. After extensive research on MY part, I found MB knew anout the issue and sent no service bulletine to the field nor was a recall deployed to get these bad engines back. My car has been in the shop for 68 days now and I still have no date at to getting it back. My suggestion to a possible buyer of a C230, is to go buy a Japaneese car!!!!! I wish I had....
Very poor quaility on both material and workmanship.
I have the car (2002 C230 Cope 6MT with the sport pkg and the panorama sunroof) already 18 month and this is my toy car. It makes me younger! With the car suspension I feel that I am driving like on a German autobahn again. The car service on my local dealership is just great. What else do I need?
I like the car suspension, 6 speed MT, sound of the supercharged engine(an impressive 200 lb-ft of torque between 2500 rpm and 4800 rpm), panorama sunroof, the dashboard, AM/FM/cassette radio, advanced safety features.
Mecedes should make this car as a 5-6 seconds car.
This is a solid, quiet, fast, sporty, comfy riding, economical, comfortable on long trips, reasonably priced vehicle. The automatic is slower shifting than the manual but is versatile. Brakes are strong & progressive. Lighting systems & controls are sturdy/effective. Very roomy with back seats down. A bit awkward to back up due to lack of clear rear view or side rear views. Tracks well and feels secure and safe. Great car.
Engine, economy,solidity,good looks.
front bumpers are very low and scrape easily on concrete parking lot stops. Needs better side mirrors to deal with blind spots at rear sides.
I've had the car for two years and have had no complaints. Still loving it.
Everything is an option which got a bit pricey. Incorporating standard options (leather, sunroof, cd, seat warmers) in a discounted package would be great.
Simply just a blast!
Besides the sunroof, The actual power,& upgrade the sound system, then you're in for a treat!
CAR IS REALLY WELL BUILT -- NO SQUEAKS, NO RATTLES. THE SEATS ARE VERY COMFORTABLE. WITH A BAD BACK I CAN DRIVE 300+ MILES WITHOUT STOPPING AND STRETCHING, THE INTERIOR DESIGN IS EXCELLENT -- PARTICULARLY THE GRID PATTERN METAL. THE PATTERN METAL LOOKS MUCH MORE SPORTY THAN FAKE WOOD VENEER. THE SHIFTING IS VERY EASY AND QUICK. BOTTOM LINE -- A VERY WELL BUILT, SAFE, AND AGGRESSIVE CAR TO DRIVE.
THE 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. aLSO THE GAS MILEAGE. I GET 37+ MPG IN 6TH GEAR AT 70 MPH. NOT BAD FOR AN AGGRESSIVE SUPERCHARGED 4-CYLINDER ENGINE. THE SAFETY EQUIPMENT IS AN EXCELLENT BENEFIT. REAR ENGINE DRIVE IS ALSO SUPERB AFTER HAVING DRIVEN FRONT ENGINE DRIVE CARS FOR YEARS.
THE DOOR SILL PROTECTION ON INTERIOR SIDE OF DOOR OPENING SHOULD BE STAINLESS STEEL AND NOT THE LIGHT COLORED PLASTIC. THE LIGHT MATERIAL CAN SCUFF TOO EASILY.
My girlfriend wanted this car based on the pictures she had seen on the web. I talked her into dropping by the local dealership and test driving one. We took it for a spin and fell in love. It felt like we were driving on rails. I am an agressive driver and it will handle some pretty serious turning without loosing traction and the Supercharger helps keep us ahead of traffic. I had an Integra GSR which was almost 700lbs lighter and this stock 230 definately out performs my Acura even with several thousand dollars worth of aftermarket performance upgrades dropped into my Integra.
Excelent Dry Weather Handeling. Decent Fuel Economy. Quiet Interior. Stock performance upgrades, Supercharger, 17" wheels, Lowered suspension. Decent sounding stereo System. Panorama sunroof is nice too.
I would suggest that Mercedes put standard power front seats, Interior Power door locks. A standard In-dash cd player option and my stereo Reception could be better. Other than that is it a perfect car.
