Vehicle2000 Mazda Protege ES 4dr Sedan
ReviewOther than minor recalls, this car is as dependable as any of its Japanese counterparts. It's performance/price ratio is higher than the competition by a good bit. The ES's interior is clean, tightly finished and nicely laid out.
Best FeaturesSolid shifting (though 1st could feel a tad more positive); excellent steering responsivness; suspension is taught, slides evenly; rigid chassis.
Worst FeaturesMore right-leg space; higher 5th gear (or a add a 6th!); slightly larger wheels.
