I fully believe it is a computer problem. I felt uneasy buying a new tranny. When I disconnect my battery it resets and my car shifts thru all 5 gears for awhile. then goes back to the gear 3 incorrect ratio. If it was tranny, wouldn't it not be able to shift at all? Or am I wrong? I took my car out of the shop before replacing transmission, had to ... Read More
The AT light now stays on and the Manual gated shifter doesn't work ... code ... came up as P0715 P0715 = Input/Turbine Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction My mechanic gave me the option to get it check out by the Mazda dealer. You need to find a real mechanic- not just some guy who throws parts at the problem. Mazda has a specific troubleshooting procedure for each fault code, and that procedure needs to be followed.
Congrats on the new ride! Mazda revised their option packages and standard features for 2011. They made it so that the s Sport 4-door or 5-door with A/T could include all the features of a loaded Grand Touring, with the exception of leather seats, power driver's seat and automatic climate control. I hate leather and I find automatic climate control incredibly annoying! I'd much rather choose my own fan speed, temp ... Read More

A dealer here in the Atlanta area has one remaining 2010 Mazda3 s Grand Touring 4-door in stock and they've had it on the lot for at least 10 months! Mazda increased the base price of this model from $21,500 to $21,645 as of 04/01/2010 and this car has the $21,500 base price. It also has the door-mounted rearview mirrors with the turn-signal flasher built-in, which was included on early production ... Read More

I'm so annoyed about the tire wear issue... When my 2006 Mazda3 needed tires at 20k, I said huh? My old Civic used to get 80k out of a set... mazda ... too many probems with their transmissions Curious. In the April 2010 Consumer Reports Auto issue the 2007 Mazda 3 transmission is top rated (that is, it "had relatively few problems compared with other models"). In fact, the transmission seems to be consistently rated highly from 2006 to 2009. The automatic transmission on my 2002 Mazda Protege5 (precursor to the Mazda3) continues to work flawlessly after 80K miles.
I had a Mazda 6 and a Mazda 3, both 2006's. We bought them both on the same day. When Mazda introduced the 2008.5 "refresh", the Canadian market got a base GX 5-door with the 2.0L engine. It was pretty basic in standard form (15" steel wheels, manual windows/locks, no rear spoiler) but they offered an option package that included power windows/locks, 15" alloys, and most basic convenience items. A/C was also optional. The Canadian version of the 2010 Mazda3 also includes a 5-door GX model with the 2.0L engine. ... Read More
Your comment about the rear seat in the Civic piqued my curiosity enough to do a little research. There's 1.6" more leg room, 1.2" more hip room, 1.7" more shoulder room and 1.3" more head room. Perception is everything and the Civic's back seat ... Read More

Tell me about it. My 2006 Mazda 3 hatchback just got 4 new tires due to the poor wear of the Goodyear Eagles. I had barely 20,000 on this car and did mostly inner-city driving. Well, the Elantra is NOT a five-year-old model. The current generation was introduced in the fall of 2006, so it's not quite 3 years old. But I think there are two main reasons for a price disparity: labor cost differential between Japan and ROK; and a costlier engine in the Mazda (modern aluminum high-output 2.0L engine vs. relatively ancient iron-block, lower-power 2.0L engine in the Elantra). I don't think there is ... Read More

