A tremendous performance bargain! Very, very fun. No problems during my 20K ownership. Excellent handling and acceleration. Lots of recalls, however, one of which (ECU reprogram) seemed to reduce acceleration. Steering feel superb, shifter itself solid (although car has a very touchy clutch from 1st to 2nd; takes some getting used to. Best clutch operation under heavier acceleration. A true sleeper! Astounding good looks but not riddled with badges advertising AWD, turbo, stability control, etc (e.g. subaru). No juvenile wings/vents. Very supportive front seats. Loved the car. It has been a benchmark by which I judged more recent purchases.
Better-than-advertised acceleration. Good cornering/braking performance. Outstanding looks. A great buy for an auto enthusiast.
Very sensitive clutch. Key card and keyless start system unnecessary gimmick. I think manufacturers have realized this since there are a plethora of models that still use traditional key. Button on door handle didnt work half the time and the card shaped "keyfob" not ergonamic for traditional keyless entry use. Had to use manual key a few times to start because car did not recognize keycard. Armrest poorly positioned for short drivers. Steering wheel controls (though aesthetically pleasing) were hard to use using thumbs alone requiring use of pointer finger. Shift knob easily scratched by rings. Narrow tires that wear out quickly.

There is a timing chain problem for the Mazdaspeeds (3 and 6) that Mazda realizes and provides a company fix for free charge. Any smoke from the engine or exhaust that's funny colored is also under their extended warranty. You car has to be under 70,000 miles though. If not timing chain replacement + vvt actuator + timing guides + timing gaskets + cost of labor ~= $800. Sometimes difficult to shift, but a good fix is the rear engine mount for $125. Great car, extremely reliable, even with the timing problem, runs every time.
290 torque at like 3000 rpms. Way cheaper than wrx with 220 something torque at 4000 rpms. Smooth daily driver. A good selection of aftermarket parts including the access port ecu tuner.
Weighs a ton... Carbon fiber hood would be a good fix. AWD. Is it really all wheel drive all the time? Question you should ask yourself.

Ok, I just bought this lovely vehicle in August of 2010. I am the second owner, and I am glad I bought this car. I stepped up to this car from a 2001 Acura CL-S. This car is absolutely amazing! An AFFORDABLE 4- door sports sedan is hard to find! I looked at the Lexus IS300 and BMW 330i/335i that they had at the lot, and to me, this car blew both of them out of the water after test driving all three. The AWD helps with my judgment, the 6-speed manual is rough but it works! The stereo is weak for a BOSE but the car gets compliments no matter where it goes. People behind me think its just a regular Mazda 6 until they can't see it anymore!
The 6-speed manual, the exterior styling, the interior is great also. A lot of trunk room. Comfort. AWD. Thee direct-injection 274 hp 4- cylinder turbo (OMG), the torque (when I drive it hard and power shift from 1st to 2nd, glasses on top of my head jump to the back seat, Simply Beautiful)
Gear Ratios (6th gear, constant 80 mph is 3000 RPM. 3000 RPM!) Better Stereo Please.
After reading other reviews, I guess I should consider myself lucky. I've not had a single problem since I bought the car new. I've added a Cobb Access Port, drilled and slotted rotors w/ ceramic pads, a Magnaflow Exhaust and the Cobb intake. Car makes 269 RWHP. I will say tire wear is poor. The best I ever got was 17,000 miles. After 4 sets, I've settled on the Pirelli P- Zero-Nero for all weather driving. Soft & sticky in dry and tremendous in the snow. Cost is $114 EA at Tirerack. Don't understand the clutch complaints. Cobb has a simple fix for the smoking issue. For the price (new or used) nothing touches this ride. Power, 6-speed, AWD, Bose Stereo, power sunroof, heated seats etc.
Power, 6-Speed, AWD, heated seats, reliability and of course, the sleeper factor. Overall, this car rates a 12 on a scale of 10 for the fun factor.
About the only thing I would have liked to see was a bigger tire footprint.
I bought the car with 12000 miles on it and out of the 9 vehicles I have owned it is by far my favorite. The transmission had to be rebuilt at 18000 miles. Thankfully it was under warranty. The reverse lights don't work and I think that has to do with the rebuilt transmission. The car has inconsistent power because of a hyper sensitive knock sensor and I use 93 octane only. I use Mobile1 Extended Performance and it really helps with power. Change oil every 5-7K. I am going to put on a new intake, exhaust, lowering sport springs, and get a COBB ECU programmer. Should take care of the power issues and put the peak HP over 325. Don't buy this car unless you can deal with some issues.
Performance for the price. Excellent value and an awesome car to drive. The AWD gives it great handling. I enjoy the subtle looks. Blending in is good if you want to push it and avoid unwanted attention.
Slightly lower suspension (1-2"). Needs a better intake and exhaust ... California emissions hinders the performance of the car. Really needs to have the ECU flashed. Factory engine management is horrid. The knock sensor is too sensitive and kills the power quite often.
After 80,000km some thoughts: -Clutch is a challenge (in a fun way). -Turbo NEEDS 94 octane. -Gas consumption: 7.5L/100km on I15 from San Diego to Canada @80mph. Average over 80,000km is about 10L/100km (fuel consumption is effect the most by acceleration rather than speed) -Inconsistent tire ware (alignment checked several times) -Keyless entry (auto locking) is very unpredictable -Winter tires are a must for snowy conditions -Ample room for 4 adults -Warranty issues: power windows, auto locking, power steering pump. (fuel consumption is effect the most by acceleration rather than speed)
Fix the electrical. Same power with less octane. Better gear ratio for 6th gear (@120km/h it is 3000rpm).
Awesome car. Got 27 mpg highway, 24 mpg city. With BASIC upgrades (exhaust, intake) got 28 mpg city, and up to 33 mpg highway. Fun car to drive, awesome performance, build quality is excellent. Rear differential mount is my only complaint, after 6mos heavy driving I managed to crack it. But I understand upgraded mounts are available. And I also understand not everyone drives like I do. Interior was very comfortable, quiet, smooth ride. Handling is outstanding. Faster mod for mod than Subaru wrx, and also faster stock for stock. Competes with BMW m3 & Subaru sti with few BASIC mods. Out handles sti's, and even legacy gt's. Drive one for yourself!

