2001 Mazda B-Series 2dr Cab Plus B3000 SE 2WD SB (3.0L 6cyl 5M)

Review

I bought this truck with 68k on the dash. Now the truck has 98,450 and still kicking hard like the day I bought it. Nothing has gone wrong with it; it has held up very well. expecting another 100k out of her.

Favorite Features

The stock audio system is amazing. Lot of cab room, mine is an extended cab. VERY durable engine. Lots of torque for its displacement. Long service intervals.

Suggested Improvements

Transmissions needs to be smoother. next better sensors. pinging issues.

2001 Mazda B-Series 2dr Cab Plus B3000 SE 2WD SB (3.0L 6cyl 5M)

Review

Had the car since it was new and now has 70000 miles on it. Had to replace the factory tires at 25000 miles and did not think much of it. I use this for light duty personal use with no off road or hauling. The original ball joints cracked at 40000 miles and were upgraded to better ones with grease fittings. The transmission was rebuilt at 69990 miles. The steering wheel cruise control was replaced due the disintegration of the original equipment (Common across ford and Mazda trucks).

Favorite Features

The vehicle has always run well with about 17 MPG local and 22 MPG Highway except for the review issues stated. It is a comfortable truck with a nice interior and sound system.

Suggested Improvements

The automatic electronic transmission is common across Mazda/Ranger and Ford Explorer vehicles. It has been efficient by I personally know many people who have had to rebuild the transmission prior to 70000 miles and I mean easy miles with no towing or off road use. They can definitely improve this with the Explorer since the Rangers and B series trucks are being phased out.

2001 Mazda B-Series 2dr Cab Plus B3000 DS 2WD SB (3.0L 6cyl 5M)

Review

This is the best truck I've had, better than a Ranger and cheaper. Handles well in all uses, hauls very well.

Favorite Features

Great looking truck, lots of interior room, view is great when you sit high. Will haul anything well, has great power.

Suggested Improvements

A little better gas mileage, rear mud guards need better design - they break off in cold weather.

Review

Often cannot go more than 35-45 mph city, 55 mph highway driving. Against 15-20 mph wind on interstate, max speed is 65-72 mph. Dynomometer test shows 27% power/torque (109.7 hp, 135 ft-lb torque--35% greater drive train inefficiency than competive trucks. Fuel consumption is 12-17 mpg, averaging 14-15 in winter and 15-16 in summer. Mazda notified me that fuel consumption sticker values were determined by mathematical algoritms and had no empirical evidence to support the fuel consumption claims. Mazda claims that the vehicle "performs according to specifications", which is the only answer that I ever get from them.

Favorite Features

Tie-downs in bed are hard to reach with a bed cover. Sway is excessive over bumps. Interior and other component features are pretty typical of other manufacturers' equivalent trucks.

Suggested Improvements

Ford/Mazda Automatic Over-drive transmission is the most inefficient on the market. The drive-train computer does not appear to have effective algoriths based upon the dynomometer test or the engine is just simply under- powered for this vehicle with such an inefficient drive train.