Vehicle: 2006 MAZDA3 S, no pkgs, AT Well I have to say, this check engine light has become a bother. I'm NOT complaining like its the worst thing ever, but it is different when I'm used to never-failing Toyotas and Hondas. It's just a bother. So a month ago (7.18.06), my CEL came on and had it checked out ASAP. The problem was my Purge System Valve - causing rough idling. ... Read More
I found the Sept. 2006 Consumer Reports article on hatchbacks interesting also. Below is what I posted in the Protege5 forum. The Protege5 is the predecessor to the Mazda3 hatchback. In most cases the Mazda3 hatchback is a big improvement over the Protege5 but it looks like Mazda dropped the ball when it came to fuel economy since both automatics only get 25 mpg. Also, the Protege5 had an Excellent reliability ... Read More
I agree with luvmbooty that this is an apples/oranges comparison and also that the sonata is a fine auto. However, 3 important factors need to additionally be weighed if you're comparing cost. Fuel: The 3 is more fuel efficient. Warranty: though the sonata has an incredible warranty, it is not fully transferrable, and extended warranties are available for Mazdas at a pretty reasonable cost. and Depreciation: Hyundai autos have horrible depreciation,(Mazda ... The reason that I put a "?" In my title is the fact that no matter what is said those folks who do not like Mazda will find fault with this information. Let me quickly add that I do not own a Mazda 3 or any other Mazda automobile. I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata, that I like very much. But since Mazda has been taking such a shellacking in this forum ... Hi guys Proud owner of a 2006 Mazda3 Sport GT (Indigo Blue) here in Canada. My dream car :-) I've had it since May 11th this year and also got the Sirius Sat-Radio alongwith the car. Mazda installed it for me. However, I'd also like to plug an iPod Nano into the car. I know that there is no iPod integration in my car, but I was wondering if anyone knew ... Read More
The 2007 Mazda3 Sedans and Hatchbacks are starting to show up at dealers. I've been having an impossible time finding any information on these new models beyond what's on the Japan and Australia websites. I now have official documentation on the new models, packages, and pricing and have started this thread so that it can be discussed without all of the clutter from the previous 2006 topics. From the dealer: Mazda ... Read More
I am very surprised that there is absolutely no mention of this anywhere. But, at least I am happy that Mazda has made an improvement with their A/C in the mid to late production models of the 2006's; however, having just done a TSB mod from the dealer, where there is suppose to be some improvement when recycling the air, I am extremely disappointed at the outcome. The mod has not ... Read More
We just purchased a 2006 Mazda3 s hatchback last weekend in Hillsboro, OR. Before we went for the test drive, we started the engine & turned on the A/C at idle. Within 15 seconds, it was blowing cold. We have had no problems with the A/C in 100 degree weather with nasty humidity. Mazda got the A/C right with this unit & we love everything about the car.
As posted on another Mazda forum, there is a change in the airflow of the Mazda3 (2006) could be only for the 2.3L or not, have no info there. But, driving an 06 with a production date of 12/05 had very good A/C at level 1. If you have to have your A/C at level 2 or higher at temps below 90F, you have an A/C issue. And of course, the ... You can buy a NEW Mazda3s Touring 4dr Wagon with auto for under $18K. Is $4,000 less enough of a discount? Hard to say - but I would adjust the $4,000 to try and get your real savings. Some things to consider - Wear items - tires and brakes - for sure need to be looked at - if the used car needs these soon you should add them into the ... Read More
Greetings All, I can confirm this as i just yesterday had this problem repaired 7/18/2006 the code which the Check engine light generated in the computer was P2187 which according to the Mazda tech necessitated the replacment of the "Purge Valve" but all in all since I've had my 2005 SP23 the small quarky problems that I've expirenced has moved my Grade of the car from an A+ to a B+ ... I would agree with you on that, and there are reasons why. This issue (people not getting the EPA numbers) is posted about in nearly every single model forum on Edmunds. In short the EPA tests are broken and it is very likely that many vehicle owners will never achieve the EPA figures. How is the EPA test broken? Here are some highlights: Acceleration - The maximum acceleration rate in the ... Read More
I resently tried both cars and there was no comparison. The Jetta is by far the better car - ride, handling, quiteness, features. The materials used are of exceptional quality, fenomenal tiptronic transmition, huge trunk and one touch automatic up and down windows. Let's not forget heated seats. The Mazda3 is a compact car while the new Jetta feels more like midsize. This along with endless list of available features makes it more of a ... Read More
I have a 2006 Mazda 3 - i Touring and hate it. As soon as I get some cash saved up, I'm going to trade for an 07 Rabbit. I test drove the Rabbit and it's much more solid and quiet than the Mazda. I'm disappointed in the general feel of the Mazda. It feels very "cheap" compared to the VW. Also, huge amounts of road noise. German engineering is the ... Read More
Hi all, I am interested in a 2007 or 2006 Mazda 3 i Touring manual tranny w/ bose+monroof package, and side airbags. I am just wondering what a fair price would be for this car? $17,000 w/o tax, fees, etc.? Also, when do the 2007 models come out? Thx

"Isn't it amazing that their is 4 owners of the Mazda 3 working at the same place as you..." I agree with the honey and flies thing - but do you really think that being nice to the technicians at Mazda will get them to fix my crappy AC? The reality is some Mazda3's have very good AC systems - some are OK - and some are very poor. Its the luck of the draw which one you will get. This is true for the 2004, 2005 & 2006 model ... I also say this for the last time, those that tend to report praises or no complaints about their A/C either have one with auto climate control, have health issues where they feel typically cooler than the average person, or they have a personal interest in promoting or defending Mazda at any cost and are deliberately trying to negate the legitimate complaints about the Mazda 3 A/C in non auto climate ...
