Review

Mazda wasn't even on my list of cars I
considered when I was shopping for one.
However, the Mazda dealership was next
to the Mitsubishi one, so I stopped
there... I test drove the Civic, Focus,
Eclipse, Tiburon et al., but there was
no contest. The handling of the vehicle
is in a class of its own. The ride is
firm, precise, sporty. The interior is
very attractive, all the materials look
and feel very high-class, no cheap
plastic. Nice versatility with the form
factor. Has needed nothing except for
regular oil changes. Standard
maintenance very cheap. Seats four
adults comfortably.

Best Features

Handling, steering wheel and interior.

Worst Features

Adjusted gearing for the manual. It's running too high RPMs at highway speeds. Offer engine immobilizer as an option. More compartments in trunk, slightly better rear seat design for removal.

Review

I've had the P5 for about 5 months now
and really think it is a great little
car. The engine is peppy and with the 5
speed is quick enough for most city and
highway driving. Gas mileage is okay
(around 27 mpg mixed driving). We have
the sunroof and roof rack on and have
never noticed the so called whistle
like some others have, even going above
75 mph. We really like the room this
car has. It is surprising just how much
stuff can fit in the cargo area
(similar to the Protege Sedan trunk in
terms of surprise). We also liked the
fact that we could put two car seats in
with our seats back and travel in
comfort for a 6 hour drive.

Best Features

Styling of car is great. We get a lot of compliments about how nice it looks in black. Many people can't believe its a Mazda, others say Zoom Zoom when they see it.

Worst Features

Better stock tires for locations that experience winters with snow. The tires are sport tires that are great on dry road, but a little slippery on wet and snowy roads.

Review

Bought the 2003 P5 last month after 6
months of research. It's exactly what
this single gal needs! Got rid of a
Miata and Saab for my Protege5 (loaded,
w/ leather, roof, 6-disc the works) and
couldn't be happier with the price,
performance, and handling. Highly
recommend this versatile, sporty, and
(gasp!) economical ride!!