rear differential mount could be tougher, for racing enthusiasts. but will still take a beating. remember i only said the mount! the rear differential itself is very strong.
I purchased a 2006 grand touring speed6 back in 2007. I had problems from the get go. The clutch is incredibly hard to use - especially coming out of 1st gear. Apparently Mazda replaced the clutch IF the car had less than 1200 miles on it. Also - a recall was sent out for the ECU to be flashed. As soon as that was done, all the seat sucking turbo power and fun was gone. The boost was cut in half and the gas mileage was worsened. Is it a bad car, No. Does it have its problems - YES. I traded it in for a rock solid Subaru Impreza WRX. I sacrificed the toys for Quality and have not regretted it since. if you want a "SPEED" go for the "3" and if you test drive a "6" - make sure you like it first

The Mazdaspeed6 has left me with a bittersweet taste. On one hand, I love driving it, as it's proven to be an extremely fun car to drive. It's mileage has been really good for a turbo (22/twn, 28/hwy). With 06 being the release year, there have been very hit-or-miss findings of problems. There exists a "shudder" that most 06 MS6 owners experience that doesn't go away, nor does Mazda have an explanation for it. The stock clutch is extremely tricky to learn. Overall tho, with all the bad, I still love my MS6. For what it is, it's a GREAT car if you're looking for similar performance to the Evo or STi, but without all the extra hoopla that screams look-at-me. A true sleeper by definition.
Power to burn, turbo, excellent brakes, stable handling, plush interior, HIDs, auto up/down on all 4 windows, gas mileage, AWD, lower resale, no goofy space shuttle wing or scoop, sleeper, great mix of performance while still being pampered.
Hit-or-miss problems, infamous shudder, ridiculous stock clutch, rear fold-down seats require removing trunk lining, lower resale, factory GPS could be more user-friendly, comes with summer tires - MUST HAVE all-seasons for winter, where's the boost gauge???
274HP 280TQ great alternative to STi or EVO if you need the space @ this price. Avg of 22mpg on 80 mile trip daily @ 90% hwy @ 80mph. Handling is great for a daily driver. If your an experienced driver, turn off trac control in snow and rain like I do. I hate losing power to the wheel when there's a dip in the road. 18" wheels looks great but expensive to replace tires (had snow tires and popped 2 and it cost me $250.00 each) After a short trip during winter, came to a stop and idle for about 2 minutes and saw smoke coming out of the exhaust with a burning smell (drove normally). Had to trade it in due to high gas prices for a hybrid. I think I'll sacrifice speed for mpg.

HID is useless (my Audi A4 no HID was brighter), fog lights doesnt improve visibility. 1 touch windows is great but the sunroof isn't 1 touch. Heated seats do not stay on.
I bought this car back in November 2006. I haven't had any problems with this car. The only thing I had to do was replace the tires because the factory tires wear down fast. The speed of this car is great. I have no problems getting around other cars that don't want to get in the right lane. This is the best car I have owned.

Coming from another turbo awd sedan, the Audi a4, I felt I wanted another one slightly larger, but not at the Audi A6 price tag. Enter the Mazdaspeed6. On paper it sounding great, 274 hp/280 ft-lb, awd, 6 speed, four doors. But like many things in life, long term ownership tells the truth. 1st the bad: OEM Bridgestones gripped very well, but noisy and wore out by 19k. Clutch pedal offered off/on action, the engine somewhat thirsty for a 4 cylinder even if it has a turbo, interior not very plush. The good: stops better than many cars, excellent road handling in many types of weather conditions, subdued looks, and somewhat comfortable for longer trips. I would buy this car again.
Torque comes on strong at relatively low RPMs for some serious highway passing. No need to fear off/on ramps in almost any weather condition. Spacing of gears in 6 speed transmission keeps it in the powerband, NO TORQUE steer - despite the car being FWD biased, outward visibility is great.
Slightly flared fenders front and back to accept wider wheels/tires that should have come factory (18x8 not 18x7 - RX8 ones fit very nicely), should have lowered the suspension slightly from the factory, offer some control over front/rear torque split for the AWD,& front not top mounted intercooler.
First Off: I LOVE driving this car. However, I HATE the car's quality. I have been complaining to the dealer about an engine noise since 5000 miles. And in those 13000 miles since, the noise has been acknowledged, but not repaired. Even Mazda USA Corp will not address my concern. This is my second Mazda I own and it unfotunately will be the last. This car suits me so well. At 6'1", interior size is perfect. It has an understated look that many find elegant. I find the view from the profile could use some improvment. I truly enjoy driving this car; great perfomance at a great price. Lack of dealer and corporate support for the car forces me to reconsider future purchases.
Power/performance. AWD capability. Subtle (sleeper?) looks.
Engine quality. Dealer support. Corproate support. Put a real exaust on. Adjustable heated seats. **Owners will need to purchase all- season or winter tires for snowy climates.** This was known to me when I purchased the car - not a complaint, just a recommendation to other future owners.
I love my car love the way it drives, but it's a different story when you start talking reliability. I had the clutch burn up 2000 miles after I bought it used at 11k. They replaced it around 14k under warranty. But now it's going out again after 5500 miles. They are refusing to cover it again without even looking at it. Not a fan of legacy Mazda in provo.
Performance! When it works... The interior is beautiful, but starting to creak in the cold.
Dash lighting is sub par, could loose the aggressive red. And a new clutch design would rock.
This is a commuting car for me. The overall performance is very good. Great mid-range acceleration, a decent AWD system. I have Blizzaks, have worked it hard in the snow and the system is not nearly as good as Audi quattro. You can't hold a straight line under full throttle as with the Audi, but you quickly adapt. A solid car. The suspension is very stiff, clutch a little high. The wife calls it a "chuckwagon". I love it. Had one weird experience: gulped a quart of oil on me in about 200 miles on a very cold day (about 10 degrees), driving freeway. Car had about 5,000 miles at the time. No problems since. Dealer had no explanation.

