First the cons; small for those over 6', fuel economy is lacking for a small v6, DS should come standard with a limited slip and tow package, should have 6spd manual (mileage and towing would benefit), horrible Goodyear Wrangler GT/S's that come on it, a more Mazda/less Ford interior would be nice, seats are too firm for long trips(pad fixes this) . Now PROS; RELIABILITY, RELIABILITY, RELIABILITY, did I mention it's been reliable? Only issue in 78,xxx + was a sensor @ 5k that was replaced under warranty with no qualms. Paint still looks new, front brakes lasted for 50k, clutch is still great, engine still peppy (although more power would be great). Great deal considering cost vs other ops.
Reliability, ease of maint. (previous owners of Toyota/Hondas will appreciate), exterior durability, Just a great truck. Doesn't apologize for being a truck--no girly styling or compromise in functionality.
Power, fuel economy, 6 spd manual, limited slip and tow standard, bit more leg room in standard cab.
This is the fourth Mazda PU I have
owned, starting with a '89 model. I was
originally interested in economy and
utility of a small pick-up and Mazda's
extended warranty(then, 50,000 miles)
was the deciding feature for me. The
first two('89 & '95) were driven over
80000 miles, the last one('99), over
100,000 with no problems. My '03 is very
sporty and came with a 100,000 mile
warranty, which I plan to use to the
fullest. Economy ranges from 23 to 26 mpg.
Sporty styling, reasonable gas milage,
and confort(on smooth roads!!) are
favorite features for me.
The only improvements I can think of are
a little more power and little smoother
ride on rougher roads.
You can get some really good deals on
this truck... I got Auto with AC.
It's got ton's of room way more then a
toyota. I've had this truck for over
5K miles and no problems except the
tires it came with were crap had them
road balanced and basically
unbalanceable. Mazda service SUCKS...
I don't think I'll ever buy another
Mazda... But, for the price, and
seeing how I'll probably get a new one
in 3-5 years. I think it will hold
it's value for a long time to come.
Truck is roomy. Comfortable and
handles well. Comes with AC/Fog
w/OD -ABS and Antitheft system
standard. Not bad for a 16K truck.
Most cars arn't that equiped at that
Engiene has a wierd vibration at idle.
Gas Millage isn't that great. Paint
scrathes very easy. NOT MADE BY MAZDA
anymore. It's a FORD Product.. :(
Mazda service is the worst. They will
be quick to point what is and what is
not coverd in the warranty.