I actually never really considered purchasing a Mercedes. They just seemed like another overpriced brand name car (such as BMW). After shopping for a new Accord coupe (a comparably equipped one will cost $22K), I decided to check out the C-class coupe since it was in a comparable price range. I love the car after test driving it. It is by far the most fun vehicle I've ever driven that's under $30K.
Panarama moonroof, interior features such as pop-up cup holder, premium Bose sound system, onboard computer with steering wheel controls, good acceleration
Rear exterior, auto transmission a little sensitive at times
I LOVE this car. I was nearly killed in an SUV after it flipped over, and this car gives me all the perks and safety of a Mercedes, as well as the shlepping capacity of a small SUV! The hatchback is phenomenal. It also has a very light security cover that even a 5'2" woman can easily take off and on. The rear seats also fold down individually to create extra capacity! The car handles phenomenally-- makes U- turns with ease-- and has excellent acceleration. It's a smaller car, but not so small that you feel as if you're going to be smushed like a bug. Sunroof is nice to have. Radio has AM/FM/Weather band.
Hatchback with rear seats that fold down for extra capacity + great acceleration and handling.
You need an engineering degree to read the dashboard and flip through it. Light-colored seats have to be special- ordered, which doesn't make sense with a light-colored car, especially in Texas, with 108-degree summers.
i have allot of problems with mine it stalls at all different times.. they are still unable to fix it after 4 months of the problem and 5 trys
go back to the 2.5 engin
Love the gas mileage and performance on the highway. We tested about a dozen cars in the same price range before chosing the C230. The car drives like a 35K vehicle!
acceleration and handling
Worst engine ever driven period enough said.
Better reliability Smoother engine Higher material grade
great car with lots of options.
I couldn't be happier..I was concerned about "get up and go"..what a joke that concern was. With little effort it engages and it reminds me of the star wars.. warp speed! the only thing I would do to imporve it.. is make the seats a little more luxuriest. Mineis loaded so I have the leather..but would like to see a little "cushier" seats. IF you are able to purchase from Calabasa Motors DO. the service is beyond good.. it doesn't matter how small the issue is.. you are sent way with a loaner, no questions asked.
Before I purchased mine, I came to this site.I got the car with the premium pk (C5,C1-elect seats, plus the cd player). It was really worth it to get these extras. This car is sooooo easy to get around in. Big on front seat comfort but easy for parking. So far really hugs the road-will see what winter brings. My last car was the XJ8 Jaguar- so I was used to luxury and speed plus troubles with service. So far I really like this car.
Driving ease. Get the power seats-plus the installed cd player--great sun roof
power seats on all models- work on the drink holder. include another holder for the cd's--would make it easier to load the player
this is the best car i have ever had in my life.
The fast engine.
I love my little Mercedes. It is so distinctive to look at and very fun to drive. It never lets me down. When I press the pedal down - off we go. I was a little leary about buying a starter level Mercedes - the thought of paying for just the name. mBut that wasn't so. What is so is the dealerships treats me like royalty, whether is spent $27K or $270K. THey and Mercedes have made a believer out of me. I don't think I'd ever go back to a non-Mercedes vehicle. Buy it with confidence and Enjoy!
Zippy engine Huge Sunroof Auto dimming rearview mirrors Great turning radius
Wish they had had a navigational basic model in stock
I took over a lease on this car from the original leasee who drove the car for a year. I love this car. It is fun to drive, handles like an expensive Mercedes and has a user friendly price tag. The extras are staggering and I am still discovering features in this outstanding German made automobile.
Anti lock brakes, six airbags, super sound system, the car "knows" when it is raining and turns on the windshiled wipers. The huge sun roof is wonderful and the interior is very roomy. I could go on and on.
I would have power seats as a standard feature. Other than that, this is the perfect car.
I bought this car just over a month ago and have had nothing but a great driving experience ever since. The handling, horsepower and features are wonderful. The MBZ experience itself is great since you get the opportunity to get the same wonderful customer service that the more luxurious car owner's receive! it is also not something you see coming and going all the time, and the few I have seen here in the land of MBZ (Newport Beach) reveal a smirk from the other driver-- like, "wow, isn't this car great?" I recommend it highly!
