Well, as surprising as it sounds, these trouble codes don't actually tell you what's wrong--they indicate where to start looking, but your car's computer cannot single out defective components--it only indicates systems or circuits that might be under distress. I'm not even sure that the codes were read correctly, but if they were, it might make sense that a bad sensor could light up an engine light. The only way bad ... Read More
my Check engine light is on solid yellow. Last Thursday12/1 I put gas in my car(premium). Friday 12/2 my light came on. In Oct I had a service B done to my car no problems. Sunday 12/4 I went to autozone to get a diagnostic. they came back with 1. thermostat defective or 2. sensor defective or 3. coolant level is low. I checked coolant level that's ok. I can only tell you what I have read in many car mags, the Jags are notorious for electrical problems, even new ones. I just bought a 2008 C300 and I just love it. So in my opinion, go for the Benz. Good luck.
I am on the fence about buying one of these two automobiles. Both are selling for about the same price ($10K) and have about the same amount of milage (65K). I'm leaning towards the Benz because it is a one-owner car (vs 3 owners for Jag), but like the bigger engine on the Jag and the AWD + the sunroof. Any advice on which way I should go, or should I ... A friend has the same basic problem with the Coolant Indicator - visit shop indication. Not sure about the fan I Will have to check with him. Any info on what the fix would be? Thanks Phil
Coolant service indicator states to visit shop. The Radiator fan is rotating twice as fast and loud. Coolant level is normal and clean. I have also cleaned all the wire connections and fan will not stop. Does anyone know how to reset the coolant sensor indicator, so that the fan will turn on only when needed? NOTE: The temperature on the car engine is normal at all times.
My engine coolant light is on and my coolant is full and clean. The fan in the engine area began running high when that sensor came on. Does anyone know or have an idea as to what we should check to correct this fan from running high constantly. The fan runs high all the time the vehicle is on.
I obviously have a leak somewhere because I keep vacuuming out the area behind my passenger seat. We're due for a lot of rain, so if someone has a suggestions on how/where to check and see if I have a clog or leak, that would be great! 2002 Mercedes C240 gracias!
Some advice for you after having bought 3 mercedes: -Do not buy the earlier year mercedes-the reliability of the more recent years seems to have improved per Consumer Reports -Consider finding a new 2007 C230 if you absolutely must have a mercedes. There are many dealers who have them sitting in the back lots. I have to admit that I have driven the C230 and I am not impressed with the ... Read More
I've come to the conclusion that the best car for the OP is actually none of the above. He wants something affordable and sporty and luxury, that's also reliable and gets good gas mileage. Unfortunately, they stopped making this car 2-3 years ago, but that's fine, because used like-new examples run about $20K. Get a Mercedes C230K Sedan with manual. I'd buy a BMW or Audi diesel in a heartbeat. I've driven them in Europe and and entirely impressed, especially in their abilities to accelerate from say 20 mph to speeds of well over 100 mph. Case in point, of the three closest gas ... Read More
My 2002 230 K is having an unusual problem. Agreed. This forum is supposed to be about things that most of us enjoy as a passtime, or certainly a drivetime. Hello All. I have read your posts regarding dead batteries on C-Class Mercedes. I have a 2002 C320. You could always go with a roadster, you know... :P The sad fast is that anything FWD will feel sluggish and dead compared to a RWD setup, because the steering is by definition going to have torque and weight on it bogging it down. >>My Lexus has been completely, totally >>flawless...but Lexus cars are SOOO dull...so >>I'm looking for something new I drive a beautiful Obsidian Black C320 2001, built in April 2001 and delivered June 01, 2001. It is now at 8700 miles. I originally was going for the CLK but it sat too deep for me, and the car had some blind spots with which I was not happy. I love my car ... Read More
I've been frantically investigating getting a new car (to replace my Lexus RX300). Been looking at: MB C320 MB CLK 320 (2003) BMW 330 Infiniti G35 amongst others... I'm heavily leaning toward one of the mercedes. But reading the boards on the C-class cars has mee getting a bit paranoid. How bad has the reliability been for these cars (at least as far as it can be extrapolated to the 2002/2003s)? ... Read More
