Review

I still love this car. Yes, it has a few flaws but at less than $20K it's a deal. As stated before me the car/tires leaves something to be desired in rain and even more so in snow and ice. Yokohamas may have been a better choice than the Goodyears. Get the ABS package! It's a lil' pricey but includes side and curtain air bags. Also, get the 6-CD changer even if you don't think you want it (as I did). I plan to install a 22mm rear anti-sway bar to reduce understeer. In spite of what others have said here, I have raced cars and any factory front driver understeers too much. I think 25-32 MPG is excellent for a car like this one ... any car really, and on regular 87 octane fuel too.

Favorite Features

Still LOVE the 17's though they are hard to clean.

Suggested Improvements

1. A/C is weak by today's standards. 2. Rear brake dust. Bring on the aftermarket pads ... PLEASE! 3. Better chosen factory tires. 4. Heavier duty rear suspension/springs 5. Factory fog lights are useless and non-adjustable.

Review

Bought it new. Have 19000 miles. Rear engine mount had to be replaced under warranty and a TSB performed on the driver's side front end. New tires about a month ago. Other than that, nothing but oil changes every 2500 miles which is about every 4 months at $21.95 (dealer with coupon) This engine loves the freeway! 420 miles on a tank of gas. Good visibility all the way around, seats offer good support, good ergonomics, weak A/C (blows cold but fan lacks speed, must run at 4 to get some air but then it's too loud). Mostly happy with it. Good platform, rev it up and you will be rewarded. For "coat hangar in the mouth" smile though, try the Speed3.

Favorite Features

Hatchback. Practicality is the name of the game.

Suggested Improvements

Home Link, 5 speed transmission, do something with the A/C,

Review

Bought new in July 2004. Very fun to drive, and it looks great for a 5 door wagon. Good amount of pep and corners flat with a lot of grip. Good cargo space, once fit an armchair in the back with the seats folded. Rear is a little tight with a rear facing child seat, but otherwise good for two adults. I'm 6'3" and fit very comfortably with only a little rubbing on the center console. MPG are a little less than expected, partly because it is so easy to drive fast. My 2004 only has a 4 speed auto so RPM are a little high on the freeway. Negatives include weak AC, high road noise, ride can be firm on broken pavement, only one intermittent wiper speed, tires are expensive to replace

Favorite Features

Confident handling, logical and easy to use/read controls and gauges, supportive seats, general utility, sporty yet grown up styling.

Suggested Improvements

5 speed auto, standard ABS and skid control (all available in later model years). More sound insulation, height and lumbar adjustments on the passenger seat. More MPG is always welcome.

Review

A fun car to drive with the optional 2.3 liter engine. I prefer manual transmission, but the automatic was good because of the manual shift feature. Fit and finish were very good. Good room (we had the hatchback), handing and steering tight and nimble. Only problem was with one window that quit working, but our local dealer fixed under warrantee with no issues. Local dealer experience very good. They offered free tires and battery for the life of the car if regular scheduled maintenance done. Good fuel economy, we actually got better than what's posted on the window sticker. A good car for the money, don't even bother with any comparable American-made compacts.

Favorite Features

Peppy engine, nimble handling, a good stereo system. Strong windshield Glass, resists flying Stone cracks better than other cars.

Suggested Improvements

Offer more manual cars, go with less power assist in the steering. Maybe offer a two door version to compete with Honda and scion coupes.
