Logging 101K miles, my '94 Mazda Protege
never had a sick day in its life - until,
of course, I totalled it. Up until then,
I didn't maintain it as well as
recommended, yet it never let me down.
I had two complaints: A clacking sound
when idling at 500rpm, which was due to a
loose bracket, and that the seatbelt
sensor alarm sounded randomly. The
seatbelt began its behavior in 1998. The
mechanics weren't too surprised, so this
may be a common bug. At 300 bucks to fix
it, I decided I could live with the
random beeping noise.
All in all, I have nothing but praise for
the little car that could.