Handling, horsepower, shifting up and down with the tiptronic, comfort features, front end and that wonderful sunroof! oh, and the hatchback/fold down seat thing is great...you can haul all kinds of stuff and still drive a sporty ride!
rear end design is a little strange at first, but you learn to enjoy it!
SHE WAS A 323 BMW OWNER THAT SHE JUST LOVED AND DROVE FOR 80K MILES WHICH FOR HER IS A LIFETIME.SO, WE WAITED FOR HER OBSIDIAN BLACK TO COME IN WITH ALL THE XTRAS. SHE PUT 4K MILES ON IT BEFORE THE CHECK ENGINE LITE CAME ON, SO SHE TOOK IT TO MERCEDES AND 7 WEEKS LATER AND A NEW ENGINE LATER WE FINALLY GOT THE CALL IT WAS DONE. I TOLD MERCEDES TO BUY IT BACK BECAUSE I WAS NOT GOING TO ACCEPT A NEW MERCEDES WITH A REBUILT ENGINE AND SHE WOULD GO BUY SOMETHING ELSE. AFTER SHOPPING AROUND AGAIN SHE DECIDED SHE STILL WANTS A C230 SPORT SEDAN SO WE WILL TRY IT ONE MORE TIME. CROSS OUR FINGERS....
MERCEDES-BENZ TO GET MORE INVOLVED WITH THIER CUSTOMERS WHEN THEY HAVE A LEMON. NOT THE DEALERSHIP BUT THE COMPANY..
I just got my car in June of this year and find every excuse to go out and drive it. It is responsive, fun and good looking. My only complaint is that it uses premium fuel, but I just love it.
dual panaroma view, tele-aid which I plan to get installed in the future. It is a solid car and I feel safe in it and very comfortable driving it. (I am 5'2"). My previous car (honda ex v6 seemed way too large)
30 mpg highway; 0-60 = 7 sec +/-; plenty of room for 4; carries 8' surfboard or complete drum kit handily (+ driver/passenger); solid and safe; exceptionally quiet @ speed; Bose system = no complaints; incredibly tight turning radius; oem Continentals need replacement @ 20k but ok for Z- rated; our family is hard-pressed to find fault w/ this 6 speed coupe -- see BAS note below.
Auto-everything but (6sp) transmission; C-5 leather/Bose/panorama pkg & C-7 sport/wheels/appearance pkg; Citron green paint; Motorola Timeport phone: all add up to fine vehicle w/ terrific fuel econ + excellent performance.
BAS/ESP system has malfunctioned 4x in 18 mos., local dealer (not where purch.) = v accomodating; no probs yet w/ MB service.
This is a great hatchback. It is quiet, handles well, great build quality, and gets good gas mileage. For a little more than a Honda you get a Mercedes with all maintenance paid for 4 years. The C230 is peppy and fun to drive.
Ride, handling and usefullness of a hatchback.
I bought the car 3 days ago and I'm writing the review so it's about the shopping experience. I was looking for ~$30,000 car. I test-drived BMW 325i, Infiniti G35 sedan, Acura TL, Eclipse GTS, MB C230/240 sedan, and C320 sports coupe. The C320 sports coupe gives me best handling (only 325 is close) and very good speed (G35 is faster, but handle sucks). It's the most lux car in the group. I love the panarama sun roof and the sports wheel. So far, it's like a dream come true.
Panarama sun roof. 17" wheel. Great handling and power. Lux interior. MB's sign.
Seats are hard to tile fwd/back.
Car is amall yet powerful, it blows out other car from the line up traffic light easilly.
I love this car. It has zip and my bike fits in the back...without a rack. It's a great car!
My bike fits inside and it's a zippy sports car...reasonably priced too!!!
motorized seats...the manual is a little inconvenience.
Was pretty sceptical about buying this baby at first, but I just couldn't pass off on owning a benz at such a low-low price.
It's cute, it flies, and ..oh ... It's a Benz.
Benz needs to make it look like the other benz coupes (CLK) since benz insists that this is a coupe not a hatchback.
