Very fun to drive on long, windy roads. Very easy to get kids in and out of. Good fuel economy. Poor quality radio, almost no bass. Also, when you eject a CD, you have to hit insert to get another one in. On my Ford Focus, it prompts you insert another - one less button to push when you are driving. After we got it, we had problems with the rear sliding doors. Wator vapor got into the locks and froze, making it impossible to shut them, they would hit the latch and bounce back. Mazda replaced under warranty. Brakes sounds like a freight train when you back out of the driveway in the morning - very loud and annoying!! I do not think I would purchase a Mazda again. Just not too impressed.

Favorite Features

Navigation system.

Suggested Improvements

Brakes!!

I swore I'd never drive a minivan but here I am doing so and actually enjoying it. It is versatile and very easy for the kids to get into and out of by themselves. It gets good gas mileage even in the cold winter months. I have never gotten below 22 mpg on a tank of gas. I love the fact that it is getting more popular and that when I first got it, people were asking me what it was. I love all the spaces to hide things in. I've been accused of having everything but a toilet and sink in it but you won't see any of it. If you live in a really snowy/icy climate you will want to get snow tires. Stock tires perform as expected on the snow but are next to useless on ice.

Favorite Features

Versatility, gas mileage and all the little spaces to hide things.

Suggested Improvements

Paint (it stains and scratches very easily), more peppy engine, improve the reception on the radio, tinted rear windows, AWD option, Xenons option, remote opening of sliding doors (although the existing doors are easy to open) option.

The Mazda5 is a great care for the money! It handles the road really well and has a great turning radius so it is easy to fit into smaller parking spaces!! It also gets great gas mileage. The only problem we had, and thought we might, is the low profile tires. They don't absorb much shock so if you happen to hit a big pothole, it will probably bend your wheel. (this happened to us) Also one of the tires is wearing from the inside out. We will replace the wheel and get better tires. Hopefully this will not be a repetitive problem.

Favorite Features

Sporty feel for a "minivan". Drives more like a car. Easy to get in and out. Sliding doors nice for kids!!

Suggested Improvements

Better tires - maybe not so low profile. Armrest for the front passenger. A/C in the rear.

Have put on 2,700 miles in the past several months. Very much enjoy this car. You can get a surprising large amount of stuff in this thing!

Favorite Features

Front end styling.

Suggested Improvements

Better rear end styling. Would also be nice with a "performance" diesel engine and AWD.

After tons of research, with all my basic needs and wants listed, I narrowed my choices to about 15. Then the hard work of getting in them and checking them out. At my age, um, senior granny, it wasn't fun and games getting in and out of all those vehicles! My highest priorities were: ease of entry, comfort, mileage and a flat cargo space to use when I go camping which could double for sleeping space if necessary. Once I saw the Mazda5 I was hooked in every way plus it looks great, feels wonderful, and is so roomy for my needs. How perfect for me. I'm one happy camper! I purchased aftermarket leather for just the two front seats which serves my purposes very well!

Favorite Features

Love the tiny turning circle. Also love the flat surface near the gear shift where I can attach my GPS. Mileage is much better than my previous car. The low hatchback threshold makes it easy for me to load up. Sliding doors on both sides! Wonderful!

Suggested Improvements

Grey or tweed carpet would hide dirt better than the black. My passenger in front should have armrests. Maybe a few more tie downs. Otherwise a great investment. Thanks Mazda!

I am picky about my cars, and this one seemed like a no-brainer. It handles like a non-minivan, make me look younger than my late thirties, holds everyone in my family and then some, hauls all our camping gear, and gets great mileage. This is one of the hidden secrets of autodom.

Favorite Features

Sliding doors, seat belts for six but quickly a home depot run-about with the pull of two handles, averaged 30 mpg on a road trip from MA to NC! Nice, high seating position. Auto climate control in a $19,000 vehicle?! Compare features with others, and you'll see the V-A-L-U-E.

Suggested Improvements

More hp as long as mpg doesn't change. Need more towing capacity.

I wanted a vehicle that was fun to drive and was flexible in its cargo carrying capacity. The manual transmission Mazda5 fit this bill perfectly.

Favorite Features

The 17" wheels with an available manual transmission caught my eye. But it's the versitility that is most appreciated.

Suggested Improvements

More horsepower. But the manual transmission makes it feel quick and sporty.

Boy, was I hooked once behind the wheel and test-drove it. Unlike others who say it's noisy and underpowered, I find it quiet on the freeway at 65 mph. Power is also adequate, get to 90+mph pretty easy. Boy, it has incredible handling ability, tight and sharp turns, takes any turns. Excellent braking ability and comes standard with side curtain airbags for all passengers. Boy, a lot of storage and storage for 2 laptops under the 2nd row seats! I am loving it! Turning circle is also small, parking lots parking is extremely easy. Fit my 26" road bicycle too!!!

Favorite Features

17 inch alloys rims, sporty suspension, sport shift for AT, incredible handling ability, storages, sporty look, clever space usage, powerful brakes, price, being quiet, light sliding doors, easy-to-open hatch, great visibility. The wow factor for the money spent!!

Suggested Improvements

The passenger front seat is without an armrest. I don't know why, but it is odd. Also, use longer armrest and the headrests of the front seats are not as good as the two row seats' behind, but I fix it with aftermarket headrests. Could use a Mazdaspeed5... doesn't hurt (hee..hee..).

2007 Mazda MAZDA5 Grand Touring 4dr Minivan (2.3L 4cyl 4A)

Review

This is hands down THE BEST car you can get for $20K or under. WOW! I got a Grand Touring trim with nice leather, 6-disk CD (great sound btw), Xenon lights with adjustable angle (are you serious?), moonroof, cool pocket-knife style keys w/remote entry, etc, etc. Can you find another car on the market at this price with all these features? I traded my 98 Suburban for this thing in a heartbeat! Drove my first 180 miles and barely at half tank, thatÂ’s only 7 gallons! There are few oversights by Mazda. The biggest one being the lack of front passenger armrest. What? Did someone spill coffee on that part of the blueprint at Mazda design team meeting? But overall, it is AWESOME!!!

Favorite Features

Style, value, design! second row legroom, gas mileage, dual sliding doors, flat-folding seats,

Suggested Improvements

Front passenger armrest! MP3 disk playback or aux jack, needs "fin" antenna.
