DO NOT BUY THIS CAR!!!! The engine on the 2004 through 2006 RX8 WILL burn up!! It's only a matter of time. Unfortunately, mine imploded at 115,000 miles (after the 100,000 warranty limit) and serviced at the dealership had ALL my records and drove the car with care. Mazda would NOT honor 4206-F titled "Engine Lack of Power" warranty issued October 24, 2008. I complained several times that the car "lost ... Read More
Hey Trispec - good to see a post again from a fellow Bostonian. My 2004 MT GT is still zooming along wonderfully (36K now) except for one setback (which of course happened on a parkway just outside NYC so I was nowhere near home) The heat shield over the catalytic converter corroded off and started hanging by the wires leading to the O2 sensor bouncing along under the car. Well, I ... Read More
Just a note: My 2005 RX-8 has always burned very, very litte oil--like one quart every 3000 miles--and I was understandably concerned. I knew it was supposed to burn more (by popular report), so had it checked. One dealer in Memphis checked it and prounounced the car "fine", but three weeks ago as I was driving to work (75 minute drive) it gained a dead-spot. I gave more gas--nothing--gave even more ... If you haven't heard, ALL 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008 RX-8s now have a 8 year/100,000 mile warranty on the Rotary Engine (housing and core), whether bought new or used, or in the U.S. of Canada. Mazda steps up to the plate and shows customer support once again. If you paid for past repairs that PREVIOUSLY out of warranty, you will be reimbursed for covered claims. http://www.leftlanenews.com/mazda-to-extend-warranty-on-rx-8-engines.html Kudos, Mazda! :D ... I own a used 2004 mazda rx-8. It has 63000 miles on it. Fairly new. Anyway, I purchased this car in 2005 and for a couple of months it was driving good and then problems started happening. The worst was in 2006. My car caught on FIRE! I was driving and all of a sudden my car died and when I turned on my car, the check engine light was on.When I ... Read More
Thanks for the reply, pathstar ;) In that case, why doesn't everyone just use 5W30 until the point where the car needs to be taken in? Shoot, perhaps if we all used 5W30 we wouldn't NEED to take it in :) Anyway, it doesn't look like I'll be getting the RX-8 I was spying. The dealer wants over 30k for it. A 2006! Ok, it is a Shinka package but that ... Read More
msrx8, I know this is a reply to a rather old post, but the issue is about to become current for me. I will be picking up a 2006 RX8 Special Edition (new - 88km on the odometer)tomorrow. Mazda Canada has a promotion on where they are throwing in a floating spoiler, a set of Mazdaspeed wheels and a Mazdaspeed cool air intake with every new RX8. These items won't be ... Read More
I am looking at trading in my 2006 Mazda 3SGT and want to get a 06 RX-8 shinka with a sticker price of $33280 the price i was quoted is $27,287 which includes rebates but not ttl. is this a good deal
Murfbear, I hope you will not be mad about the mileage, might not be any better than your Cherokee, but will be quite a bit more fun to drive. I have the 06 Shinka in gray. I love the whole Shinka package, plus it makes the vehicle a little more unique. I think they look pretty nice with the 18" wheels, & it drives/handles like a dream. Just plan on a ... Read More
I lurked the lots for two years...drooling, fingers itching...sad, really. I owned a Miata for several years, and put 317,000 miles on her without any problems (regular maintence). So I bought a 2005 at the end of January, 2006, to be exact: Titanium grey with GT package All the goodies--except strikes--couldn't justify the cost vs. desire. Started with a sticker price of $32,165, subtracted downpayment of $5000, husband's job knocked off ... Read More

I have a 2006 rx8 loaded that came with the keyless entry system and the alarm shock senser upgrade. It works fine with mine, the only thing I can say about it is that it is a bit sensitive when a big truck drives by and sets it off. other that that works as it should. My rx8 is only 6 weeks old and it has a lot of rattles and ... Read More
Here's the information that you're looking for, ashsproperty. Mazda Credit's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 24 month lease of a 2006 Mazda RX-8 with an automatic transmission and 15,000 miles per year are .00172 and 55%, respectively. The 2006 Consumer Reports annual car issue, which came out in April, reported that the RX-8's reliability has improved to the point where they can recommend the car to prospective buyers. I bought a new RX-8 6-speed in June 2005. I now have almost 9000 miles on it, and except for an aftermarket Lojack-type system that the dealer talked me into (and caused the battery to go dead 5 times in ... Read More
Hi mgbaumann. You are right that you the cost of your remaining payments and your excess mileage charge that you would have to pay if you continued driving it are about the same. However, you are not taking the fact that you are going to have to pay for those miles anyhow into account. If you don't put them on your old car, you will have to pay a higher monthly ... Read More