I waited a year before writing a review. Purchased the C Coupe over BMW 3 and Acura CL. Car came loaded except for navigation system. 18,000 miles later, it is still a lot of fun. Extremely solid for a small car. Performance is wonderfully tight. I love the gas milage (18K per year adds up). The supercharged engine is provides more than sufficient power while saving MPG. The steering wheel controls are very convienient. Plenty of cargo room. I fit 2 patio chairs and a table in the hatch. The Bose stereo is a must. It can handle a Doors CD turned up to an 11. A great coupe for the price point.
Great sunroof, very responsive and very nice lines for a hatchback.
Get rid of the Continental performance tires and go back to Michelin. I had to replace the rear tires in less than a year.
ar is extremely fun to drive, and I haven't had one problem with it so far with a little over 3,000 miles so far. You'll definately want to look into the Panorama roof, and leather seats. And the top of the car looks cool, because it looks all glass, which is a nice touch. The leather seats are comfy but not too firm. They're perforated, which adds an extra sporty touch. The steering wheel feels great in your hands, and the buttons on there operate the little info screen in the dash, which has a lot of info to offer at any time. Good head room in the front, but not that great in the back, because it slopes down so much near the rear of the car.
Panarama roof, power seats, and leather seats. Interior design, and steering wheel.
Add more glass to the back. More speakers for the sound system.
I traded in my 2001 BMW 325i & 2002 C230 coupe for the new 2003 C320 coupe in 1/2003. I went in HOI in 1/2003 to check out the new C320 coupe. When I saw the xenon headlight & the 17 in wheel, I fell in love! After test driving the vehicle, I bought the car the next day.
V6 215hp, xenon headlight, 17 in wheel, and most importantly the ZOOM from 0 to 60 without a struggle. Not to mention the 400 miles per tank. It's a CLK with the CL headlight without the CLK or CL price tag.
choice of sun/moonroof as an option for those don't want the panorama roof and bump the 215 to 225 or 235 would be EXCELLENTE!!!!!!
my parents bought the car back in march for my for my 16th bday (driving age in fl is 16) and i'd have to say i'm completely satisfied with it. yeah i'm probably a baby compared to most people on this site, but i still think my input couldn't hurt. the car runs great, i love hearing the engine roar from 4000 to 5000 rpms every so often, and i get lots of looks in it haha. i can definitely tell the difference between the 230 and 320 models, the v6 improves performance like no other - it's a little rocket! i'd recommend it to anyone looking for a great car in this price range - i chose it over the audi a4, lexus IS300, and bmw 325i.
3.2 liter v6, 6 disc cd changer, handling, sport tuned suspension
none really, maybe have power seats standard
One of the best parts of owning this car is the dealership it came from. They have amazing customer service. Unfortunately I have had to use it a few more times than I would have liked. There was an electronic glitch that shut off the engine when I turned the wheel too hard. However, it is still GREAT to drive. I love blowing past everyone on the freeway (even the new 8 series BMW I saw the other day).
30% larger sun roof than any other car, moon roof
more room/comfort in the back seat, needs to be easier to get in the back seat, and needs a radar detector.
I bought the car about 7 weeks ago and absolutely love this vehicle. Not many vehicles impress me since I work in the automobile collision industry- but this one does. Sold a Lexus Is300 for this vehicle and I'm glad I did. Don't get me wrong, the lexus has a bit better quality control than the Benz but there is just something about German cars that make them so much more enjoyable to drive. This car feels as if it was chiseled out of stone. Fit and finish is typically German and everywhere I go, people look at me like with wonder, bewilderment and then envy for having such a nice vehicle at the ripe old age of 29.
German look, feel and smell!
I waited a year to write this to be sure it would be valid. This car has been a kick! I've got a 2300cc with the 6 speed, and have a blast driving it over the local mountain roads. I average 23 mpg city and over 30 on the highway - I can't imagine having this much fun and getting this mileage as well. It handles and accelerates like a pro (I've got the "wheel" package) and the sunroof is close enough to a convertible for me. It'll be a tough act to follow.