The 18" wheels look great, but they make for a harsh ride, especially in winter. Ditch the plastic body moldings, fake exhausts, rear deck lid. You don't see that crap on an Audi or Bimmer.
This is a great alternative to the Evo and Sti on paper. However with the lack of drivetrain/engine testing by mazda, virtually no aftermarket parts available, terrible resale value, and awful customer service, this car was truly a bust. The clutch is hard to drive with it's abnormally high engagement point, though there was a recent techinacal service bulletin to fix it.
When it works, it's a great sedan, fun to drive, comfortable ride yet firm and sporty, fast around town with the quick spooling turbo.
Reliability and customer service need serious help. With only 8k miles on it the car would hardly run in the cold. The engine would die under load until it had run for 10+ mins. So it went to the dealer numerous times totaling more than 30 days. Did mazda even do any engine testing under 32 degrees?
As a car enthusiast, I wanted a performance car with adult looks. The Speed6 delivers without the ticket-me-now air scoop and teenage styling cues found on the Mitsu Evo and Subaru WRX. The Speed6 is understated style, with great looks and awesome handling. Assembled in Japan, build quality is excellent. The Speed6 is even-tempered, providing ample feedback as you approach the limits. Turbo lag is noticeable but predictable. One minor complaint is that the RWD kicks in roughly in certain gears. For family outings, it has solid road feel with ample space for my wife and daughter. I bought my 2006 in February 2007. Pick one up while you can.
The 6 speed manual transmission and AWD are terrific. The Bose stereo sounds great for a factory radio, the bi-level dash with info display closer to windshield level combined with on-wheel controls is great for distraction-free driving. Xenon headlights height adjustable and bright.
Heated seats are on/off only, and should be adjustable. There should be a bracket on the fuel door to hold the gas cap during refueling. I would have liked a more comprehensive on-board computer with fuel mileage, running time, etc.
The car handles amazing and the price is great for what you're getting. The Bose stereo is pretty good. Amazing power... you would never think that this is a 4. More power than most 6 cyls. The paint quality on my Speed6 is suspect. Ice slid off my car during the winter, leaving several scratches on the trunk. Now that's cheap paint. Also, although the foldaway design of nav is excellent, it is not intuitive at all, much better in Honda and Nissan. Can't use nav when driving even though remote was made for passenger to use. The car drinks gas but its to be expected with this much power.
AWD, HID, 18" wheels, subdued styling, Bose, foldaway nav, unbelievable handling.
Add trip computer, auto headlights, 2 settings for heated seats, better and more durable paint, all season tires to go with AWD!
I have had my MS 6 now for 6 months and 7,500 miles. It is a lot of fun to drive, but takes some work to master the clutch and gas pedal. The clutch is a bit edgy, and you need to back off the gas as the turbo spools up, especially in first and second!! One item seen in many reviews is the fuel mileage the MS 6 gets. For the first 2,500 miles the best I could do was 18 to 19 MPG. At 2,500 I changed the oil with Royal Purple. On the same driving route I am averaging 25 MPG mixed hwy and city. On the hwy I run 70 to 80 MPH, so I don't feel I'm driving too easy. Some may feel the car has a stiff ride, well it does, but drives like it's on rails!! Not for every one but right for me!!
Power and handling, it will dust just about anything on the road. I enjoy the fact that it requires some skill do drive well.
Since purchasing my Speed6, the dollar:fun factor ratio is unbeatable. Other vehicles offering all that the MS6 does cost almost twice as much (read: Audi). Very happy thus far with this vehicle all around.
To name a few: DISI Turbo 4, AWD, HID, leather, amount of space available, handling, keyless entry and ignition.
Possibly more distinctive from the standard 6.
Have had this car for over a year and love it. Have had very few problems outside of getting the keylees entry module replaced for the trunk, which was covered under warranty. Otherwise the car has been supurb. Power hits hard and is smooth to about 5500 rpm. I would suggest getting an upgrade to the ECU to tap into the full capibility of this turbo, but be aware the turbo is pretty well maxed out. There are several mods you can do to help this. Critically speaking, you must put 91+ in the car or it goes into limp mode, the build quality is a little less than the upper end cars so I have been noticing a few squeaks here and there, but nothing annoying as of yet.
Favorite feature is the keyless entry. You don't ever have to lock or unlock the car, it just knows when you're near it and allows entry. Also automatically locks the car too... very cool.
The car need a bigger turbo (stock one runs out of breath at 5500 rpm), better innercooler (front mount would be best to avoid heatsoak issues) and wider tires (stockers are 215mm).
After 1.5 years, I still greatly enjoy the car. It's fun to drive - a great less-expensive alternative to a BMW 3 series. Hard to believe it's a 4-cylinder, as it has more low-end torque than most 6s I've driven. There's a "hiccup" at very low RPM if you suddenly floor it, so stay above 3000 if you need instant power.
3rd gear. Bose audio system. Intelligent key.

