Ford and Mazda should be very well aware at this point that these "new" F/awd systems are putting too much stress on the drivetrain, rear clutch/diff'l/PTO/transaxle/torque converter. Pull the F/awd clutch fuse except for times of need, TRUE times of need (KNOWN slippery roadbed), and the drive train life will be indefinite.

The 2003 Mazda Tribute was painted in either Ford's Kansas City or Ohio Assembly Plant. Plenty of documentation exist on the internet (including factory data) that this year's model was released to the market below the automaker's required factory paint thickness specifications. Do a fast internet search for Ford Factory Paint Defects. Factory paint defects were sold to the consumer.

I have an Escape whic I purchased pre-owned two weeks ago. I started to see rust developing on the paint right under the rear gate window and rear left window. For a three year car i found it quite unbeleivable. I am suspecting a paint problem. Please let me know if anyone experienced the same and how manufacturer or dealer responded. Thanks

I drive a 2004 Mazda, Tribute. It has approx. 6700 miles on it. I bought it new last October 28, 2003. I recently brought my car back to the dealership where purchased because the Idle was fluctuating (extremely) upon 1st start-up of the day (when the car is cold) and the V-Belt was making chatter/noise sounding like tapping or pinging. They replaced the IAC valve after having my car for 3 ... Read More

When I applied both feet to brake the tribute, the AWD engaged and I had to shift into neutral to control the vehicle. In neutral the engine continued to rev up. However, I could not get the dealer to give me a reasonable trade-in allowance for my car. I wound up buying a 2003 Jeep Liberty. Hard to believe that there could be a $3,700 difference between to dealers. Oh well, Mazda's loss is Jeep's gain. Good luck to all posters here.

My problem is trying to get a reasonable trade in allowance for a 2002 Buick Regal LS. A jeep dealer offered $12,800 towards a 2003 Liberty, which I could buy for invioice cost of $21,600 and get a $1,000 rebate to boot. My first pass at the Mazda ... Read More

I need some help here. I am a loyal Honda owner. I currently have a 2000 2WD Honda CRV LX. I have not been happy with my 2000 CRV mostly due to it's lack of get up and go (not sure what the technical term would be for that, power?). I read that the 2003 CRV is rated much better than the 2000 I currently own. I was interested in the ... Read More

onthehunt: According to C&D and the Ford corporate website, the 2004 Escape will be available with the hybrid drivetrain. As for metallic paint flaking in the sun, I think that was more a problem ten years ago. GM had huge problems with their metallic paints in the early 90's. In fact, they were forced to repaint thousands of cars (especially blue and silver Blazers). My '94 Mazda MX-6 (ruby red metallic) ... Read More
