Vehicle2007 Mazda CX-9 Touring 4dr SUV AWD (3.5L 6cyl 6A)
Reviewbought this thing about a month and a half ago and have since put almost 5,000 miles on it.
We researched EVERY 3rd row SUV out there and came through edmunds to get reviews on all.
In the end it was this or a nissan armada and we opted for the gas mileage and man has it paid off!!! compared to the Durago that we owned prior to this it goes twice as far on a tank of gas and it still has all the comfort of it.
We've put a 20" flip down in it for a cross country trip we're taking tonight actually and the trip doesnt worry me with the possibility of breaking down do to how well this vehicle is built. I HIGHLY reccomend this car!!
Best FeaturesGas milage!, super fun to drive around twisty roads, AWD, the 1/2&1/2 rear seat is a great plus, power front seats are awesome, great visibility at night, amazingly quiet and even more roomy :).
Worst Featuresthe one thing I suggest... Get the premium sound... we didn't and I think we're paying for it because the sound quality is very poor out of the unit. Think I'm actually going to find the BOSE surround from Mazda and have it installed sometime in the future. Other than that its a superb vehicle!

Update from last review: Have had this vehicle for just over a year now and I have to say It's held up VERY well. We've only had minimal maintenance done on it and are running mobil 1 synthetic in it. other than that we've just replaced the air filter. One thing I do recommend to everyone out there is keep an eye on your transmission fluid. Seems to get a little dirtier quicker for us and we're going to be scheduling a tranny flush. Tire life is good as we have put 10000 miles on the vehicle and still have 7/32nds of tire tread left on it. We have noticed that some of the inside trim pieces come of easily(mainly the middle seatbealt piece; it falls out every time someone buckles in pretty much). Also it seems to eat parking bulbs as well. the bright side works but when you turn on the parking lights they only seem to work for about a month after new bulbs are put in. We've registered an average of 19MPG driving around in it which is fair for a large SUV and have even fitted it with a class II receiver to hold up a rack for extra room on long trips. We have 3 girls so around town getting groceries is fine but extended trips require ALOT of extra room. We purchased a rack that fits into your hitch and mounted a plastic trunk to it that's weather-resistant. This works really well just be careful as when you begin going up or down hills/driveways there is very little room for clearance! highways are fine with it. Winter is a breeze in this car it seems. we were a little worried about the AWD system on it but it seems to be thought out extremely well as we haven't gotten stuck yet in the winter. (Keeping our fingers crossed). Minot, ND can be really nasty in the winter but you don't even really need a clock heater on this car either. It just seems to want to start up every time no matter how cold the temperature! I highly reccomend this car still but if you have kids just make sure you have the entertainment system (This helps A BUNCH). great family car and also drives with excellent road manners. For those of you looking for a true off road vehicle this isn't for you. on dirt roads and areas of rough road it tends to act more like a sports car with a stiffer suspension so you have to really slow down to make the ride comfortable for everyone. Anyways there it is... hope this helps anyone looking for this type of vehicle... great bang for the buck and exceptionally sound mechanically!Report it
