I've had 6 different Mercedes cars including new, this is my first "S" Class. I've been chasing a phantom ASR issue with this car since day one. Very high service costs, even at an independent and brutally bad gas mileage (<12) make this car better suited for the demo derby.
Bought it used from a dealer with 35,000 miles. I've been happy with the thing since we started. Keep V rated tires on it for intended performance. Now it cost about $2,000/yr in maintenance, but that's cheaper than a new one. The power is great and handling supurb.
The power and mileage are great for that vintage car. The ride and handling equally good. Comfort and trunk size great for long trips.
The boss must ride the brakes. We usually only get about 15,000 miles on a front brake job, and they chatter.
