2012 Mazda 5 Grand Touring 4dr Minivan (2.5L 4cyl 5A)
With a newborn and 4 year old we ran into the issue that you have NO ROOM for a 5th passenger in a standard car with the 2 car seats,
(we had a Civic and a Outback Wagon).
Looked around for somthing to carry the occasional 5-6 passengers and found a limited market.
Considered the standard Odessey/Sienna and even the RAV4 with tiny back bench.
Anyway...the full size vans seemed to be overkill and were reaching 40K so I looked at the 5.
We love it.
Comfortably fits six, drives like a sporty sedan and fits in the tightest spots.
Looks small on the outside but is roomy inside.
We went with the Grand Touring edition, a little overpriced for what you get but the overall package is still a great value.
Love the moonroof, audio system, wheel mounted controls and blue tooth.
Great visibilty and our 5 year old son likes the sliding doors, as does the dog.
We are averaging 23-25 mpg in mixed driving 30-32 mpg highway.
We did pick up a thule rack and a sears cargo box
trips and do just fine.
Could use a tad more storage space up front for change and what not.
Also think the cd player should play MP3 discs but usually just use the media jack.
We're also thinking of the same for 2 kids + 40 lb dog.
I'm wondering if our dog would be able to fit on the floor of the middle row, depending on how far back the middle row seats slide?
Just thinking of road trips when the 3rd row is folded down for luggage.
How's the mpg with the cargo box on top?
