OK so I have the same car you do but it is a 99. I had the same problem and didn't see that i was leaking anything, but check the overflow tank, meaning the plastic containter you pour your antifreeze in. I had a slight crack underneath it that I couldn't see my mechanic did. I replaced that and my car doesn't run hot anymore. When I did this, my problem went away. hope this ... Read More...

mazda 626 2.0 lx transmission problems

My sister picked up a 1994 626 the transmission surges and the engine idles way too fast. she manages this by shifting up and down thru the gears.Neutral at stop signs and stop lights etc. Now the lock on the shift automatically locks on it's own, I am trying to help her with this problem. I had a quite similar problem where I was driving my 626 up a long grade (crossing the rockies) with a LOT of weight on it. There was a loud bang sound, and I pulled off at the next service station. I have a 1996 Mazda 626 with a bad engine. It has the 2.0L 4 cyl. with a manual transmission. It seems the only engine that will work is a 1996 or 1997 model engine. I can buy a 1994 2.0l worth the money. What is the difference in these engines? Both are DOHC engines and look the same. I bought my car about 6 months ago.It worked fine untill about 5 days ago.It would cut out when I was doing any where from 40-60 mph then it would decelerate to about 20-30 mph...I even had to pull off the road. Today, I happened to look under my 1994 Mazda 626 and saw a wire hanging down in front of the rear wheel on the passenger side. Upon inspection, I found it to be small ground strap that was broken, with one end still bolted to the body of the car. I tried to locate where the other end was attached, but could not find it. I have a 1994 Mazda 626, which is now on its 3rd transmission (the original blew up in 1998, the second in 2003) Now, lucky me, it has a leak at the seal between the engine and transmission...that is what the mechanic told me ( i know a slight bit about cars, not enough to fix big troubles...can't remember what seal he called that).