The glass roof effect, torque/acceleration and handling.
Dash ergonomics aren't as good as Honda, and in-dash CD player would be better than the changer in the glovebox
I really love my first Benz. It has a ton of power and great fuel efficiency. I absolutely love the sunroof; it feels like the whole world is open and you dont have to pay all the extra costs of a true convertible. I wish more of them came to the dealer with programable seats though. Leather is a must being that the cloth looks like it came straight from K mart. The key is fun and functional. My only big complaint is the stereo system. I used to drive a toyota echo, a super cheap car and the stereo system in there was ten times crisper and sweeter than this, and from what I hear the Bose is even worse.
FUN TO DRIVE! Heated seats and the panorama sunroof are a must!!!
Put a clock on the front display and put a couple extra bucks into the really crummy stereo!
Unbelievable!!! If you have never owned a Benz before, what a great place to start. A warning, however-- it is a drug from which you will never recover. Meaning-- you will never be able to go back! I LOVE THIS CAR!!!
Rather weak stereo, considering the quality of the rest of the car.
Very nice quality. Very good value for the 3 pointed star. Enging smooth and linear and fun to drive. Fit and finish like a 120K Mercedes! Very reliable. Shousld hold it's value nicely.
Quality,Quality,Trip computer. Enging with lots of torque
As, I read in one of the reviews on this page, I also came across the leaking fluid in my garage on the first day beacuse of the defective seal, now I think I took another appointment with the dealer to check the problem with some noice on the right side front wheel. I never expected like this from Mercedes, I will never ever buy a Mercedes again.
Safety features and Power.
I think Benz has to look into problem of oil seals.
This is my 3rd hatchback and I love it! My first two were a Mazda RX-7 and a Honda Civic, both of which presented consistent problems in the first 6 months and beyond. This Mercedes has been flawless in my first 7 months! The leather/moonroof/bose sound package and the sports package are bargains and well worth it. After test driving both the manual and automatic types, I chose the automatic because the power is more than I'll ever need. I'm actually getting 30 mpg on the highway! The smooth ride is a dream! The interior accommodates large & tall people well. It's also the only Mercedes small enough to fit into my tiny Victorian garage!
Small size, moonroof/leather/bose sound package and sports package. The aircon/heating/defroster are very effective and fast.
Install a sensor at rear of car to better determine distance of car behind you when backing into a parking space.
What a great car!!!!!!!!!
fit and finish
I'm not a big fan of long drives. Driving is a chore. Not any more. I just want to keep on driving. I pretty much hate arriving at my destination. I've driven lots of cars and I just can't believe how much better this car is over the Japanese competition. I can't imagine having more power. What is the use? The engine sound is wonderful. The fit and finish is fantastic everywhere. (look under the car!) I've recently been in a top-of-the-line VW Passat and it just does not compare. This is such a fun car to drive and drive and drive.
The weight, actually. You feel safe in this car. I love going over big bumps. The thump, thump is solid and lovely to listen to. The design. This car gets tons of looks, especially from guys driving minivans. The warranty.
Need cup holders in the back. If headrest is up it hits the roof when putting seat forward.
i have experienced no problems with the Vehicle for the first 5000 miles of ownership combines outstanding performance with great milage and plenty of room inside for a 6.5 footer weighing 240
performance, milage, comfort, auto shifter ability to change gears with a flick of the wrist
should have ordered bose sound system the factory installed regular system sucks i dont like cruse control methodology i get confused
I absolutely LOVE this car! It is so much fun to drive and its appearance catches the eye of nearly all who see it. Although small, which I like, it has a lot of room inside. Even tall guys have no problems. LOVE IT!
The way it drives - it is SO solid and stable. And, the way it looks! An eyecatcher!
The clock could be more visable. I would like it placed on the console rather than the computer screen in front of the driver.
We looked at lots of competitors before we went with the 320 2dr coupe and feel great about the decision. This is a great value. Quiet, smooth, powerful ride and above average interior. The 320 has a lot more pep than the 230.
Make electric seats standard. We broke the seatbelt holder in week one because the seat can fly backwards if done manually.