Due to the lack of marketing, an 06 Grand Touring is a terrific bargain. Mine includes nav, roof and autodim mirror. I like my Mazda better than a BMW 530 I recently drove. The Mazda is very refined, smooth and ultra quiet. The AWD make it even more of a bargain, brakes are fantastic and traffic "darting" while not condoned is very easy. The car handles like a dream and has almost no body roll at all in the twisties. Insurance is cheaper than you'd expect! The nav is a waste - DON'T DO IT! You can't make any adjustments when the car is moving, which doesn't make sense since the remote comes out for a passenger to use.
6 speed and AWD, Bose (once adjusted), keyless GT package, ergonomics, smooth and quiet ride, understated styling, ridiculously perfect handling, tilt/telescope steering wheel.
Another heat setting for the seat would be nice, the clutch is difficult to master, rain sensing wipers would be nice.
As a long time Mazda owner and the owner of a 2004 Mazda 6 V6/5speed, traded in at 60K miles for this 2006 MazdaSpeed6, I have a couple of things to say. The MS6 I own is a piece of junk that has had rear end whine since 1100 miles, has chewed up 2 sets of front tires in 3400 miles, has had a CEL a coupla times, and most importantly, Mazda will not keep their word. I've not driven this car for 6 weeks which is how long Mazda took to decide what to do after renegging on a promise of a buy it back and replace it with another different Mazda. They just decided 2 weeks ago to replace the rear differential and just put another set of tires on it... Who knows?
Revamp customer relations department... Improve the fuel economy... A canister oil filter? Just why? Fix factory Bridgestone tire problems.
The car is a blast to drive. On smooth pavement it's like being in a bank vault, but bumps in the road will cause a fair amount of noise in the cabin. The clutch was tricky at first, but after I got used to it, there were no more problems. You don't have to worry about merging into traffic with this car. The torque of the engine also means infrequent shifts, even in heavy traffic. My biggest problem so far has been going faster than I intended.
Acceleration and handling are great. I enjoy the ergonomics, too. The steering wheel controls may not operate all of the stereo's features, but it contols the most important ones. The car is comfortable on long drives.
While the car retains the fold-down rear seat of the other versions of the Mazda6, it doesn't have the release hardware, probably because of the extra bracing used in the Speed6. Mazda should have it set up for at least a pass-through.
Well built for the price segment & fun to drive. Interior is comfortable with excellent driver positioning. Chassis is rigid with good steering & suspension feedback. Engine is strong (when it wants to be) with well spaced gearbox ratios. A great blend of versatility & performance.
Understated "sleeper" appearance, performance & build quality. Zero rattles/squeaks.
Engine performance very inconsistent. Factory re-flash to fix hesitation only made it much slower, & the stutter/hesitation is still there. Not the same pull of the car I test drove. Multiple visits to 2 dealers without engine remedy isn't their fault...it's up to the factory ECU programmers.
Just bought used GT with navi/roof with 5200 miles. Love the car. Handled very well on the 1200 mile trip home. Has plenty of pick up even in 6th gear. Wheels were kind of a turn off, but getting used to them.
Handling, acceleration, autolock feature, red illumination of dash at night, looks.
Navi can only be used when stopped and should be touch screen like our TL. Lock and mirror buttons do not light up at night. Moonroof should be one touch open and close. Placement of seat heater buttons not as user friendly as Honda/Acura. Not fond of the carpet texture or the berber like floormats.
Have had the car for about 4 1/2 months, with 3150 miles on it. I also looked at TSX, A4 Quattro, S40, G35x, Legacy GT Limited. In the end the Speed6 GT had all the features I wanted, plus some extras; a sleeper, with AWD, heated seats (live in the north-east), manual shift. TSX was nice, but no AWD and no bargains on them. There are really only 2 "big" issues; tough clutch (but you get used to it) and poor gas mileage, especially since you have to use 93... but my commute is short, so not a big deal for me.
A real sleeper with gobs of power, keyless entry and start, exclusivity (I love not seeing all sorts of people driving the same car as me), heated seats for those cold days!, styling inside and out.
Work on that clutch, gas mileage (even though it's a turbo, it's still a 4 banger).
This is my first Mazda, and I must say I made a good choice with the Mazdaspeed 6. The turbo charged engine is great and is a lot of fun to drive. And you are in control, no overboost, good torque split 4 wheel drive system. The Bose audio sounds great with fm, cd's, and Sirius! I much recommend this car for someone looking for a head turning car.

I have 8000 miles on the car in all types of weather. I love this car. It's fast and civilized at the same time. I'm a relatively aggressive driver and it still averages 19mpg around town - albeit on 93 octane. It isn't a substitute for the boy-racer cars, but more for adults that also want the power. In comparing it to my G-35 I had before, it doesn't ride quite as well, is about as comfortable, and handles better and is much quicker - The AWD and High-po tires give it astonishing grip in the wet!. The one negative - I'll be lucky to get 12000 mile out of the Bridgestones.

