2000 Mazda MPV 4 Dr LX Passenger Van
Review
I've had way too many minor and medium level problems, although no major problems yet. Both front door actuators have failed, as has the driver's window motor. All have failed where there's a metal to plastic gear meshing. The CD changer jams and has to be removed and unjammed every 3-4 months. The latch for the visor mirror broke so the mirror hangs open if the visor is down. Plastic covers for inside door lights have fallen off because the plastic tabs broke.
Favorite Features
Sliding rear doors on both sides, and they have electric windows. Easy to park. Two way folding third row seat.
Suggested Improvements
Stop making motors with metal to plastic gearing. Better engine.

Problems after 6 years
Vehicle
2000 Mazda MPV 4 Dr LX Passenger Van
Review
Bought this van new. No problems. Changed oil, rotated tires, purchased new tires as needed. Rear heater was warranty work. At 6 1/2 years old 100,000 + the check engine light comes on. Transmission hasn't failed yet, but we're wondering, thought Mazda was more reliable than this. Our 1st Mazda was about 9 years old, no mechanical when we traded for larger van. I want to decide when I trade, not have mechanical failure decide for me!
Favorite Features
2nd row windows that roll down made change from sedan to van no problem We have larger engine, great pickup even in mountains on vacation.
Suggested Improvements
Transmission!

Twice Mazda Owner

2000 Mazda MPV 4 Dr ES Passenger Van
Review
I have owned my Mazda van for 7 1/2 years and love the way it rides and drives. It is easily guided into parking spots and easy to backup and pass other vehicles on the highway. Love the room that it has when all the seats are lowered or removed.
Favorite Features
Sunroof, interior color.
Suggested Improvements
Gear shift too close to cupholder, console between seats.

MPV still Zooms
Vehicle
2000 Mazda MPV 4 Dr LX Passenger Van
Review
Purchased new because it was NOT a big minivan and had a fold-under 3rd row seat. Handles better than some cars of similar weight and size. Power is adequate or better in most situations. @ 90,000 miles and 7 years, has original brakes and battery, no light bulb has ever burned out. No problem with any major system. MPG rated 23 highway, 18 city, all-around experience is about 22 MPG; have gotten 25+ on highway. Can easily remove 2nd row seats and fold under 3rd row for versatility. No power seat, but ergonomics are very good. Smaller outside dimensions means easy to maneuver.
Favorite Features
Handling. Driver ergonomics. Removable 2nd row seats, fold-under 3rd row results in good hauling space. Car-like size.
Suggested Improvements
Power was OK, but was increased in 2003 model. Could have used center console in front. Gear shift lever blocks some dash instruments Front cupholders are mediocre. High step-in makes it difficult for less agile people.

Don't waste your money buying used
Vehicle
2000 Mazda MPV 4 Dr LX Passenger Van
Review
Purchased in Nov. 2001 as a used vehicle and have had no real mechanical issues to complain about. It has performed well over the last six years. The biggest complaint I have is the corrosion issue. I first noticed a problem around the rear wheel well. Then around the edges of the doors. The hood has now perforated at the front edge and the paint is bubbling along that same edge. On the underside of the hood a chunk 4"x3" came off when I closed the hood. The rubber seal (to keep water out) no longer provides a seal because there is nothing for it to attached to. Buyer beware if you purchase this van you will have a rust bucket. Beware!!!
Favorite Features
Fold down third row into floor, third row can be flipped to be used as a bench, captain slide together to make single bench, and roll down windows in sliding doors.
Suggested Improvements
Paint the vehicle properly to prevent major corrosion. Have the second row captain chairs move fore and aft. Improve fuel economy.

I will never buy another Mazda

I have taken my Mazda to the dealer 3 times because it will not keep running when it is cold.Gave the dealer $300.00 to fix it and it is still broken - now they want another $250.00 to replace a part that they think may be bad. And the AC has died ever summer. And it cost about $200.00 every summer to get it fixed. I custom ordered it from the dealer new in 2000.
Favorite Features
None.
Suggested Improvements
Buy GM.

Good overall minivan
Vehicle
2000 Mazda MPV 4 Dr ES Passenger Van
Review
First family minivan has been a good one. This van purchased at 88K needed a front axle, and minor items up to 115K and still happy. Runs great and been reliable.
Favorite Features
Rear seat folds. We leave it tucked away to put kids stuff in the back. Then when we need to haul people, it's there. Stereo is cool and cranks.
Suggested Improvements
Better cupholders for driver. Hard to change sparkplugs. More power.

This Van is the WORST EVER!
Vehicle
2000 Mazda MPV 4 Dr DX Passenger Van
Review
This vehicle is the worst car I have ever owned. We have had to replace the starter, alternator twice, 2 batteries, ABS sensors, driver's side motor that operates the windows, brackets that hold the rear gate up when open, heating/cooling pipes, and 3 transmissions. Most of which has left us with no vehicle while repairs are being done, and no offer to pay for a rental, and note that most repairs take a minimum of 2 days. Some longer as parts have to be ordered from China or Japan or someplace like that. This is the worst experience EVER! Also note that this is our only vehicle and we have 4 children who all involved in activities, not to mention the things that must be done.
Favorite Features
Fold down into the floor 3rd bench.
Suggested Improvements
Develop a vehicle that doesn't have to be disassembled every time something has to be replaced or better yet build a van that actually works.

Not perfect, but no bad for the money
Vehicle
2000 Mazda MPV 4 Dr LX Passenger Van
Review
This is my 2nd car/van, & the 1st one I bought new. Maybe because the MPV is smaller; it handles the road a bit more stable than the other two minivans I tested. I love the flexibility of the 2nd & 3rd row seats arrangement as well as the 2nd row window that actually opens, which other car company copy in their later models. MPV does have its weakness in horsepower & torque (especially when you turn on the a/c). Another problem is the rear wiper spring is very weak; may break when car wash. I hated the transmission for its jerkiness. In terms of up keep of the vehicle, it actually cost me less than my brother's Honda Odyssey (5 years running), which he later traded in for a Sienna last year.
Favorite Features
The seating arrangement are flexible, which I enjoy so much for trips. The only vehicle with hand pull parking brake.
Suggested Improvements
Transmission jerkiness must be fixed. More horsepower & torque needed. Navigation will be nice to have. 2nd row window should be able to open while it's open.
