1994 Mazda MX-5 Miata 2dr Convertible

Review

About 2 months ago I bought a 1994 Miata equipped with the B-Package and ABS. It had 53,XXX miles on it, had never been in an accident, and had all the records. I got the car for $3,000. This has hands down been one of the best gamble of my life. I absolutely loves this little car. Its a blast to drive, still feels as solid as a rock (especially for an mid 90's convertible), gets great gas mileage, and looks absolutely stunning. And, what surprised me is it actually sounds good for a 4 cylinder. Plus, The car fits my family and I perfectly (I'm the tallest at 5'8"). I expect many more happy, fun filled miles in this two seater.

Favorite Features

Fuel economy, having the ability to put the top down, exhaust note, precise 5-speed manual with short throws, build quality, A/C, its comfortable for average sized people, having ABS, small storage nooks and crannies (pouch behind the passanger seat, 2 door pouches, glover box, center console box, and self behind the seats), the handling, and the constant compliments I get about the car (I was very surprised when I noticed this car still turns heads).

Suggested Improvements

Ground clearance, it can be hard to get out of, no roll bar, questionable safety on todays roads, some road roughness can upset the ride/handling, trunk size, manual top with boot cover takes a few minutes to put down or up, luckily though, putting the top up takes less time.

Review

I just had my little car's engine rebuilt by the mechanic whose worked on her since 2000. It's like driving a new car. Everything else mechanical on my well maintained vehicle is in near- new condition (the interior is my next project). I've loved every minute of driving this car and with the engine done, I am looking forward to another 15 years (before the next engine replacement!)

Favorite Features

The headlights ("funny eyes" my daughter calls them) and the handling.

Review

Maybe pre-mature - I've owned this car for only 9 months - but I have enjoyed every trouble free moment I've had it. Very impressed that an almost 16 year old car drives as well and feels as tight as this one does. I bought it with less than 80000 miles so it's been gently used over the years. When I was a kid in high school and college I had a couple of MGB's and loved 'em, but they were troublesome and unreliable. So when I set out to get another roadster to recapture the fun of open air driving I just had to get a 1st generation Miata. I get not only the fun, but the trouble free reliability as well. Having the both together is almost too good to believe.

Favorite Features

It's a red, 5-spd, convertible that handles like it's on rails. Has a sweet exhaust note and the wind in the hair driving experience is unbeatable. And, yeah, I do feel like a kid again.

Suggested Improvements

I guess if I wanted improvements I'd get the 3rd generation Miata (I mean, MX-5). No, this car is perfect as is. The after market stuff for this car is plentious so if I ever do get a hankering to improve anything I will be in good shape.

Review

I had bought this car for $1000 knowing that I would likely modify it. It was cheap since it was bought from a friend. I am now a firm believer in Miatas. I understand why there are so many of them around. Even in stock form, it handles amazing, the motor purrs at high rpm, and the fun factor increases exponentially with the top down. It such a fun little car to drive, I use it all the time just to take it on the road. Some wider wheels, sway bars, and shocks is going to be SO much fun....even in stock form this car is a driver's dream!. I knew many like the 94 because of more HP and have to say this one is no slouch...it feels very good.

Favorite Features

top down, great gas mileage, reliable, great suspension design, torsen LSD , lightweight alloy wheels, lots of MODS available.

Suggested Improvements

louder muffler for a bit more growl, lower the stance a bit.

Review

Have only had this 15 year old car for four months, but what a fun ride so far! Was looking for inexpensive, reliable, fun and sure found it in the Miata. When I was a kid I had an MGB in high school and another in college. This car handles better, gets better gas mileage and is much more reliable.

Favorite Features

Had to have a first generation Miata. Love the pop up headlights and the simple, classic design. Everyone mistakes it for new. The best thing about it is that it is a convertible!

Suggested Improvements

I'd have bought newer if I wanted any improvements. Great the way it is, but if you want to improve it there are tons of aftermarket suppliers

Review

I bought this car several years ago having wanted one for a long time. it had over 125K on the clock and needed a top, shocks and seats, but the body and mechanicals were good. I gave it a new top, opting for a heated glass cloth top. I reupholstered the seats in leather. Upgraded the shocks and installed sway bars. I haven't enjoyed driving this much since my Fiat days in the 70s.

Favorite Features

The seating position is great to me. I love the controls and the handling.

Suggested Improvements

Not much. This is the closest to the perfect sports car you can find. It encompasses great handling and feel with dependability. My preference is to keep it as close to stock looking as possible.

Review

I have owned my Miata for 12 years. My parents bought it for me as my first car when I turned 16. It has 120000 miles on it, and It has never broken down. It has never left me stranded. I have had it serviced when it was due. The interior and exterior are still in excellent condition. I live in TX so the weather is usually always perfect for top down fun! The leather and wood trim are all in excellent condition. This has been a true delight to own and I will be buying another Miata when this one finally dies, which I hope will not be for a long time.

Favorite Features

My favorite features are the speakers in the headrest, convertible top, wood trim and leather seats. Still a great looker.

Suggested Improvements

A little more power would have been nice, but overall a great car.

Suggested Improvements

Review

I have a black Miata with tan interior leather with the Nardi stick shifter. I was moving to Florida and wanted a weekend car. My first choice was a MR2, but no luck on one in good condition. My brother had a 91 with 170000 miles with no problems so I bought one. I have not done any major work in 6 years. Only oil changes, put synthetic gear fluid and a set of plugs and air filter. I did have to replace the top but for 560 dollars including labor you can't beat. I am running Mobil 1 synthetic and I get 31 MPG and tha'ts with the air running half the time. Anyone looking for an inexpensive convertible and does not mind go-cart type ride and handling then this is the car for you.

Favorite Features

The short throw stick shift, rear end, the speakers in the head rest, and the way the engine purrs at 60 mph and above.

Suggested Improvements

More leg room, an armrest on the door, more storage compartments, a dome light up around the mirror.
