Try using starter fluid to get it going, then test for fuel being delivered (fuel pump, injectors, etc) and spark. Might simply be there isn't enough fuel to get it going. And hope it doesn't trigger the "hold" light to flash...if it's an atx. Mine starts flashing if I look at the dash sideways!
The ignition crancks, it just wont start. I can smell fuel... what's the problem. It's been sitting for 2 months, just replaced belts so it would run. Had to replace battery. Ran for a few days... now this! It's the same fuel that was in it 2 months ago... half a tank when it died. Any suggestions would be great!
My 93 Mazda 626 was flashing a hold button so I had 2 speed sensors changed..while in shop the mechanic fried my brain box and fuse box so I found used ones to replace..the motor was changed to a probe before I bought it and now the car's RPMs accelerate when in drive or park randomly which then makes the car sputter or cut off..I cannot find any shop in my ... The ignition system for a lot of mazdas like my 1993 626 is located in the distributor. When it heats up it will lose its connection and your car will not start. Some times it will reconnect again, most times it doesnt. And I do know on mine and most Mazdas you cant just replace that part of the ignition system. You have to replace the entire distributor. I got a ... Read More
I have a Mazda 626 1993 model 4cyl Auto transmission car. Since of late, when I want to indicate to turn left or right, it takes a few minutes before it starts to flash. On hot days it flashes OK. I also find that when the hazard warning is switched on, the indicatoir lights flash normally. Any ideas about this problem?
I have a 1993 Mazda 626 4 cyl it would start sometimes first try and then sometimes second try and sometimes I had to wait a few minutes and try again, It also cut off a few times while driving and I had to do same . the problem I had to replace the whole distributor it cost a little more than 200.00 but everything works fine now

This posting reports back on a successful solution. The 1993 Mazda 626 with V6 & 110,000 kilometers would hesitate when trying to accelerate at highway speeds, and idle rough, only when engine was warm. It was known that oil was in the speark-plug wells, both front and rear rockers. There were no Codes to assist diagnosis. Problem solved when both gaskets replaced which necessitates the inlet manifold gasket replacement also, plus ... Read More
I have no fuel pressure or fuel coming out of return fuel line. I have lost of gas in tank. Pump seams not to be running. Is there a relay or bump shut-off switch in this system. Thanks
Greetings, This question might seem almost off-topic, but I hope it's not. My father offered me his old car, 1993 Mazda 626 with 110,000 miles. First thing I did was have the timing belt checked....and I was told that I would need to change the belt, because the main seal is leaking on it..... and that I would need to change the main seal. The car's not worth the $700. I ... Read More

Hi! Just picked up a 1993 626 ES (Chronos) with 160,000kms (100,000 miles) and want to ensure that it runs reliably for a long time. I've got a few questions for which I haven't been able to find answers using Google. The car is in great condition. The only faults I'm aware of are: cracked windshield, a few nickel sized dings, power antenna stick going down, questionable water pump, low rear ... Read More
Hi Guys I have been reading posts in here for weeks and finally posted #1642. a few days ago. Please look at it when you get a chance. IRISH you posted something #1114 about MALF codes and that site (goldennet ) no longer exists. Could you repost the info or know where I could get it now? Also ALCAN seems to have some info on these cars that may be helpful I ... Read More
Hi all, I have a 5spd. Mazda 626 (2.0L), about 240,000 miles, with an annoying problem. Recently I had the timing belt changed and when I left the mechanic the acceleration felt funny. It would not accelerate quickly and merging was downright dangerous. When I started going uphill, the car started losing speed and when I floored it the check engine light came on and the car just stopped accelerating. Anyway ... Read More
Thnx for the quick reply, Given the year and mileage of the car, should I still go ahead and change it ??
Hi all, I seem to have a very specific problem. When I start the car in the morning, after about 5-10 minutes the tacho goes straight to zero and I get absolutely nothing from the engine. I have to wait about 10 minutes and the car seems to start up as nothing ever happened. And then I am good for the rest of the day. So what I have started doing ... Read More