I have owned this car for almost 6 months and have placed 2500 miles on the odometer (can't drive many miles on O'ahu). Overall, the car has been fun to drive. It is small and compact for the small parking slots here in Hawaii, but large enough in the interior to comfortably fit myself at six foot tall. So far, only minor rattles and noises. A solidly built vehicle with great steering and braking but could use a little more low end torque for this heavy of a vehicle.
Panorama sunroof is a must! The Mercedes label on both the front and rear of the car. Very fast at high speeds.
Improve low end torque. Replace the horrible stock stereo! The sound in the stock system is worse than my 1974 Mustang. Wake up Mercedes, people do like music.
The car has been driven nearly 200 miles so far, and still have nearly 2/3 of a tank left. Ride is comfortable, controlled, quiet, but not distant from the driver. Performance is great. Looked at the BMW 3 Series Coupe, the Audi A4, Infiniti G35 Coupe. In all, the 230K Coupe was the best deal. Some fluff options found on the competition are not found on the Mercedes. Driving the C230K Coupe was all I needed to know the car was more solid than the Audi A4, less expensive than a BMW 3 Series Coupe, better built than the Infiniti G35 Coupe. Also, the Merc stands out from the rest. This is a TRUE Mercedes at an exceptional price point.
Bose Sound System, Quality of leather, Panorama Sunroof, Split rear seats, fit and finish, room for four, great engine in a small package.
Rear center armrest, power driver's seat, electric seatbelt presenters for the front seats, full-size spare!
I only had this car for 2 weeks so it's difficult for me to give an in-depth evaluation. This car is competitively priced with other vehicles in its class. Great value for a car wearing a badge that was once reserved for the wealthy few. I have had one problem so far. The gas gauge registered 1/2 full when I ran out of gas. The dealer said it's a known problem with the C-Class and they will repair it under warranty.
1.)Panorama Sunroof 2.)Dual Climate Control 3.)Traction Control 4.)Digital Speedometer Display 5.)Multiple Garage Opener
1.)Drivers Rearward Vision 2.)Could use a few more horses 3.)Premium Bose sound system sucks 4.)Options for the Mercedes which are standard on other makes 5.)Adjustable lumbar support for front seats 6.)Center armrest for backseat
I bought it new, it came loaded with every feature but NAV. One year later, it feels as solid, safe and fun tor drive as the first day out of the lot. Except for the BAS/ESP warning (which was a wiring glitch, fixed in 1Hr.) there has been no single item to complain about. There has been, however, plenty to rave about. You cannot do much better than this for 30K. My son lover his first set of wheels! I feel secure about him driving it. Make it RED!
Handling (better than my 330Ci)) braking, Steptronic, Bose Audio, Panorama roof, cargo space (takes a 2 bikes w/ seats down), cool wheels (Sport Pkg),29mpg if you watch it
Seats catch visor when flipped fwd.,odd tail light proportions, wish Xenons were standard, platic window distorts view.
What a blast, without blasting your bank account.
Safety & technology features, the perfect packaging
The Car doesnt move in drive mode during Snow. I chekced the dealer they want to me Place 50 lbs of weight on my back side of the car If your place if full snow avoid buying the car. The emergency road side assitance wont cover this issue
I love this car. The only thing I did to make it better was to install stiffer springs and swaybars. AMG swaybars actually. Directly from MBZ for only ~$200. Car drives like a sports car for real now.
Looks, interior, the panoramic sunroof, 8 air bags...solid contruction, storage capacity...I'm out of words!
Picked up my Citron Green C230 up 2 ½ weeks ago. Love it! Car is great, smooth, fun to drive, & looks sporty. Bi-xenon lights add a whole new look to the car. Panorama roof really makes the cabin open. The leather has a great feel, seats are firm yet comfy & the power seats add a touch of luxury. Aluminum trim contrasts well with the charcoal interior. C7 package is the best deal going w/ 17" wheels, larger exhaust tip, & short throw shifter. Base price is a gr8 buy, but options really add up fast. Before I knew it I paid $35k out the door. Tho it was a special order (an additional $1150) it was definitely worth the $$$ and wait!
