Hi, I am a new member, and we also have the same problem. We bought 08 Mazda 5 new in May 2008. The clutch failed last week in the middle of the highway with only 20,382 on the odometer. We didn’t notice any “hitch”, but the clutch started to slip a week before. This is not our first MT car, and we never had any problems with our old cars.
Hello and welcome. Oil consumption is not a normal issue among Mazda5s. Did you buy your MZ5 brand new? If not, the previous owner may have not taken care of maintenance properly thus you are having engine oil consumption issues. If you did buy it new and always kept up with maintenance. Maybe it is leaking oil and you have not noticed or who ever is doing the maintenance is using ... Read More
I could have written your posting; I just had exactly the same situation occur on our 2008 Mazda5 (but at 61k - 1,000 miles over the warranty). No warning lights. Nothing; just total engine failure with an explanation that the car had no oil when checking the dipstick. It was just unbelieveable to us. Can you tell me what the outcome was in your situation? Did Mazda pick up the bill ... Read More
I bought a used 2008 Mazda5 with just under 36,000 miles on it. This is my first Japanese branded car and in summary, I'm unimpressed. This replaced a 1996 Olds Cutlass with 185K miles on it. The Mazda's engine seems OK and gives some nice zip for a 4 cylinder, but my 6 cylinder Olds gave smoother power and fuel mileage. In comparison, the Cutlass averaged about 26 MPG. The Mazda ... I've owned an older Sienna (2000) and a Mazda 5 (2008), and loved both of them. Hi All, Several local Mazda dealers have 2008 model Mazda5's that have not sold since they arrived at the lot. I have been told by both dealers that the reason is that there is no A/C. My understanding is that the Mazda5's "average" reliability is mainly due to the 2006 recall. Is it confirmed that the Zafira is coming? Thaaat is a sweet ride. Seen it in Europe, it is just great. funny thing it does not have sliding doors, which is a big plus on the Mazda5 IMO. 2008s are selling well w/o marketing so I'm almost sure the 2009 will make it here. As per power doors, the standard ones are so light I doubt they will have them, also, ... Read More
I understand that for some owners stability control is essential, that is what I'm reading in this thread, yet if we do some homework you can see the numbers speak by themselves with regards to sales. These numbers come with ZERO marketing for the car. Mazda is happy that the Mazda5 sells on its own (mostly word of mouth), so not too bad sales after all huh? Yes, it is a ... Read More
I dunno how much it would help but here is my crash tests answer: coolmazda5, "2008 Mazda5 Safety Question" #2, 2 Mar 2008 7:12 pm I live in the Northeast US. It is not as radical weather as St Louis but still moderate snow/slush/freezing rain. Given that is based on the Mazda3 and is a Mazda I see ESC and Traction Control as a nice to have but not a must ... Read More
No NHTSA, but in the rest of the world is great. The agencies mentioned are really tough so my worries are dissipated: coolmazda5, "Mazda 5 vs Kia Rondo" #241, 8 Nov 2007 4:23 pm
Oh, you are back :D, I thought you were a troll given how the topics came and went. Good to know its a real you then. My bad Isnt' the 1.6 CRDi i30 a Hyundai? If yes, stereotypes maybe, but that is a turn-off to me (and looks smaller anyway). You either want to seat 7 very small passengers, you don't use toddler seats or you don't have a compact garage. ... Read More
a lot got lost when the Mazda5 first shipped to NA in 2005. Overall the appearance seems the same. Yet with no Traction, DSC, diesel, 6 spd... what else is missing! Most auto glass has UV protection so less tint is fine. In fact it is easier to see brake lights ahead through the car/van. Do all SUVs really come standard with dark tint? Seems to me that not offering factory ... Read More
I won't jump into conclusions on which car has faired better based on this number until I see a trend but, to me, this means that if you are still on the market for a compact people mover the facelifted 2008 Mazda5 is worth taking a look at (as there is no advertising for it really). Are there any numbers for the US 2008 Rondo available? It would be interesting to ... Read More
Have you guys seen this add on ebay? http://cgi.ebay.ch/MP3-Player-for-MAZDA-M6-M5-M3-MX5-RX8-CX7-MPV-Premacy_W0QQite- mZ350013456363QQihZ022QQcategoryZ3293QQcmdZViewItem This looks like the ticket. I did a money converter and it prices out at a little less than $60.00-US
Howdy, I am first time poster and long time observer, and a new Mazda5 Grand Touring 2008 owner. What you described is exactly the difference between throttle-by-wire vs wire systems. Part of the solution to lower emission and fuel efficiency is to minimize sudden throttle change, and by golly, throttle-by-wire is a great place for manufacturer to do this. It happens in BMW, it happens in Mazda. There isn't much you ... Read More
Price quotes updates (from San Francisco Bay Area): Menlo Mazda: 19,300 Fremont Mazda: 18,536 Oakland Mazda: 18,436 (used to be 19,003 before I showed them the offer from Fremont) Both are out-of-door prices. Should I grab the best one now or do you think the price of '08 Mazda5 sport MT will be significantly lower after mid-year? I planned to buy the car when it first came out, but I am ... Read More
Min (nihao4587): I paid a few hundred more (selling & total price) around new years for my 2008 Mazda5 Sport with manual transmission. The fees and tax sound about right. I was happy with my buying experience at Menlo Mazda (Redwood City). Please check in after you purchase and let us know how you did.
