Summary

What Edmunds.com says

Cloning Ford's Ranger pickup to create the B-Series was a good idea. Giving it distinctive styling was a better one.

Pros

Numerous engine and body configurations, functional interior, impressive towing capacity.

Cons

Room in back of extended-cab area isn't enough for adults, still no V8.

What's New for 2001

More power is the big news for the ?01 B-Series. The B4000 boasts a new 4.0-liter SOHC V6, while the B2300 has a more-powerful 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine. The flexible-fuel feature on the 3.0-liter V6 has been dropped. To keep up with the additional horsepower, Mazda has made ABS standard on all models. The company has also created a new 4x2 Dual Sport trim level and modified every model's exterior and interior styling. To the chagrin of Troy Lee but probably nobody else, the B-Series Troy Lee edition has been dropped.

Review

This is the best truck I've had, better than a Ranger and cheaper. Handles well in all uses, hauls very well.

Favorite Features

Great looking truck, lots of interior room, view is great when you sit high. Will haul anything well, has great power.

Suggested Improvements

A little better gas mileage, rear mud guards need better design - they break off in cold weather.

I bought this truck with 68k on the dash. Now the truck has 98,450 and still kicking hard like the day I bought it. Nothing has gone wrong with it; it has held up very well. expecting another 100k out of her.

Favorite Features

The stock audio system is amazing. Lot of cab room, mine is an extended cab. VERY durable engine. Lots of torque for its displacement. Long service intervals.

Suggested Improvements

Transmissions needs to be smoother. next better sensors. pinging issues.

Review

I've only had this truck a month; bought it used at 46,000 miles and it has been working well though the dashboard lights seem to come on sometimes when nothing is wrong - i.e. 'door ajar' when not ajar, etc. But overall this is a great truck.

Favorite Features

Stereo is awesome. Interior room is great up-front, coffeholders are sweet as is the arm rest with change holders. Love the look and feel of the car. Car is 'high' for its size.

Suggested Improvements

Mileage could use some work.

Review

I have had this truck for a little over 2 years now and am very happy with it. I bought it with 30,000 miles on it and it now has 64,000. I have not had one problem with it and it still has the original tires. All that I do is oil changes. I currently get around 26 to 27mpg in mainly city driving. I have gotten as high as 33mpg on the highway before (55- 60mph). You can easily get upper 20's. Don't expect a lot of power from this truck but compared to the S-10 it does seem to have more get up and go. This is awesome basic transportation and I probably will drive it into the ground.

Favorite Features

Nice sounding stereo for a base model. It blares and sounds great. I replaced mine only so I could get a CD player but I kept the factory speakers. Nice large cup holders with inserts for smaller glasses or Coke cans. Handles decent for a truck and gets great gas mileage.

Suggested Improvements

Well I'm pretty satisfied with my truck and for the money I paid for it I can't really think of any improvement that I wish it had.

Review

Mine has a 4cyl.,5-speed, and a/c.I am not impressed with the gas milage and the seats are very uncomfortable. The shifter is very rough and since about 10k miles, there is a clicking noise from the engine. It sounds like a valve tick. The dealership said there is nothing wrong.I have tried high octane fuel, but that does not help. This truck is painful to ride in and the motor is weak.I am not impressed with this Ford...Mazda.

Favorite Features

Beautiful red paint.Cold a/c.Steering wheel is comfortable. It's roomy.

Suggested Improvements

Shifter feel, base model seats, ride comfort, cylinder head tick.Mazda stop selling Fords.
