I knew TC and SC are available (if not standard) in Europe on Mazda5 ... they dumbed down the car for North America. Rats. Disappointing. I sent an e-mail to Mazda asking if 07 Mazda5 will have TC and SC and they replied back "the features of 07 model year are not known at this time". Yeah, right. I don't know if they will have TC or Sc in the 07's but if you look at Mazda's philosophy of producing "driver's cars" I would suspect the answer will be no! Having said that $1000 spent on advance drivers training is a much better investment than the $400 for SC ot TC on 1 car as that knowledge stays with you. Check out post 504 about the safety of the 3rd row seats. Mazda states that the Mazda5 meets the upcoming (2007 I think) 50 mph rear collision requirements. If you do a search for "crash", there are several postings in regards to the crash results on the Mazda5 Read More...

I hope Canada gets the 6speed diesel, if so that means the US market is right behind it. I am holding out for 2007 to find the light duty diesel car that I will sit on for a while. I really hope it will be the Mazda5, as it has all the right ingredients. John Read More...

Hmm...... Remember that whereas the PTcruiser and the Chevy HHR were created for the US market, the Mazda5 was not designed primarily for the US. US spec Mazda5s are 95% Japanese parts designed for Asia and Europe. We get western Europe models with a bigger engine and an auto tranny dropped in (probably the cause for our recall). According to a Mazda online blurb, 70% of the Mazda5's sold in Japan early this year right after introduction were ordered with power doors. However, MazdaUSA says power doors won't be available in North America for the current 2006 model year. But who knows, if the demand is there, might they make them available for the 2007 model?