1. Citron Green 2. C7 Package 3. Bi-Xenon lights 4. Panorama Roof
Rear end. i hate to say it but it just ugly. It looks as if there was no thought put into or maybe just forgotten. If anything the taillamps shoudl be changed to include clear turn signals found on other MB models.
The 6-speed manual is a really fun car to drive, great handling. A reasonably powerful car with good fuel economy and environmentally friendly with ultra low emission status. Legroom in the rear is suprisingly ample, but headroom is tight. Fortunately, the double sunroof eases up the claustrophobia.
Styling from the front view is really sexy. All the things that cost extra money such as leather seats, CD changer, alarm, Panorama roof, rain sensor wipers, evolution package.
The clear plastic in the rear makes it look cheap.
great car ! totally dependable and reliable ! sweet body and an awsome engine ...
I am in love with this car. It is my first Mercedes and won't be the last.
The navigation system is awesome, easy to use features. I also ordered the xenon headlamps which are excellent. The Bose system sounds great.
A smoother gearbox, it is a little jerky, along with a tighter clutch.
This is marketed as the "cheapest" MB available on the market, but despite its price, it is really fun to drive (6-speed manual) with excellent performance with fuel economy. The optional leather seats and sunroof sure adds up the cost, but it's still great price for a car that has the style and performance not far from the CLK320, and looks much more interesting than the ubiqutous BMW 3series. I must add that when I test drove the BMW330Coupe, it has excellent performance too, but my wife and kids hated the ride as front and back passengers, which made them nauseated, so I settled with the Mercedes in which they tolerated well as passengers.
The Kompressor engine, 6-speed manual gears, and panoramic sunroof
Is there a way to remove the clear plastic in the back without compromising visual fields?
Real fun to drive, Solid design, Excellent acceleration. Compared to the Acura RSX, the torque on the C230 crushes the Acura, hands down. Overall, a safe, and fun car to drive. Usually, safety and fun dont often go together but in this car, it just does.
power seats with memory, bose sound.
Cd player should be standard, Some of the '02 models have the ESP/BAS problem due to a faulty harness.
My first Mercedes. So far so good. The car is very quiet. It drives like an improved version of my '99 Passat. Considered an Acura RSX, but for a few dollars extra, you get a lot more car.
Fuel economy; ESP; 17" wheels; panaroma sunroof; warranty; scheduled maintenance included in the purchase price; roadside assistance; multifunction steering wheel
Don't like the air recirculation mode turning off after 30 minutes. The texture of the cloth upholstery is a bit rough. Don't like having a space saver spare tire.
Caveat: I have only owned my C230 for 6 weeks, but no defects discovered so far. This car, with 6-speed M/T and the C5 and C7 packages including 17-inch performance tires, leather, and Bose stereo, is a blast to drive. Great acceleration in 3rd and 4th gear, comfortable cruising in 6th, superb handling characteristics. Blew an Audi TT off the line the other day - felt good considering the Audi costs at least $6-10K more. Only complaint - ABS not as effective as my previous car (Saab 9-3), and, despite ESP and traction control, doesn't handle real well on snowy or icy roads. Overall rating an 8.75.
Fun-to-drive factor, Bose stereo, dealer responsiveness and professionalism.
ABS and traction control.
A car that will run 152 mph, gets 33 mpg highway, great looks, and a Mercedes to boot. Look no further than the C230. One drive and my wife and I were hooked. Driving a big SUV took the fun out of driving. This car is a blast.
The handling, looks, and the power.
Improve visibility under the rear spoiler.
Warning this is a bad car(lemon).I dont have enough room to list all the engine problems. My car would stallout when I would try to pass someone. It stalled out when I was accelerating from a complete stop.It stallout in the middle of a intersection. It repeatedly shutoff after I would refuel it.It had to be towed to the dealership(Rahal) after I couldn't (with the help of others)get it to start after refueling. In the first six months of ownership it had 16 problems .So I got a lawer.Just put it this way if you wont to know everything email me.
