I had this problem last week and it is resolved after cleaning the carbon built-up in the Idle air control valve. Before the valve had carbon deposit around the spring and was not moving well. Soaked with cleaner for 5 minutes and removed with plastic knife. After disconnecting the battery and connecting again the check Engine light gone. check it before going for expensive alternatives. Thanks
Yes, the problem was the rear catalytic converter. Good luck with yours.
Did you find an answer to your problem? I am having this same problem but it only occurs in cold (32 or below weather). Any help is appreciated!
I've been a Ford person for decades, and subsequently bought a Mazda Tribute (Escape platform in a different wardrobe.) It has run well for 9 years, until this morning when the transmission refused to engage in any gear. The Overdrive light flashed intermittently just prior to the transmission disengaging. Although they haven't opened it up yet, the transmission repair person told me that the transfer case is often the culprit with ... Read More
I also have a 2005 Mazda Tribute with a manual transmission. I've had this Tribute since Feb 2005, and am 5 payments away from paying it off. It was brand new with 32 miles on it when I bought it. I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute with a Fuel tank filler door that won't open. Not sure what happened, it was working fine last time I used it. Today, I went to fill up and the lever at the base of the drivers seat would no longer open the door. Any advice?
I also have a 2005 Tribute 3.0 V6 which recently developed a vibration when at cruise speed (1500-2000RPM). If I accellerate, the vibration disappears. But overall, it's not practicle to drive. I had my mechanic look at it and he said one ignition coil was bad (in front) which he replaced but also suspected the Engine Control Module (computer) was bad. I took it to the Mazda dealer and they said ... Read More
I'm looking at buying a 2005 Mazda Tribute with 120k miles on it. It had a new Engine and Transmission put in it recently. Anything I should pay attention to? From what I'm seeing, it looks like it should not be surprising that a new engine/transmission was put in it. However, what things should I be aware ... Read More
I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute and it was running fine one day and then the next it was running really badly and wouldn't go over 40 mph. I think once your transmission problem is fixed properly (sounds like it is) the gas milege factor is not typically a primary motivator for getting different wheels. If you get 18 - 24 mpg city / highway for the 3.0 six, that is in the range of normal in my opinion. Unless you are looking for an excuse to get something else, I'd say do the math first. 2005 Mazda Tribute, starts good in the morning, after driving the car will not start. The key turns over but absolutely nothing happens. All guages and radio etc work but will not start. My cruise control worked great. I had my power brake booster replaced last year, and my cruise control stopped working. I didn't notice it until I needed the cruise control about 2 weeks later. I purchased a brand new 2005 Mazda Tribute and have had significant trouble with the gas pedal sticking. I've had the entire throttle assembly replaced TWICE, but they say it's not a defect. My wife and I just picked up her 05 V6 Tribute from the dealer tonight for this exact problem, but luckily it was repaired under warranty (43K miles). I'd take a second thought about Honda automatic transmissions. They are, by far, the worst in the industry. If you're interested do a search for "transmission problems" on the following Honda's: 99-05 Odyssey, 03-07 Accord, 99-04 Acura TL. Honda made a huge impact on the US car market for at least 2 decades. I'm guessing that the people in charge of that impact have now retired.
I also own a Tribute it is a '02, my transmission lasted me 75K miles, and when I called the dealer for an estimate to rebuild it, their response was that Mazda does not recommend to rebuild a faulty transmission and that I should get a brand new one instead, I laughed and told the guy that Mazda had screwed me once when they sold me the car and that they ... I have had the throttle cable problem in my 2002. It was not related to braking. heres what you should do..... buy the car with mazda financing and take the full rebates. as soon as you get your payment book, call mazda for the payoff. refinance at whatever bank or credit union offers you the best rate, and pay off the original loan. there will be no penalty for early payment of the original simple interest loan. it will have cost you about a months worth of ... One more thing, I told the finance clerk that my credit union was offering 3.9% and if they could not get close, then I would not finance through Mazda. So, I think that 7-8% talk is not right since I got 5.9% plus all the incentives. Like I mentioned, you should still be better off taking the $1K rebate at a higher interest rate and then refinancing later at a ... Read More
Yes. I purchased my 05 Tribute in November 04 and received $4K in rebates (including the $1K rebate from Mazda Credit. I have really good credit and got 5.9%. Here is the trick, take the finance rebate and then simply refinance later (I believe that you have to make three payments (3 months) to Mazda before you can refinance through another lender). I looked at refinancing, but I had ... Read More
Hi, Can anyone clear up the current Mazda Tribute incentives for me? Currently there is 2500 dollars back to customer and 1000 more to customer if they finance through Mazda at the current rate, which I have been told is grossly inflated at 7-8.5% way above the majority of financial institutes 4-5%. I have also found on this web site a 500 rebate "to dealer" as well. There is also 0% ... Read More

The 2005 Escape is already out - I just saw an XLS model on Saturday while getting service at the dealer. I went to the Mazda dealer who said he had received some 2005 Tributes, and when I arrived no one could find them. They even drove me to an auxiliary lot and they weren't there. Their inventory data showed them as having arrived, but they could not find them - ... Read More
Had the identical problem. It began after Mazda repaired my liftgate latch as part of a recall. The rattle was caused by a loose part inside the liftgate latch. They were able to repair it easily, however, when they finished, the rattle was gone, but the glass wouldn't lock on the liftgate. Brought it back again for another easy fix. Now everything is fine. Sounds like you may be having the ... Read More
Does anyone have a good picture or other representation of the color Mazda calls "violet gray"? I am interested because Mazda says this will be a new color for the Mazda6. The only references I can find to this color are for the Tribute. I found a few posts on here from 2005 that refer to that color and this from Mazda of Puerto Rico, which shows one in that color, ... You dealer is filling you full of garbage. Mazda warranty is 4 years 50,000 miles. Some people bought Mazda Tribute over Escape just because the warranty is a little longer. Get back into that dealer and read him the riot act!
My 2005 Tribute 6cyl is one year old with 20,000 miles. I just started hearing a rattle at the rear of the vehicle in the cargo area. I checked out the spare tire and any other area that might have a loose bolt and found nothing. As soon as I drive down the road, I hear the rattle and loose nuts and bolts hitting one another. Has anyone else out there ... Read More
