Vehicle2012 Mazda 5 Touring 4dr Minivan (2.5L 4cyl 5A)
ReviewMy wife and I shopped around for a month trying to find a replacement for our aging Odyssey.
Wanted better gas mileage, room for 6, and best value for the money stayng in the low to mid $20k range.
We found that in the Mazda 5. Was the first we test drove and the one we bought.
Considered RAV-4 with 3rd row, Sedona with 3rd row, Dodge Journey, Odyssey, Traverse, Equinox, and others.
Best FeaturesThis rides comfortably like a car. It feels familiar when driving not sluggish like a SUV or minivan. Inside feels like a van and outside moves and parks like a car. This combo is fantastic. If you pay attention to your driving style, gas mileage is better than rated. It has real-time MPG display and we can manage 30+ with mixed driving.
Worst FeaturesWe love the unfolding middle seats with storage under it, wish more of the seats had that. Rear air controls are available but only offer AC, no heat. The engine power is sufficient but fully loaded on hills is more challenging - a turbo or V6 option would be nice, but I would likely stay with the 2.5l for better mpg anyways.