As of this date I have put 2000 miles on my new MazdaSpeed 6, and am happier every day with the purchase. I got used to the somewhat touchy clutch after a couple of days and suggest one time test drivers not be put off by it. With rebates bringing out-the-door price below $25 K, this sedan is a screaming deal. Tested Subaru Legacy GT spec B, Audi A4, and BMW 3 - the Speed 6 provided by far the best bang for buck.
Performance is unparalleled for the price range. Nearly perfect for my needs and wants.
Cosmetic only - the dual exhaust ports in the rear bumper are a "GM-ish" touch that look silly.
This is the closest to a German handling sport sedan that Mazda has ever created. It may look like a "Plain Jane", but this girl likes to party.
The car's suspension is special. The term "riding on rails" has been so overused, but it truly fits. With the sport tuned suspension and automatic sensing traction controlled AWD, you can't believe how stable it is in the turns.
There should be an optional to upgrade to 3" exhaust pipes to give the car a bit more growl and some attitude. Also, the gearing pattern could be improved to hit 0-60 in 5.6, by expanding 1st & 2nd gear.
If Mazda had launched even the slightest marketing effort on this car, you would not be able to buy one. As it is, you can name your price. The MS6 is richly appointed and well designed. The interior is comfortable and reasonably quiet. I read a review of the car that was less than complementary. The same magazine recently had the Speed 3 on the cover and the article praised the car. We also have a MS3. There is little difference between the cars. The Speed 6 is a stellar car for the money. It smokes my A4 in almost every category. It is faster, quieter, better appointed, cost a lot less, and is built in Japan. Don't wait for the commercials buy now.
Contrary to other opinions, the stereo sounds very good after adjustments to treble, bass, and fade. Super quite engine at idle. Keyless entry eliminates pushing buttons. All the extras on the GT like heated seats. And the boossssst!
To get sticker for the GT they need some minor interior upgrades. The clutch is sporty and a bit tricky - may turn off the one-time test driver. The car would not be as much fun to drive with an auto tranny, but again it would bring it more main stream. They need to advertise!
I bought this car and loved it right away. Six speed standard and very fast. The 18 inch tires that come on it are excellent. The tires keep you on the road and stick in the corners. Very cool looking car. Insurance cost a little more and tire are priced high. Stereo is very good with the Bose system and six disk changer and sat radio upgrade. The power is all where it should be with the all wheel drive and traction control you take off like a rocket. HID headlights are bright and look better than the norm. Handling on highway is amazing - when changing lanes at high speeds it is comfortable with no body roll. I installed the cold air intake and it sounds great.
My favorite things are the big tires with the all wheel drive system, that will be good in the winter. My number one thing that I love is the power.
Heated wipers would be nice. Dimming rear view mirror. When the keyless entry is not in the car, you should not be able to drive it.
I have owned this vehicle for only about 4 weeks now, but I am loving it so far. Mazda may have summed it all up with their simple "Zoom-Zoom". For a sedan of this size the power and the handling are absolutely AMAZING! Bear in mind that it is not a track ready race machine but it is plenty capable of a good time. I rated the build quality and reliability very high but of course I haven't had any issues in 4 weeks of ownership. I guess we will have to see how well the new Mazda will hold up. The biggest problem I see with this car is that Mazda doesn't advertise it. I stumbled onto it by mistake while getting the oil changed.
Great power and handling. I also absolutely love the smart key system. The ride is very comfortable considering the power and handling.
Better gas mileage would be nice. I think the 18 city and 26 highway mpg estimates were very generous. The 6 disc Bose system is not as nice as the Bose systems that come in the Nissan and Infinti models, upgrade it!
Was ready to buy a WRX, then drove the Speed6. I could not pass up the performance & value for the price. Bought the Grand Touring for little more than a spartan equipped WRX. I like the WRX's overt styling cues, but appreciate the subtle styling of the Speed6.
Love the acceleration and braking, not to mention the host of standard features. Smooth 6 speed transmission and Xenon headlights.
More power, more grip, MP3 CD player with AUX imput jacks, Bluetooth, touch screen navigation, full size spare. Lose the fake exhaust pipe covers. Instrument panel illumination other than red (green, blue). Rear center head rest. Clutch feel. Turning radius. Gas mileage. Gross weight.
Love it so far. The shift from 1st to 2nd is the only aspect of this car that has been disappointing so far. I kinda have to pause and or rev slightly due to syncro slight blockage. :-(

I purchased my car in Aug '06. A week later a friend that had driven mine went and bought one himself. I have been getting so many good comments on this car even from complete strangers. Mostly no one has ever heard of the MazdaSpeed series, but once they drive it they understand where the name derived from.
Absolutely the speed and handling. I love letting guys drive the car and their immediate reaction is to jump out of the car and look under the hood. They can't get over that this car is a 4 cylinder. The direct injection turbo is incredible!
My only improvement thus far is road noise. I had a BMW 3 series before this and so far that is the only characteristic that I miss.
This is my second Mazda and second performance AWD vehicle. I am very impressed with Mazda's offering. It offers amazing performance for not much money. The only bummer is that it looks too close to a normal Mazda 6, which is not bad because they are handsome cars, but a limited production car like this deserves a little more separation. Interior is nice, not class leading but quality materials and craftsmanship is used. Very impressed!

Better Navigation system and audio system controls, better sound deadening in doors and floor panels.
The acceleration on wet roads is spectacular. With that, the braking ability inspires confidence. Ride is firm but not fatiguing, and the handling is comfortable in all but the tightest turns. DSC is unaggressive and only comes on with major weight shifts. Clutch takes some getting used to, but even in urban driving with hills it is easy to learn. Excellent car for road trips - driver and passengers arrive relaxed. Shifts are a bit heavy, but still smooth. Can outrun the majority of cars on the road - especially in bad weather.
Torque. Understated looks. Incredible braking ability. Very comfortable ride on rough pavement. Cabin visibility is excellent. You feel in total control while driving.
Interior looks cheap for a car in this price range. HID headlights could be brighter. Suspension is a little too soft in hard cornering. Stereo is merely adequate. Heavy! (both good and bad).
I read the reviews, and there were two things that stood out that I have found are problems; random loss of power and the clutch is a piece of garbage. When I first got it I worshiped it, but with time, I noticed the clutch slips at higher RPMs under acceleration and I have always noticed the times when it loses power. And you never know when the power will not be there. Bad in hilly areas with that clutch. Oh and the build quality, some parts are super cheap. Maybe that is just cause I came from an Audi. And once in a while my shifter is really stiff.
Steering, handling, interior seats and set up is really enjoyable. It is not a bad car. The Bose is nice.
Paint scratches easily, clutch is junk, and the shifter needs a little clean up so it doesn't get tied up in itself.
A real joy on "twisty" roads, once you get used to the clutch. Emergency handling (after hitting road debris and a double blow out at 80 mph) was also great. Buy a full sized spare, the tires are hard to find, and the Potenzas are expensive and a little noisy. Mileage is OK, but not great. Fit and finish are above average,and the 4 banger is remarkably quiet at idle. The fake exhausts are cheesy, but otherwise the car is a pleasure to look at. Overall this is one of my favorite cars, and just the thing to brighten the day of any post-adolescent driver.

