The new 2006 MX-5 maintains much of the handling and steering that have made it a perennial favorite, with the added bonus of a willing engine.
MX-5s are very livable in day-to-day use, with a smooth ride, more rigid chassis and enough space for 6-footers.
The soft top on the new MX-5, with its glass rear window and fold flat design, may be the easiest manually operated convertible top on the market. Interior controls are improved with steering mounted buttons for audio and cruise controls and many handy storage bins.
The attempt at modernizing the classic Miata shape doesn't quite work, but the build quality and interior materials are top-notch.
