I have a 2004 Mazda Tribute that is the beige/grey color. After the first year or so the paint began peeling from the roof of the car in large pieces. Mazda repainted the roof for free at the time however the paint is now peeling from the hood, the roof just above the doors and in the crease of the door just behind the window. Mazda has said that they will ... Read More

Bought 2004 Tribute new now with 51k miles on it. Pretty much drama free for the first five years except a starter replacement and real wiper motor (did both under warranty). This year, engine lights on twice ( cylinder misfire). Spend $1200 to replace all six Ignition coil. Airbag light on once, $600 to fix a connection issue (they have to take out the seat). Steering issue, $250. and a few ... Read More
I have a 2003 Mazda Tribute (bought new in 2004) with 59,635 miles on it. The miles are at least 80% highway miles. I'm 64 years old and I don't abuse this vehicle. I'm on my third transmission. The first failed with 18,742 miles on it. Polar Mazda (White Bear Lake, Minnesota) replaced that transmission with a rebuilt one. The second transmission failed 7-19-09 with 59,635 miles on it. This isn't steve, but thanks for the offer, I live in the Akron, OH area. And he has some auto-tech background from senior year of high school vocational school. At least, he'll be ... Read More
I looked there, and got the list for my Tribute. Why do they publish that utter nonsense about a $30 labor charge for plug change?I specifically put in that I had a V6 tribute, 4WD. a reputable local non-dealer repair shop quotes $250-$260 for the plug change. Given his expanation about removing the intake, I don't know if it's reasonable or not. I haven't called Mazda, they can't possibly be cheaper. ... Read More

I have a 2004 Mazda Tribute with 120,000 miles. Just replaced the serpentine belt and wanted to change the water pump belt. The Haynes Manual said to release the tension pully but I don't see one. The transmission on our 2004 Tribute just failed at slightly over 70,000 miles--days after being serviced--$4,000 to replace it, so we elected to get a new vehicle (NOT a Mazda or a Ford). Sadly, we had just been talking about how the car had never needed a major repair. Bottom line: this should NOT happen. We are very upset about it!
This is rather low kms for a transmission to fail. You say that gears 4 and 5 were shot. Is this a manual transmission? Automatics only had a 4 speed.
Wow, I am just in awe. On Monday, our 2004 Mazda Tribute (87,000 km) konked out. My husband was driving on Highway 1 to Calgary, cruising at 120 km/hr. He pressed on the gas a little, heard a bang, the car slowed down. It picked back up and when he got to the first traffic light, he pressed on the gas - nothing. The Tribute was done. AMA (thankfully!) came and ... Read More

The torque converter went bad on mine at 45,000 miles. At 45 mph the car would shake. Mazda put in a new transmission. They busted an axle while doing it, so it went back to be fixed. A few weeks later transmission fluid started coming out. I was told the torque converter seal needed to be replaced. I just picked the car up again....today. Of couse they busted the other axle ... I purchased a new 2 wheel drive 2005 Tribute 9 months ago. It now has about 14,000 km. An intermittent problem began 2 weeks ago. During braking to a stop (city driving, no ice or rough pavement), there is sudden resistance of the brake pedal combined with the sound of some sort of pump or fan motor from the rear of the car PLUS a distinct acceleration forward; ie it feels ... This is my first time here and I came to this site to try to find answers that my dealer seems unable to. My 2003 Tribute began having intermittent starting problems a year ago. Hi, I'm no expert, but i just bought my first compact SUV 2 days ago...2004 Mazda Tribute. Of the compact SUVs I looked at (CR-V, Escape, FOrester, RAV4) it seemed the most roomy passenger-wise, although the inside spare raises the back a bit for cargo. The V6 gives it good pep but mileage is less because of it. Sounds to me like you might be a great candidate for the Forester...kind ... Read More
I noticed right after buying my 2004 Tribute that there was an aftershock after going over bumps. This caused the ride to be bouncy and harsh. This was a really annoying problem which I did not want to have with my new Mazda. What I finally realized was that the rather heavy exhaust system was hung at just a few points by single rubber hangers. When I bounced the tail pipe, ... Read More
I just purchased the base model 2004 Mazda Tribute for our family. We were replacing a 1995 Ford Ranger truck and needed more room, but a vehicle that was economical. However, he HATES that it doesn't have a center console tall enough for him to put his arm ... Read More
I have a 2004 Mazda Tribute ES with about 42000 miles on it. I am experiencing really loud tire noise and I am looking for recommendations for new tires. Also, I have been told that my rear shocks are leaking. Has anyone else had problems with the rear shocks and if so, where did you get replacement parts?
I am having a similar noise from my 2005 Tribute. My vehicle was purchased in September 2004, and the noise started about a month later. It would only happen after the brakes were heated up, and only at slow speeds/coasting. My dealership has looked at the vehicle 5 times for this issue, and they have replaced all four rotors, relined the brakes, flushed the brakes, replaced the brake pads, adjusted the ... Read More
It is hard to say how the rebates will shake out in April. In Ohio, even with these rebates, many Tributes are sitting on the lots. They do not seem to be moving and I would not be surprised to see these rebates extended. I checked your zip code on the Mazda site, I only see 4K in customer rebate? The 2004 MPV is 5K.
I'm having very similar problems with my 2001 Mazda Tribute. Last May the transmission had to be replaced at 40,000 miles. Since then, I've had an intermittent problem where the car has difficulty starting, the key locks in the accessory position, and frequently when I put the car in reverse, it just sits there and does nothing! It took 3 trips to the service department before they could recreate the problem. ... Read More

Just so I understand, are you stating that you put 50K miles on your vehicle in 2 years? Or did you buy it used? There were not 33 recalls for Ford/Mazda Escape/Tribute. Fact is, every car that ... Read More

According to http://www.tdn.com/articles/2004/04/25/biz/news02.txt, there may be a hybrid in 2007. Hi Everyone, The caption data on the 2005 Mazda Tribute incorrectly portrays the 2004 vehicle and interior components as the 2005 model. Edmunds is aware of this error and is making the necessary changes for the next website refresh. This sometimes happens when manufacturers create ... Read More