Has anybody managed to get/order 2008 Mazda 5 with MT in color other than gray, silver or red? I tried to order blue 2008 Mazda5 with manual transmission (MT) today in local dealership (Columbus, OH). I was told that Mazda5 with manual transmission is only available in gray, silver or red. The 2008 Mazda5 brochure indeed states so as a footnote, but I can configure blue Mazda 5 with MT at ... Read More
Agreed, I have not seen a high drop in advertising for the Mazda5 since I got my first one (06) back in 05. I just got a 2nd one (08) and mostly based on current experience, the word of mouth and the news on the Web, nothing else... Still, I love both with that Manual Tranny :) I believe that we may need more trending numbers to draw the conclusion that ... Read More
The Mazda5 is hardly advertised in the USA, so that no doubt accounts for the poor sales here.
I don't really trust the volume measurements given out by Mazda or Kia. The best thing to do is to get out the old tape measure and to measure both vehicles. Of course, who has done that? Not me. I've read in another forum about someone selling a washer and dryer set. The seller recounted how the buyer came by in a Rondo and was surprised that the buyer could fit ... Read More
There are definitely more and more cars taking up this design philosophy and I think it works well. as far as the differences between the Rondo and Mazda 5 goes, I just don't think they are that much different. I t somewhat reminds me of the late 80s with cars like the Ford Taurus competing with the Honda Accords at the time. The Ford was a little bigger here and there ... Read More
cargo room behind the 2nd row Rondo 31.7 Mazda5 44.4 Mazda figures on 2007 for storage was very strange and same on the Canadian site, but now they seem more realistic with the 2008 information as they now state 70.9 cu.ft. with the 2nd and 3rd seats folded which makes more sense when I had actually measured both vehicles. The Rondo is 73.4 cu.ft. for the same area. Passenger cargo room ... Read More
I agree, some car designs create legroom for front and back occupants by virtually making the occupants to sit straight up. Imagine you are sitting on a stool at a bar, your legs are dangling towards the floor instead of resting your feet on the floor with your knees banded at 90 degree. With legs elongated and extended downwards, less lateral room is required. The side effects are less comfortable sitting ... Read More
From the manufacture webpages: Rondo:Legroom (front/middle/rear) 41.3 in./38.2 in./31.3 in. Mazda 5 Leg Room, front/2nd/3rd row (inches) 40.7/35.2/30.7 cargo room behind the 2nd row Rondo 31.7 Mazda5 44.4 So there is more legroom in the Rondo, but the opening in the 2nd row of the Mazda5 between the two seats might make is seem less cramped than with the Rondo's 2nd row bench. Plus I doubt if the Rondo's 3rd row ... Read More
kech, I believe the photo is a good thing and can see you observation. I Like how the driver appears to be relatively short. Only thing I can point out as a Mazda5 owner is that the legroom in a little different than we traditionally think about in the 5. It is the same what with my Toyota ECHO and also with a Mazda 3 that I had for a loaner. ... Read More

I have contemplated that for at least 5 months of the year maybe and become a snowbird. I attempted to contact my "investigator" at Mazda Canada but he has since moved out of this position, and it appears they closed my file. Why they would close it when they knew the fix they applied was only temporary until they came up with a permanent fix (if ever). Now that I have ... Read More
Would this help? Close enough to get most of the 2008 model info (from Mazda USA, including pricing): http://www.mazdausamedia.com/products/presskit_display.cfm?vehicle_id=1638&press- - _subsection_id=421&make_id=227
Hmmm, more Mazda5s sold than in the US actually ;) Given the availability time for the 2008 mazda5 in NA (US and Canada) reality seems that the Mazda5 is not a Mazda business priority (marketing-production-sales) for these 2 markets (i.e. cash cow like the Mazda3) Take a look of the numbers for Mazda in general, a different story. Also, my theory is that there may not be more significant sales of ... Read More
I just purchase a week ago a 2008 Rondo EX 5-seater with the 2.4L 4-cylinder (Canadian model). The performance of this engine is outstanding and for my purpose I could see no reason to purchase a V6. It out-performs my previous vehicle, which was a '86 Old Cutlass Ciera with a 2.8L V6! I also considered the Mazda 5, but in my case I did not like the sliding rear door ... Read More
Wonder when the US is going to start getting 2008 models? The latest on the Mazda5: eilros, "Rondo vs Outlander/Rav4/Santa Fe/Mazda5" #218, 24 Oct 2007 2:20 pm
Agreed - very good news. Kudos to Mazda for spending money where it counts. Wonder if they'll improve the center console, too? Offer a 7 seat model?
conwelpic, I was told by a Mazda USA rep that the US website will be updated with 2008 info on November 14th. My local Mazda dealer said they expect to start receiving the 2008 in late Jan-early Feb.