Customer service need to improve after the vehicle is purchased.Reliablity
Since the day I have taken delivery, I have had problems with the car dropping out of cruise control. There is a problem with either the Brake Assist System or the Electronic Stability Program or both. I am getting ready to take the car to the dealer for the 4th time. I don't blame the dealer - think I just got a bad car off the assembly line. Absent this problem, I think it is a great car. I love driving it.
Ride, handling, acceleration, sun roof, exterior design.
Rear visibility could be better.
I don't have many miles on the car yet, but so far I'm impressed by the quiteness, solid feel of the ride and controls, and the maneuverability provided by rack and pinion steering with rear wheel drive. I've driven the larger S Class Mercedes' and this C230 gives you the same substantial feel of quality. I suggest you get the leather interior because the cloth interior design cheapens it's appearance (looks like the cloth in a Tercel or Neon. UGHHH!). To us, it didn't matter if the badge said Mercedes or Daewoo, we realized it was well-built, good- looking, functional car that was also enjoyable to drive. A lot of car for the price.
The 5-speed automatic transmission (don't even think about the 6-speed manual transmission). The all-glass panoramic roof. The utility of the huge amount of cargo space of the hatchback design.
Maybe an optional 6-cylinder engine (but it might negatively effect handling). Better location of the power window switches. Easier-to-reach seat belts. Not much else to suggest, this was a well-thoughtout car.
Looked for a car for a long time before settling in on this one. Very good value for the money. Great mix of performance, engineering features, safety, and style.
All the thoughtful engineering touches like the auto winshield washers, auto- dimming rear and sid sid mirror, even simple logical way cruise control works. Definately take a test drive and check it out if in market for this type of automobile.
add dimming feature to passenger-side mirror
I have 15K on it now and have enjoyed it. However, since my first service at 10K I have now: 1. Used a quart of oil 2. The rear sunshade had to be replaced 3. A switch on the steering wheel went bad 4. developed some creaks. I like drivng the car and the looks, I just hope it holds up.
I like the performance in the mid range, it doesn't have the low rpm "grunt" I would prefer. It has great gas milage and the sunroof is excellent. The interior is comfortable and well laid out. The rear seats are seldom used and when folded give ample space.
Quality control! A v6 would be nice if they could keep the cost down. An in-dash CD player is a must.
It was a nice car when I bought it, but now it seems like junk. Things are starting to break. My computer goes crazy sometimes and the dealerships excuse is, "The Technology is too new for them to have fixed all the glitches." If that wasent bad enough , I get between 8 and 12 mpg.
The sun roof, oversized windows, tiptronic, steering wheel controls
Replace the sportseats, more legroom in the back.
Have had it for eight months now and simply love my C230. Solid road performance; accelerates, handles, responds. Smooth ride. Sunroof makes it feel like a convertible. Controls easily accessible. Had problems with the sound system (CD and antenne stopped working) but the MB dealer fixed both in no time, hassle free.
exterior design, controls on steering wheel, panorama sunroof, Bose system, wheel package, the "ride" -- everything!
allow driver option to open rear windows, increase volume control (with sunroof open the maximum is too low)
Starting about 20 min after buying this car I started to have serious problems. 1)Dead battery, jumped start. 2)Auto- transmission stuck in 2nd, car towed and computer reprogrammed. 3)Rough braking, all discs/pads replaced. 4) Pulling right, car was re-aligned. 5) Small crack in rear plastic window, car needed new window and body panel which needed re-painting. The car have 600 miles, + been for about 2 weeks out for repairs. The dealer refuses to take it back. I am being forced to try the lemon law.
My co-workers, neighbors, and family horrible opinion and the Lemon Law!
Give me my money back!
Bought vehicle for around town transportation for one person. Is great for this. Have taken it cross country. Performed very well. Suprisingly solid, quiet and smooth at highway speeds.Have had no repairs. Has good acceleration and gets wonderful gas mileage i.e. 29 MPG @ 80 MPH.
Acceleration and handling.
Poor quality radio/tape deck. Not up to the standard of the rest of the car. Do not like using premium gas.