We purchased our car in June and loved everything about, especially the great acceleration for highway passing and interstate merging. But that was before Mazda implemented recall 4106E to eliminate engine knocking by changing the ignition timing. The recall was classified (disguised) as an emission recall so we dutifully had the recall performed in August. The result was a dramatic reduction in acceleration without a hint of the turbo kicking in. We had the dealer check out the condition and were told that all was as specified by the recall. The loss of acceleration is enough that we cannot recommend the Speed6 to anyone. Shame-Shame on Mazda for taking the Zoom-Zoom out of our Speed6!
Styling, safety features, all wheel drive, traction and stability control, handling.
Fix the loss in acceleration caused by the recall action. Surely Mazda can accomplish the stated goal of preventing engine knock without having such a loss of acceleration.
This has been the most rewarding new car purchase I've ever made. Whets my appetite for getting out my track car. Performance exceeds expectations, fuel economy exceeds expectations, build quality exceeds expectations. Steering is a tad heavy, but that's to be expected with a car this heavy. This is a competitor to the Audi S4 for $20,000 less. The only shortcomings are the undersized turbo and clutch. The engine falls on its face at 5500 RPM, despite 1200 more revs until fuel shutoff. A larger turbo would alleviate this.

Love this car...put RX8 alloys so it looks like a factory special...so simple to clean the wheels after those too fussy original equipment 18s. The car is a little heavy in gearbox use but all is forgiven when you flex the right ankle and feel that response. The figures for in-gear acceleration make it quicker than a Boxster S through the gears...love that torque. A rocket and with the wider wheels better looking and better handling. A great package. My friend has a late model S4 Audi...the MPS is just as fast at half the price.
Use the RX8 wheels as standard fare. Easier on the eyes and easier to clean...and tires won't rub with that 50 offset!
I just love this car. I traded a 2005 Mazda6 Hatch for it. Just love Mazdas . Previously owned a 2004 Mazda3 SP23 as well (bought the wife an RX8! too). The MPS is a surprise package, so much torque with just a ankle rotation to blast off any annoying tailgater. The car has RX8 wheels on it and the car benefits from addition. I just love the feel of the car. Its steering is more weighted than the standard Mazda6 and it is a dream to drive in the wet. So safe and so forgiving. My friend has an Audi S4 it's certainly no better and in Oz is twice the money....

The clutch is tricky...but easily mastered. Compared with the RX8 the manual gearbox is heavy.
I was looking at several performance cars, including the RX-8, Mustang, and even GTO, but this car truly surprised me. I had a Mazda3 and have always enjoyed it and thought why not give it a shot. Holy Cow! This thing could go. The handling is awesome, nothing could compare, the ride was quiet, and the acceleration surprising. I test drove it three times just to make sure, and with all the options (sunroof, leather, nav system, etc.) nothing else I looked at compared. It's practical, but sporty. The styling is great, and the inside is on par with other luxury vehicles. This is my 3rd Mazda, so I trust the brand. If you want a sport sedan, check this one out, it will surprise you.

Different material on dashboard, passenger side power seat option, nothing else except better gas mileage (but who doesn't want that?).
Bought this car 4 weeks ago and I have to tell you that besides the great car it is I also got it for a great price. Quality, performance, organization, logistics, and style are top notch. And many thousands less than a BMW or an Audi. Do yourself a favor and check this car out.
Quality, performance, engine, power, ergonomics.
Tough to improve something top notch but here are some minor details: auto headlights, dual integrated antenna, fatter tires (235 sound good), headlight washers and yeah fix the switch like clutch. Perhaps a bit better fuel economy but I am probably asking for too much with 274 hp. ;)
Replaced a 2001 BMW 325. Shopped BMW 325, Acura TSX, Jetta GLI, Volvo S40, Lexus IS250, and Saab 9-3. From a performance standpoint the MS6 blows the doors off the the other cars I shopped. The only one in the same performance league is the BMW. In terms of fit and finish the MS6 was barely better than only the Saab and Volvo. The engine is wonderful and pulls strong as long as the revs stay above 3k. Braking is phenomenal and the DSC does an excellent job of keeping the driver in control during wet weather. The car turns like it's on rails. Test drove a GT package but decided on sport model for one main reason -- leather seats in GT model do not have high enough side bolsters.
Strong engine, tight suspension, quiet (cabin at speed), understated looks.
Sportier seats with higher side bolsters to prevent driver and front passenger from sliding around in leather seats. Engine should have been tuned so that 60 mph could be reached in 2nd gear (2nd tops out at about 55 mph). Just 400 rpm more to the redline would have accomplished that feat.
This car handles like a dream. It's got the best of both worlds...the pep of a sports car and the interior room and comfort of a sedan. Excellent design, overall.
It's a toss up between the turbocharger, the all-wheel drive, and the traction control. All of them compliment each other to great effect, and turn the car into a genuine pleasure to drive.
The non-automatic headlights take a bit of getting used to, with so many models now turning the headlights on and off in response to lighting conditions.
Mazda comes through again. This is my 5th Mazda (RX-7, B2000 & 2 MPV's) so I felt comfortable with the brand. Looked and drove the IS250, G35X and C280 4-matic. For what you get in those (fit & finish mostly) it's definitely not worth the extra cash. I love the power band. The drivers seat/steering wheel has plenty of adjustments to get comfortable. The Bose system is adequate but I didn't buy the car for the stereo. The 6-speed is wonderful and rear gearing seems to be appropriate. The styling is both subdued and eye catching at the same time. Best of all this is a one time production car (2006 only). it will hold its value.

Change the gauge cluster lighting so it will remain bright when you turn your headlights on during the daytime.
Speed6 is incredibly fast...turbo is amazing. Interior looks awesome as does the exterior. 18" rims are great as are the excellent summer tires. Navi is very nice and functional. Leather is very nice as well.
Turbo engine is unbelievably fast! You don't even notice you are at 80mph until you look down. The styling is great...lot of people ask me about the car all the time.
The gas mileage is not great...somewhere around 23mpg at best. Seat warmers need 2 settings, rather than one. The Bose stereo leaves much to be desired. The tires are grippy but 215s are too narrow....235s at least please! Summer tires useless in winter weather.
just got my black MS6 on Wednesday and i have to say that it is the fastest car i have ever driven. it has everything i wanted in a car, from the turbo to the AWD. It's sporty as well as it is luxurious. Overall a blast to drive.