I've had this car for about 8 months, it's my first car. 1993 626 LX 4cyl automatic (yes it's slow :)). It currently has 131k miles. It's not really that bad, but I did ... Read More
I have a 1993 Mazda 626 LX( 77k miles). It shakes dramatically when it goes beyond 70mph. But it's Ok below 60mph. Is it alignment problem or anything else? Hi everyone i am about to buy my first car. I was advised not to buy a new car b/c i will be stressed out about marks and scrathes on it. A great source of Mazda maintenance information is www.probetalk.com It is searchable. The Mazda 626/MX6 and Ford Probe from 1993-1997 were the same vehicles under the skin. The 2.5 V6 has the 4EAT automatic transmission. It must be flushed regularly or it will die prematurely, Mobil 1 synthetic transmision fluid and a Magnefine inline filter also help. It also greatly benefits from an additional aftermarket transmission cooler installed in line after ... Read More
It's not an abbreviation or an acronym or anything. Mazda has had basically four different series of four-cylinder engines: B, F, G and Z. The F series is basically middle-sized - the Bs (and their Z descendants) appear in 323/Protegé and the MX-5 Miata, and the Gs were used only in the bigger trucks and vans. The current designation (since 1993) is FSD, which is the F-series block with an aluminum ... Read More

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is doing well. My hold light has been flashing for a while and the dealership said it was caused by the distributor. Could we bring back the 1993-1997 626? Unfortunately, I think Mazda made a mistake by going to the larger, softer, plusher, kinder 626 we have seen since '98. I liked the smaller, sportier, lighter 626. Oh, and can we have the MPS concept version from Europe? I remember something about all-wheel drive and a blown 2.5L with something like 275 horses galloping through a 6-spd manual transmission... Please.... :-)
Just wanted to relate my experience with my wife's 1993 626ES, 5 spd. Last year after having the engine light go on and off for about a year I replaced both oxygen sensors (at about 65,000 miles). Went with Bosch O2 sensors from carparts.com and they work great. WIth coupon, I got them for less than $50 each. The also seemed to be better quality than the OEM and have had ... Read More
This was, indeed, a 5-door version of the 626 sedan, and generally it was fitted with Mazda's hottest four-banger of the time - a turbocharged 2.2-liter SOHC 12-valve four delivering 145 hp. When the fourth-generation 626 was launched for model year 1993 (and production for North America moved to Michigan), the GTs were left back home in Japan. As partial recompense, they gave us a new V6, but I still like ... Read More

The Tribute definitely came out too soon - which doesn't excuse the teething problems with the Focus, which went on sale in Europe a year before it did here. If nothing else, these twin debacles (plus the ongoing Explorer/Firestone fiasco) have pretty much convinced Ford that the same old procedures at its US assembly plants just aren't enough anymore. Would that GM could figure this out. By most accounts, the 626 ... Read More
My 1993 Mazda 626 ES V6 auto is broken in the road when I was going to the auto repair company for changing oil. I can start the engine but it didn't move a inch when I pressed the accecelerator. Most of the horror stories you hear about 626 transmissions (not all by any means, but a clear majority) have to do with the four-cylinder cars, which since 1994 have been fitted with Ford's CD4E transaxle, a decent-enough slushbox with a couple of horrid design flaws that should have been fixed before Job 1. (The worst bugs have since been swatted.) The V6 cars have Mazda's own automatic, in production since ... Read More

When Mazda introduced the fourth-generation 626 for 1993, they brought in two new engines: the 2.0-liter four and the 2.5-liter V6. The two flavors of the 2.2 (normally-aspirated and turbocharged) were dropped with the old bodyshell. To frog811: Whether this is a good price or not at least partially depends on the trim level. I'd say $6800 is way too much for a DX, even with mileage as low as this; ... Read More
