2005 Mazda 3 Hatchback s 4dr Hatchback (2.3L 4cyl 5M)

Review

This is a fun compact that begs you to thrash it! Powerful (but thirsty) big 2.3L engine gets you there in a hurry ... great handling, and the looks of my 5 door turns a lot of heads. For $18,000 it's loaded with most of the goodies (everything but GPS and leather in mine). You really won't believe how much fun this car is!

Favorite Features

FUN FUN FUN and great looks ... very powerful engine, quick!

Suggested Improvements

Gas mileage disappointing ... everyday mileage combo is only about 24MPG. This car SHOULD be up around 30 for its class.

2005 Mazda 3 Hatchback s 4dr Hatchback (2.3L 4cyl 5M)

Review

Fun car to drive, peppy engine that loves to be pushed and comes alive at higher rpm`s. Gas mileage is so so with a heavy right foot even with a stick shift. If you live in a snow belt you better save $600 for a good set of snows as the Goodyear all season stink in winter driving. Cheap to insure.

Favorite Features

Looks good, fun to drive, safety features, good value for the money and 4 year 50000 mile warranty.

Suggested Improvements

Better tires, less road noise, maybe a bit more low end torque, more cargo space.

2005 Mazda 3 Hatchback SP23 Special Edition 4dr Hatchback (2.3L 4cyl 5M)

Review

In 25 years of car owning, this is by far the most fun car I have ever owned. After nearly two years of ownership, I still cannot believe I paid well less than $20k for a car that drives like a sports car. Acceleration is great, it's comfortable and quiet on my daily 45-minute combined city and highway commute (on which I average 29 MPG). I would buy this car over again in a minute. Previous cars: Two Accords, a Golf, and Rabbit.

Favorite Features

Acceleration and handling are top notch. Also love the radio controls on the steering wheel. The cloth seats feel great: just enough grip, but not too much. Cruise control, which I use everyday on the highway, works perfectly. Strong brakes. Honestly, cannot say enough good things about the car

Suggested Improvements

Hmmmm, honestly can't think of any...

Review

I really made the right decision with the charcoal grey 5 door S. Black leather, sunroof, 6 disk in dash, 17" wheels and a very nicely done interior make this car a pleasure. I have read about people's winter issues and I live in the NE and believe the fault is more the Goodyear tires that come standard. I recently put a set of Nokian WRs on the car and have had no problems whatsoever in the winter. The handling of this car is great! The feedback through the steering wheel keeps the driver in tune with the car at all times. One word for the car is tight! Int/Ext styling are sharp, hatchback holds a ton of stuff. Best car around for the money! Gets 28mpg with spirited driving. Go get one!

Favorite Features

Performance, handling, interior!

Suggested Improvements

Lose the Goodyear tires as standard equip. The rest of the car is perfect!

Review

Car handles great and has some nice options that are included. Power is lacking and intermittent - not what I expected from a 2.3L engine. Posted mpg on the 2.3 wagon is a joke - I average 20mpg. A few issues and the Mazda dealers don't want to deal with it and Mazda Customer Care line is useless also.

Favorite Features

Handling. Controls. Space.

Suggested Improvements

Mpg is very poor. Power is very poor. Mazda customer service is very poor.
