2005 Mazda 6 Sedan s Sport 4dr Sports Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 5M)

Review

Owned my 2005 Mazda6s Sport with 6 speed automatic for about a year. My reason for not giving higher marks in performance and "fun to drive" is due to the poor throttle response - delay when the accelerator is aggressively pushed. This is one of Mazda's early attempts at an electronic throttle (i.e. driver doesn't have a mechanic connection with the throttle; the computer senses the throttle input of the driver's foot and then opens the throttle accordingly). I did take it to the dealership and received the computer software fix which improved the response somewhat; however, the existence of this fix is Mazda's acknowledgment of the problem.

Best Features

Exterior styling cool and sporty looking (still); not as big outside as competitors which is good for parking and maneuvering in traffic. Handling great balance between comfort and handling. Brakes are firm and easy to modulate; doesn't grab but can provide short stops. Build quality improved.

Worst Features

Improve the response of the electronic throttle under aggressive driving. A/C doesn't blow cold enough in sunny, hot Southern California; automatic A/C control could be improved. More power but that's coming with the new 2008 Mazda6's larger 3.5L engine. Better fuel economy but it is a V6.

Review

I love this car. I had the '03 4 cylinder and traded it in for the 05 with a V6 and it makes a world of difference. I liked that car, I love this one. With the V6, traction control, ABS and side airbags it is sporty, fast, safe and I won't get lost in the crowd.

Best Features

V6, handling, appearance & dual mode transmission.

Worst Features

Turning radius. smoother transmission.

2005 Mazda 6 Sedan s Grand Touring 4dr Sports Sedan (3.0L 6cyl 6A)

Review

Poor performance and reliability. New 6 speed constantly needs to be recalibrated. Ticking noise from valves requires valves to be retorqued. Throttle assembly went out, and now there is a knocking noise coming from the engine between 700 and 1200 rpm. Not a purge control solenoid as told by dealer and manufacturer. Let the buyer beware.

Best Features

Great looking car with interior and exterior styling.

Worst Features

Manufacturer needs to stand behind warranty and find the problem with the knocking engine and the new 6 speed transmission.

2005 Mazda 6 Sedan i Sport 4dr Sports Sedan (2.3L 4cyl 5M)

Review

It has a lot of pep when you need to get into traffic or getting on the interstate. It's fun to drive.

Best Features

It is a fun and fast car to drive. When I bought it I got it for my wife's birthday. Well she was excited when I brought it home. After about 2 weeks she wanted the Lexus back. So I drove the Mazda loving every minute. Now she is driving the Mazda and I can only drive it on weekends.

Worst Features

Needs more interior space. Also needs to have power seat on passenger side seat. All windows need to have one touch open.

2005 Mazda 6 Sedan i Sport 4dr Sports Sedan (2.3L 4cyl 5M)

Review

With more than 27k miles now, my mpg continues to increase. No matter how hard I beat the car, it still returns 28 to 29 mpg. I do agree that low end torque is a little lacking, but this thing loves to rev. Plus, keeping the tach between 2500 and 4500rpm does not effect mpg at all. I can't say enough good things about this car.

Best Features

Handling is awesome and back seat space is enough for two 6 foot adults, compared to the competition (i.e. TSX or 325i).

Worst Features

Could use a little cushion on the door armrest.