What I wanted was the Mits EVO or the Subaru Impreza STI. I also have a wife and one test ride threw those cars out. So in came the Volvo S40 AWD T5, Audi A4 Quattro, Subaru Legacy GT and Mazda MSP6. The Volvo needed a little more power but a very nice car. The Audi just started to cost too much with all the options. The Subaru styling was little too bland but it was fast. The Mazda just did the best job with HP, price and styling. I have had it for a few months and still like attacking on/off ramps and just cruising in it. The Bose sound is mediocre at best. I will be replacing the speakers soon. The seats could use more upper body bolstering. The tires could be bigger 235's would be nice.
I love the power and agility of the car. The key/card is unique and interior styling is very well thought out. I can carry my friends or future kids and still do an autocross. I would suggest it to anybody who is likes a little style and power but stay understated.
I don't like the Bose radio, the sound is just bad. Just mushy thumping and no treble like most Bose systems. The clutch pedal pressure needs improvement. As soon as possible get rid of the dealer gas thats in it and fill with premium gas >93 or your HP gets cut a lot.
I recently picked up my liquid platinum speed 6 GT and I am happy to say that this car is amazing. The turbocharged 4 cylinder engine feels like it's got a v6. The look is sleek and fast yet doesn't shout fast and furious boy racer. It is tastefully designed and carefully engineered. The 6 speed manual transmission is a joy to drive and the awd just adds to the fun. This car has the practicality of an Accord with the fun to drive factor of a Mustang. I highly recommend this car.

I got my MAZDASPEED 1 month ago now. I have to say this car is amazing. It's fast, responsive, and luxurious. It gets good gas mileage for a car this powerful. It has stunning looks IMO. Not too loud but just a clean look. The gear box is a joy to operate. The Bose sound system while not amazing is still better than most factory stereos. This car already is getting some decent aftermarket support. Given time I think there should be more then enough products to choose from. Bottom line, if you want a car with a little less power than an Evo or STi but still want some luxury, this is the car for you.

Currently a Honda fanatic - but I wanted AWD performance in a sedan and Honda has stayed away from manual transmission AWD sedans. So as I looked for years at used Porsche Carrera 4's (pricey!) and tried to convince my wife that a third or four car in the driveway was "OK" (what was I thinking), along comes Mazda with a magnificent AWD sports sedan. Forget the Porsche, and the need for more than two cars! I have traded in my Honda Accord (a great car) and have two baby seats in the back of this Japanese rocket ship. Took delivery with zero defects! No problems to date. This is my first Mazda; hats off to the Mazda engineering team and executives to price this lower than Audi & BMW!

Auto temperature control needs refinement to become equal to Honda's system which moderates cabin temperature much better. Fuel economy was a bit low - 24mpg was best I achieved for a 2.3L.
I've owned the MAZDASPEED 6 for over 3-weeks. The car is great at all speeds, with almost no turbo drag. It is fun to drive. The AWD is what first brought my attention to this model as well as the lack of a hood scoop and large spoiler. It is an excellent choice for great handling performance car without those in "your face" looks.

All I can say is wow since having this car! I researched and drove countless models looking for an entry level luxury sport sedan. The Speed6 has everything I wanted whereas the competitors each had something I wanted but not everything. To summarize, the car is quieter than Acura TL and Infinity G35, faster and better handling than Accord or Lexus IS250 and more luxurious for the price than any other car I've driven for under around $30,000 or less.
Turbocharged engine for sure. Next would be quietness of cabin which lets you enjoy the nice stereo and the features the car is packed with for the price. I personally like the headlights and entire front end. And did I mention the turbocharged engine?
Just being nit picky but better lateral support would be nice in the front seats as well as a little better fuel economy. Also the clutch is good because it isn't super light but it seems a little hesitant to disengage when shifting quickly.
Went from 6S to SPEED6 - what a difference. This is a great car, lots of power, handles great in turns!

I've only owned my MS6-GT a week, but I've been dreaming of it for months. I thought the euphoria would have worn off by now, but no luck! Each drive is more enjoyable than the last. The MS6 is a real driver's automobile. The powertrain is responsive and highway driving is truly a joy. Other than the power pack & AWD, the biggest improvement over a M6 has to be the suspension and steering. The car is incredible at all speeds and driving conditions. Its especially fun to drive at high speeds through curvy roads and turns. My third Mazda, the MS6-GT has exceeded my expectations and reinforces my purchase decision. I highly recommend the MS6 to anyone needing zoom-zoom in their life!

Well, I just purchased this Speed6 and it is a trip to drive. It has incredible pick up. I used to drive a '95 Jetta, and its not nearly as gaudy as those racerboy Evo's and STi's. However, there is more to it than horsepower and torque. It looks good, the white exterior and black and white leather inside look stunning, in fact, today I was walking past a gentleman who had parked next to me in a parking lot, and he, talking to his daughter said, "man thats a nice Mazda." It is everything I wanted, powerful, fun to drive, and great looking. All this while maintaining the sleeper look that makes me like it so much.

I am 29 and happily married with the need for speed plus comfort, and let me tell you this car is satisfying my need very well. When you put it into 1st gear it will start slow till you get the RPMs into 2500 -- and that is where the fun (ZOOM-ZOOM) begins. It will push you back into your seat in every gear including the 6th. The thing that I like on it the most is when you cruising 75 M/H at 3K RPMs and there is a car that you like to pass. Well, an auto transmission would change a gear or two, not this boy. It will answer your foot with power even at the last gear. The inside controls are well designed, the Bose sound system works like the BOSE.