I am an owner of a 2006 Mazda RX-8 Shinka 6-Speed with the "Smart Key" I have been trying to find a way to carry the larger than credit card size smart key other than just in my pants or shirt pocket. I had a quick question, I am not sure if this is the right place to post it, so I apologize if this is the wrong place. I have a RX8 lease that is coming up next month, and my questions were: If my RX8 needs new tires will Mazda charge me for them. Also, the same goes for the brakes. Thanks K
Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I have to say that I could not be happier with Customer Relations at Mazda. I just purchased a 2006 Phantom Blue RX-8 AT w/ GT package. One word - Zaino. Best thing you can do for preserving your paint and leather. As for airfrance777, the tires are "summer performance tires". I believe the RX-8 pre-2006 AT is derived from the Mazda mini-van and if so it should handle the extra torque (torque is the only thing you really have to worry about - the extra HP will heat up the transmission more but you can deal with that with a transmission cooler). The 7500 RPM limit is due to the torque converter - it will fail if operated above that for ... Read More
Hi, and thanks for the responses to my previous post re the 0-60 of the AT 2006. Thanks for replying to my remote start question. Can you be more clear? Was your Mazda genuine remote start system added by you, the dealer or factory installed? I was told that they are only making a limited number of 2006's so that (hopefully for Mazda) won't be a problem. There are still quite a few 2005's on the lots in the DC area.
Any speculation as to whether or not Mazda will have special pricing incentives on the 2006 RX-8 since it is coming out so late? I would think that with the 2007's hot on their tail they will want to move their stock quickly.
I hope your dealer has an existing RX-8 order they can change to fit your specs....Mazda isnt accepting dealer direct orders for the 2006 RX-8 this month.
They are not actually "skipping" 2006. The delays (mostly because of the high orders for Mazda 6s - made on the same line and selling better with better margins than the RX-8) have pushed the 2006 RX-8s into the time frame that they can call them 2007s. They will still be made in 2006, will look like 2006s, but will be labled 2007s. It will make it "safer" for a dealer ... Read More
Really??? I went to the one in Portland and they had a book of Mazda's 2006 lineup and there was a 2006 RX-8 listed in there, so I don't know. Have a look at the "spec. deck" posted on the RX-8 club forum (it's from Mazda as dealer presales info.). The HP of the manual is as it always was - 238. Welcome back to the rotary world. I sold my 1987 RX7 when I moved to Boston. Regretted it ever since. Now my RX-8 has revived my soul and it's wicked practical as well. The fire Japan was a year ago. There's a 6 speed AT with 212HP for 2006 over the 4 speed AT with 197HP. There's also a new bluish green color call Phantom Blue, which if it's the same Phantom Blue as I saw on the Mazda 5, is a big yuck in my little book. Some have suggested the 6 speed AT is better, because gas millage ticks up and is smoother because of six speeds to feed ... Read More

If that Mazda 5 Phantom Blue is the example of the RX-8 Phantom Blue then I definitely don't need to wait for this in 2006. They absolutely, positively, WILL NOT talk openly via e-mail about any details. Thanks for the information once again.
You're making a great choice! Be sure that if you're financing via Mazda North American Credit, that you do get that $1000 rebate. All rebates can be applied on top of S-Plan. Rumour mill again - however it confirms what I've been hearing for over a year now. The 2006 model automatics -may- get the new Miata six speed automatic. This makes sense, as it will be a transmission Mazda will have in production, it will increase the number used (helping them reduce per unit costs), and it will help the auto RX-8 "keep up" with the manual. They (rumour propogators) say it ... Read More
Saw a 0-60 time on the auto of 9.0 seconds. That’s screwed. No auto for me. Really want that paddle shifter though. We have an element that just keeps barely up with the heat. Parents have a 10 year old ... Read More
Hopefully Mazda will fix the 8 for the slushbox set, since in its current build (4 speeds, less power) I would not recommend it. I would not recommend getting an underpowered car with the intention of trying to boost it to acceptable levels of power. I would think that is a road to disappointment. If you are crawling in FL traffic all the time - the 8 runs pretty hot (see ... Read More
Many of us are waiting - for certain "developments" that have been in the internal Mazda pipeline for a few years now. These include a new manual trans. that uses "paddle shifters", and a new automatic that can take 9000 RPM. "why don't we have little 'Air Coolers' on the front side of our air intakes?" The reason for the power loss is the air is thinner.
