Well, you do get a 5/10 year warranty with Kia. I finally got to drive a 6 S GT and really loved the car. It's quite at low RPM and the engine growls to live when I step on it. I gotta say it's many levels above my 2003 6 with the I4 engine. Mazda had the original MPV back in the late '80's and I believe it had a 6 cyl. Was that a Ford engine? The first Mazda MPV was 1990 I believe, or 89, I can't remember. Mazda used a 2.5L V6, which was a Mazda engine. Mazda used a Ford 2.5L in 1999 when they made the body change, and upgraded to the 3.0L in 2002 or 2003
Welcome 'ext123' to being a new Mazda 6 owner. The Mazda 6 is the "best kept secret of the mid-size sedan class" Owning a "6" means you like to be a little different, like a sporty drivers car and doesn't follow the boring Camry/Accord crowd over the cliff. I own an 07 6i 5-door and love it. I only wish the current series offered a 5-door again. I had a 2003 ... Read More
The dealer that takes your car in trade will re-furbish it and sell it at a profit. If he can make a 2000 dollar profit, that is wonderful for him, and that is why he is in the car business. I would avoind Mazda at all cost. They have changed from best to worst. Just check the former Mazda Service Manager who added his thoughts here.
The book hours for engine replacement is 20 hours. I doubt your dealer is only charging $85/hr, but maybe. I used a local mechanic who only charged me $50/hr ($1000) and he took a bath on the job. The service manager at the local Mazda dealer is the one who told me the "new" $6500 engine was remanufactured.
Interesting. May I ask how you know this (i.e. that the "new" Mazda engine they are offering is, in fact, a remanufactured one? Also, Mazda is charging $1700 for installation. If I decide to get the engine from Powertrain, do you recommend I go to Mazda to install it because they know the engine well, or would it be better to go to a different mechanic who would probably charge less? ... I should also add, if you were to buy a "new" engine from Mazda they would supply you with a remanufactured one.
I'm thinking about getting a new engine from Mazda. The reasoning being, if I get a new engine instead of just buying another used car, at least, hopefully, I'll have an engine that will last me for the next 4-5 years (which is as long as I would like my car). The Jasper engines seem kind of expensive and appear to be similarly priced to the new engine that Mazda can ... Read More
Jasper is REALLY expensive. I bought mine from Powertrain Products. Engine for my 2004 V6 was around $3000. If your blown engine lost any oil, it probably ended up in the front cats, which will also need to be replaced, and you might as well do the clutch while you are at it. Mazda customer service is absolutely the worst, hands down.
I got my used engine for $1200.00 and changed it myself. Mazda wanted $5000.00. I got the engine on Car-Parts.com. Engine worked great for 30,000 miles and then blew again. Now I have another engine with a 50,000 mile warrnty. Mazda has a clear problem here with the Mazda 6 and the CX 7. and is doing nothing to help. However, I'm busy during the week, so I ... Read More
I started this thread. I resolved it this way. I asked Mazda to offer me a fair trade in value on my car, and in turn I would lease a Mazda3 from them. Best they could do for me was 2K. The local Honda dealer offered $3600 and I now have a Civic.
Bommarito Mazda in Ellisville, mo -- and the deal did include the owner loyalty rebate. I had to have my existing mazda6's registration and proof of insurance for the form that they filled out. I don't know about the overseas Mazda6, but here in the states that seems to be a well known problem associated with the PCV valve malfunctioning. I know it's probably a waste of time, but you can see if the place you bought it from will do anything for you.
I have owned Mazda from 1999. Started with a Protege ES and then moved to the 2003 Mazda6s. Reliability wise it has been no different than any other car in the near and distant family members. Both cars aged very well. The 2003 Mazda6s is still with me and as of now no intentions of giving it away
I for one wouldn't consider buying a Mazda with Ford Drivetrains! There was a report earlier this year U are sleeping my friend.....MAzda6 has been using the Ford Duratec Engine since 2003 with no notable problems whatsoever.
We just need to be aware that Mazda's most important priority isn't quality. You remind me of another poster who dished out abuses about the 2003+ Mazda6 just like this.......he even started a process to sue Mazda for the "rust" problem...
