I used to be in the Limo Business in NYC thru the 80's and 90's using Town Cars and Grand Marquis'. Since then I've had a 91,94,99,2002,2005 and 2 2007's,one of which I still have.Leaks were an issue on a few of them and in the 91 ( I knew of the engine issues with that 1st year 4.6 but it was ok while I had it) it's air ride went ... I have a 97 Signature Series and in the process of replacing all tierods...ball joints...upper and lower control arm bushings...some of the parts suppliers offer over sized ball joints and different types of bushings depending on the type of package my car came with...my question is how can I tell if my car came with the touring edition handling package...I have replaced my sway bar bushings after having to measure it ... Had to replace the converter on my 2002 TC. When the shutter starts, it is almost too late to change the fluid. I had myine changed at a local shop whose owner was the shop forman at the local L/M before it bellied up and sold out.
I as told that Lincoln did not want to blow hot air out until it as cooler before blowing any air. Same on the heater. I usually rolled my windows don hill driving to help it work faster. Maybe I was being fed a line but that is the mine works in a 2002.
My water problem in the 99 I had was caused by the hole in the firewall that allows the HOOD RELEASE thru.I couldn't believe it but that was the cause.I tried everything else first. ;)
I need some more trunk space and was wondering if the rear seats fold down in a TC Executive Series 2002? And if so, how to do it?
Possibly the mass air flow sensor. Both my 2000 and my 2002 both had the same problem. It is about $150-200 installed by the dealer.
Hello all. I got my 03 tc 2 years ago and love it. My first Lincoln was my Dad's 71 Continental. Believe me, I can parallel park! I bought an 89 Town Car after that and loved it. Few problems (tranny and temp control). Wish I'd kept it. I owned a lot of other cars between and don't miss any of them except my BMW 2002s. Love those cars. SOOO small ... Read More
On a 2000 TC, I had the climate control to go out it was about $350.00 and a idle control sensor for $150 or so. until it was wrecked at 107+K. My current 2002 with 70k, I have replaced the drivers seat motor track $350 and the climate control went out last night. Other than normal maintenance, I have not spent much at all on either of the TC's I have ... Read More
What did the dealer charge and is it fixed yet?
This seems to be a problem with lots of 99's. I took my 99 Town Car in to dealer for fix. They cleaned and repaired the right cowl screen, sealed cowl and air intake. However, after 2 rains this past week, there was still a leak (much smaller than before)into right front passenger carpet; there appears to be no leak as before in right rear passenger carpet. I plan to take ... Read More
I fixed the problem, it was the cowl vent, cost me $5.00 for some clear silicone and an hour of my time.
What was the solution? My 99 get wet on passenger side front and I can't find cause. Thanks
Greetings: I find the same problem with a 98 Town Car. Has Ford Acknowledged this issue? Much thanks for your attention as I await your reply. Maurice Newsome
Thanks for the detailed solution. My '99 leaked on the driver's side last year - now it is the passenger side leaking.
Thanks for posting. I'm sure many owners will benefit from your knowledge. :)
I was trying not to take up all of this space by posting this like this, but here you go guys. Hope this helps. Remove the cowl vent screen by removing 2 long plastic screws up toward the windshield and the large rubber weather seal that runs across the front of it (engine side). Then remove screws holding down the cowl vent tray and remove it. The long screws are not ... Read More
Send me an email. I have received a large email with directions on replacing the cowl vent seal which is defective in those year TC's, and will cause this very problem (According to Lincoln Rep). BradMCooper@hotmail.com I have not tried it yet, but it sounds like it will work. Sunroof may still be your particular problem, but I don't have one, and still have the same leak. Food for thought.
My '99 did the same thing last year, but on the drivers side. Dealer resealed the windshield and no more leaks.
I have an 01 Town Car and I noticed every time it rains or I go thrue a puddle the passenger floor gets wet. The water is coming from inside the dashboard and dripping down. I've talked to about 20 other TC owners and they're having the same problem. Anyone have any idea how to fix this?
Can't argue with that logic. I think the 4.6 is a good engine but like you say it is a ford engine used in many applications and doesn't produce the power of the 4.6 caddie engine. The 2003 and 04 towncars have dual exhausts which is why they produce 239 hp instead of the 210 for the 2002.The sound from the exhausts are quiet which indicates they are still restricted from ... Though we did not seek it out, we got a great deal of experience in the never ending snows of 2002-2003 in the metro New York area. We have always shod our Lincolns with Michelin tires, and especially liked the "Rainforce" model. We are far less happy with the "Symmetry", having had an unusual number of flats that totalled the tire. As a result, we switched to Continental "Contact Touring" on ... Read More
FYI: Today, March 19, 2003, in The Arizona Republic newspaper there is an Associated Press article titled "Luxury cars, SUVs crack under crash-test pressure" by Dee-Ann Durbin. Bumper crash tests were made by the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. Does anyone know if they have a internet website? A Google search should determine this. The luxury sedans cited in the article are noted below in order, according to the degree of ... Read More
I have driven the big Lincolns since I bought my first '57 Premier coupe in 1967, I had to give $85.00 for it, it needed a battery. I soon bought another one that was minus the trans., from one of the mechanics at the local L/M Dealer, My first experience was when my Mom and Dad brought home a '57 Premiere Landau four door it was that Wimbeldon white and had ... mechanics as the 97 & earlier models. Having taken a factory tour, Wixom, MI, I wouldn't worry about any Lincoln since '91. They are excellent rides. Don't concern yourself with the "wind" noise. That is due to the design of the door mirrors. Enjoy a fine automobile.

I am current on the market to buy a 2002/03 Town Car or Seville/Deville. My main consideration now is reliability and durability of the vehicle. I would prefer to buy a model with engine and chassis being in use for at least 2-3 years instead of brand new to avoid some bugs or calibration problems. Could anyone assist or share your experience if you happen to own one? Thanks.
We do not expect Lincoln to offer an optional engine on the T/C...The 239hp will the the only engine offered unless they make an abrupt change in mid-year. On the 2003 they changed the axle ratio to 3.27 from 3.08 on the Exec and Signature and 3.55 on the Touring sedan T/C...This should help to get the land yacht off the line a bit quicker. For those who didnt realize...the HP ... Read More
The 6 disc CD changer in the trunk cost almost $600.00 from the dealer. The player is pre-wired to the trunk. Does anyone know who manufactures the CD changers for Lincoln or know an equivalent that can be connected using a wire adaptor to the prexisting wiring? I'm not interested in the changers that convert the signal to FM. Thanks for any input!
I have heard that Lincoln does intend to come out with a 300hp TC. I also heard that it will have a center console making it a 5 passenger car. Can anyone verify any of the above? The 2003 Town Car claims to have greater trunk space but when you read the specifications it is the same size as the 2002 Town Car which is 20.6 cubic ft. What gives?
I drove the car today...We are all in agreement that extra HP would be nice. We were wondering why they didn't use the 302 hp V8 that the aviator is getting. The 2003 has a quiter ride, we all noticed this right away. The rack and pinion steering is a big improvement. The car does not wander as much as the previous TC. The interior is much "dressier" than the 2002. ... Read More
new 2002 Towncars for $29,995. In your opinion, is the list of improvements on the 2003 worth the many thousands of dollars difference? IMO, the TC still needs 300+ hp to compete with Cadillac and 235 is only adequate.
I believe that it is OK to like Big Sedans when you are young adult. I too liked Big Sedans when I was a young adult. It is also OK to like much smaller and quicker sportier cars.