Summer tires on a vehicle that ships in the WINTER? Japanese idea of fun = going straight through red light on tires that stick to asphalt only not to fresh snow. Praying -- will I make it through or will this be my first accident. No power or height adjustment for the passenger? What is that about?
I was looking for an entry luxury car to begin with, but ended up buying the MS6. The awd grabbed my attention first. High performance awd vehicles are rarities. The MS6 provides the punch of an STi/Evo without the flashy in-your-face body style. And compared to the Audi and BMW, well you're paying 2/3 of the price for a comparable model with twice the performance. The MS6 also offers a much larger interior space than the competitors so the backseat riders won't feel discomfort. To sum it up, it's a practical family sport sedan with a lot of punch.

Just came out of a 2003 Mazda 6S 5 speed. My 1st (& last) FWD car. I have been waiting for the MAZDASPEED car for almost a year. Even though this car is still FWD biased it is head & shoulders a better driving experience than the regular 6. My only other issues with the previous car were the lack of power & kick panels. Both kept coming off . I'm still working through my break in period so I haven't gotten too outta control. I can't wait to get deep into the power and experience my new 4WD drift. I recently purchased an Acura MDX for my wife and the navigation is terrific! I think Fisher Price designed Mazda's system. I have liquid platinum exterior with black/white guts. Looks Bentlyesque!
One of the most beautiful interior combination I've ever seen, 280 lb/ft, active yaw, auto up/down windows all the way around, keyless entry, color flipping liquid platinum exterior, driver's seat, crossed drilled pedals, solid 6 speed shifter, pull in 6th gear.
Power passenger seat! Memory seating, adult navigation system, Bluetooth (everyone has it now), dual zone climate control, every enthusiast's car should come standard with at least 300hp & 300 lb/ft torque, 50/50 weight distribution, rear biased or adjustable awd system.
I work for Mazda. I've been waiting for this car for almost a year. I found out why they delayed it. Still in break in period. I love the car. Anticipate poor tire wear. Few choices for replacement.
Stealth, Bose, heated leather, 6 speed.
I picked up my new MS6 in late December for my local dealer. They were very reluctant to deal on the price due to the scarcity and performance of this auto. I have been reading about the MS6 for about 5 months before I picked mine up and knew I was going to love it because I really enjoyed the normal 6. Being a taller individual and a hockey goalie, I need adequate space for myself and my hobbies. I am not a family man yet, but I could see this as a great, sporty, family zoomer. I was reluctant against leather, but the MS6 has great quality leather that is tightly wrapped giving a very comfy ride and feel. The power is amazing with virtually no turbo lag and the cornering redefines "on rails"
My ultimate selling feature on the MS6 is the fact that Mazda deems it a "sleeper" and a "grownup's" vehicle. The interior is not too flashy and gives off a very sophisticated feel. The body styling is similar to the 6 but with enough differences to make people look twice as you hammer the red line
This sedan is one that Mazda got right ... again. The improvements to the 6 are amazing and truly define zoom zoom. I am thrilled to own one and the only improvement I would make is to have a better subwoofer, but hey, not everyone likes my bass!
My all time favorite car was my 97 Mazda Millenia S with the Miller cycle turbo. I traded it for a 2000 Lincoln LS, & spent 6.5 years with performance disappointment. Sure, it was comfortable, but what about the get up & go? Well after watching and waiting for Mazda to come up with something similar to the Millenia S, out comes Speed6. I couldn't wait to drive it and see if it brought back the memories. Sure enough Mazdaspeed6 delivers. The look is different then the Mazda 6, and more like the Millenia was. Especially the rear end. The Grand Touring has almost all of the luxury goodies I am used to from the Lincoln, except auto head lights & auto windshield wipers & preset seat position.
The sporty ride. The 18 inch wheels. The Bose sound. The keyless entry and Keyless start. The berber floor mats. 4 cupholders up front and 6 CD's in dash. That surge at 3,000 RPM,& tons of storage inside doors and center console.
The lumbar support control is a little hard to reach while maintaining the seating position required to set lumbar. Would be nice to have power lumbar control. The "extra" auto rearview mirror with compass should be standard on the Grand Touring.
I used to own a Mazda6i, but when the MS6 came out I couldn't resist. It is quite simply one of the all time best cars I have ever driven, let alone owned. Its performance is mind blowing and handling is sensational. My only complaints are the high clutch take up point, and the lack of top end power, but it really doesn't matter when you have that much torque and traction.

We purchased a MZ3 5 door 3 months ago; while searching MazdaUSA for accessories, I happened on the MS6. OMG! I had to have the car! I immediately called the dealership, the car was not due to arrive in Anchorage, AK until a month later. I purchased the vehicle prior to driving it as it was shipped with summer tires, but a couple days later the dealer had installed studless snow tires, and I finally got my test drive. Having owned an '88 Mazda MX-6 that I sold this year, which was purchased new, I know Mazdas are excellent products! I was not disappointed in any way. The comfort, ride, handling w/ all wheel drive is phenomenal. I expect to keep this car for 17 years at least!
I love the solid handling of this car, no matter the road surface. The stereo is awesome, the seats are the most comfortable I've sat in in some time!
The only thing I would like to see on future models is "heated windshield wipers". The cowling at the base of the windshield is rather deep, and heated wipers would greatly improve visibility in the snow, as the wipers ice up easily.
At some point, we all have to grow up a little - in my case, with the birth of my first child, I needed to move away from the 2 seat sports car I had been driving, to something with a usable backseat. I didn't want to compromise my driving pleasure, but wanted all the luxury amenities too. The MazdaSpeed6 adds another option to those thinking Acura TL, BMW 325i, Audi A4 or even Subaru Legacy GT Limited. I looked around at various models for some time, and finally decided on the MazdaSpeed6, which is the right blend of performance and luxury, in my opinion. The engine, albeit somewhat buzzy at revs, pulls like a freight train. The brakes are keen and the interior is sporty-plush.
Understated exterior appearance. There's no huge wing a la the STi or Evolution. But the 274 horses under the hood make their presence felt. The seats are very supportive and feel nice.
Sunroof included in the price of the vehicle, like Subaru's Legacy GT Limited. All-season tires installed on cars delivered in winter. Engine start button for the Advanced Keyless Start.