My Mazda is 2004. It took them until 2007 model to get an average rating in CR. This was because they were clubbing the old piece of junk 626 reliability data with the 2003+ Mazda6.
This car has given me more problems that all my previous cars combined, which were all fords. Sorry if that upsets people with emotional feelings towards their car. I am sure u do realize that this 2003-2008 Mazda6s (v6) was made by Ford in the USA by the UAW. The v6 engine is also a pure Ford block with the head tuned by Mazda to make it peppy / rev happy. ... I would suggest you look at data after 1999, when they came out with the new Protege then. The 1999+protege has excellent reliability, the 2003+ Mazda6 has excellent reliability, and so does the Mazda3. If a company is doing all the right things to make a ... Read More

I had about 145,000 miles on it when a red-light runner crashed into it and ‘totaled’ it. It was one of the more enjoyable cars I had owned until now. My replacement car for the ’87 Mazda was ... It is more accurate to compare sales numbers from year to year, not from month to month. Every car manufacturer experiences seasonal trends, so showing that seasonal trend when comparing numbers from month to month really doesn't show anything. That's why when you see publications looking at sales numbers, they look at what the Mazda6 did in January 2003 versus what it did in January 2004. That is a far more ... Read More

I posted several details about the recall in the Mazda6 topic. Many owners have complained of a fuel odor inside the vehicle. The recall is to inspect all 2003 Mazda6's (all 2004's in Canada) for incorrectly installed seals above the fuel tank, just below the rear seat. Mazda has found that some of the seals were installed incorrectly and could allow gasoline fumes to exit the fuel tank and enter the ... Read More
I purchased my Mazda6i (no sport package) on May 19, 2003. At that time, the only offer from Mazda was 2.9% financing for 60 months--no cash back. I'm not sure how many weeks after my purchase the cash back/0% financing started, but it wasn't many.
Own a 2003 Lapis blue Mazda6s, 3000 miles. So far no rust issues, slight drift to left with steering. One dealership informed me he has had other owners complain of this problem and that Mazda has not provided him proper specs to allign the car correctly. Also, rear view defroster weak. Otherwise, I have been very happy with my purchase. Love the V6 power, glad I chose it over the 4 ... Read More
Dealer text on fuel odor recall: CONDITION OF CONCERN On subject vehicles, the fuel tank lock ring, which holds the fuel pump in the fuel tank, and/or the fuel pump seal, may have been installed improperly. In some cases, this may result in a fuel odor from fuel leaking from the fuel pump area, causing fuel accumulation. OK, I heard some more information on the recall. The recall affects 2003 Mazda6 models built between 10/2/02 to 8/6/03. It will call for an inspection of the fuel system, particularly through the access panel underneath the rear seat. If your fuel system is determined to be leaking, replacement parts will be ordered. If your fuel system is leaking, it is more than likely leaking small amounts of gasoline fumes, possibly ... Read More
I was just perusing the Mazda USA site (shedding tears over Miata's), and I noticed Mazda has upped the ante in financing. These finance deals are as good as they are going to get. All 2003 models (including 2003 & 2003.5 Mazdaspeed Protege) have 0% APR for 60 months AND no payments for 6 months. The truck has 0% for 72 months and 6 months deferred payments, or 0% for 60 ... My current car is dying. Looking to buy new. I've narrowed it to 2 models. The 2003 6 is heavily discounted. Ostensibly, itsa heckuva deal. A great handler and superb crash test results. Problems? The rust issue (will it appear or won't it?) and resale. So I'm also thinking about the Ford Focus--same 2.3L engine, same tranny, a few grand less. But it's smaller and much less prestigious..........the thing is, I ... Read More
I spoke to the service department to get the status of my repairs for my breakdown. I am the only 2003 Mazda6 owner this has happened to. They are replacing the oil pump as a precaution. A Mazda Representative has been notified and a notice will be going out to all Mazda Service Departments to check this bolt/nut when cars go in for maintenance. I am very pleased with the Service ...