To silverfox6-sounds like a good deal. Just a comment on the pricing on new Mercedes: When I went to buy my c320 a month ago and I was bargaining with the dealer, he kept saying that due to the new free maintenence, etc, the markup is only 6%. Another one told me 8%. One, if not both, are probably bending the truth. Personally, I think a straight 8-10% off the MSRP, ... Read More
I just traded my 2002 Honda Accord EX-V6 on a used 2001 C320 with 12,000 miles, 38 months left on warranty. I got rid of the Honda because of atrocious wind and road noise and engine hesistation. There was no way the wind noise could be fixed as the car probably was built to improper tolerances, bad window seals, ect. The Mercedes is like driving in a cocoon. Never knew a ... Read More
You may want to consider the 2002 c240 for the following reasons: 1. You will have a new car with a full warranty for 4yrs/50,000 miles. You are at least guaranteed a few years without the visit to the local Mercedes garage, which can get really costly. 2. All maintenence, including breaks, are covered for that period of time. 3. The safety features on the c240 are more up to date. 4. ... Read More
Is anyone having the same trouble I am. I have had the booster replaced and was told this is the best they can do. I loose radio reception from time to time a certain stations. I was told by my dealer and Mercedes that they couldn't do anything. All my other cars have great reception in all the areas that I loose it with this 1 mth old car
I haven't heard anything about the PowerTrip for 2002, but AMG is having a gulp(!), $850.00 event. My Benz loyaly is going to be truly tested..... M
Seat Memories: I contacted MB USA via email after reading the previous posts about seat memory loss and drift. I clipped out the technical service bulletin and they instructed me to make an appointment with my dealer and tell the dealer to contact the area service technician. Gregg at Brandywine Mercedes in West Chester Pennsylvania called yesterday and told Cheryl someting about ordering a "#1" replacement key. This is the fourth ... Read More

We picked up our C 230 K on last Wednesday - what a superb car! It's like a cathedral inside, such is the quiet and solidity at speed. The torque is unbelievably strong, far better than the C 240s we drove (I still like the C 240, don't get me wrong). Of course, the 2.3 L C 230 develops 30 more lbs-ft 2000 rpm sooner than the C 240, which explains ... Read More
The new 1.8L engines will be coming here this year, first in the 2003 C 230 K model. I wish they would offer these "M271" engines in the C sedan too, as the low-tech 3-valve 2.6 L V-6 is a bit of a dog (no power, peaky torque, a bit rough running due the the 90 degree bank spacing and with quite poor fuel economy). Maybe the updated version of the ... Read More
I took delivery of a C320 back in Nov 2001. Thus far after 8000 miles...no problems at all. After reading about all the problems others are having, I just wanted others to know that I love this car. Traded in an 2000 Acura TL Nav for this benz and no regrets on my end. check out my car photo gallery if you want. http://members.bellatlantic.net/~rfcdmd/merc/FrameSet.htm
pexpl, I really wish I could enjoy our brand new C320 like you do. My wife and I purchased our brand new 2002 C320 in late January 2002. Everything was great until March when the engine suddenly died while we were driving on the freeway. At the time, the car only had about 1400 miles. The car was in the dealer for 5 days. A faulty fuel pump was found and ... Read More
I disagree with the poster who says the 900 and the 9-3 are the same car and unreliable. I have a 9-3. Best car I ever owned. And the UK Consumers Association ranked the two-year old 9-3 (1999) most reliable tied with three others, none of which was a Mercedes. http://news.bbc.co.uk/hi/english/uk/newsid_1470000/1470045.stm The people who have compared the two in the Saabnet board consider the Merc dull. I personally think that with a few tweaks the C320 could also sit at the top of this group. It's still more of a entry-level luxury sedan than Mercedes would lead you to believe. The C320 "Sport" needs to have it's suspension retuned to accept 17 inch tires without a harsh ride. MB also needs to stop forcing metal trim and black leather on everyone that wants the sport package. The ... Read More
http://www.nytimes.com/2002/02/24/automobiles/24AUTO.html "For years, Mercedes has cut costs in an effort to hold the line on prices. Materials that look and feel relatively cheap have been showing up even in expensive models like the S-Class sedan, but have been especially notable in the M-Class sport utility. At the same time, the revered Mercedes brand has been dropping in quality and durability rankings. One such survey by TUV, a German auto-inspection and research ... Read More
