  I have a 1990 Mazda 626 DX. I HAD belt problems with my alternator belt as well. There are several things to consider. #1.If the belt is removed, can the alternator pulley spin freely?   I'm not sure of the later models of 626's,but I have a 1990 with automatic transmission and I have heard from more than one source that unless a seperate aftermarket transmission fluid cooler is installed($40-$80 part cost)those transmissions are prone to early failure because of heat builup.   I have 1990 Mazda 626 GLX, 4cyl, 12 valve, 2.0 l, 5 spd manual trans. I recently changed the head with a 1989, but now it keeps going out of time, does anyone know how many teeth are on the '89 camshaft sprocket versus the '90 as I think this may be the problem.

  the a/c system in the v6 626(ford). All mazdas are using ford diagnostics for obdII. the fuel tank and its components are ford.
