I hope someone who has this problem will benefit from my post. I have an 11 year old LSV8 with 97K miles. Yes it is getting up there but it's a solid car and has served me well; I was not intending to trade it in. One day a couple of weeks ago I noticed a subtle squeak or squeal when doing the sharp turn out of my driveway, and when ... Read More
This is my LS story. I hope to educate those thinking about an LS purchase or those that have found what a headache it is to own one of these vehicles. I had a 2001 LS. I bought it in 05 with about 80k miles on it for 11k. In 2008 with about 110k miles on it, the timing chain broke. I had no indication there was anything wrong with the ... Read More
I took my 2001 LS V8, 3.9L to a wannabe mechanic back in March 2010. He told me that my power steering pump was bad and needed a new one. He stripped the hydraulic pump cooling fan hose (part number 8c635) when removing it and I’ve not been able to find one . We’ve tried to order online but all orders are backed up until the year 2016. The reason is ... Read More
Of course not - but I AM worried that with Mullaly leaving, that the "comittment" to Lincoln may be forgotten again - Bill Ford does not like Lincoln, which was apparent when Nasser was fired, and the direction of Lincoln being part of the PAG, and going in the pathway of the LS was immediately reversed. Will the guy tapped to replace Mullaly stretch to rebuild Lincoln? What do you think? ... Read More
I have a 2001 Lincoln LS - V8. 210,000 miles! Regular maintenance - oil changes every 5-7 thousand miles. I changed plugs at 100 and 200K. Changed out the tranny fluid around 110k. I had to get a new clock spring for the steering wheel controls, and change a window regulator a few years ago. I discovered Wagner ceramic brake pads and good quality rotors go a long way for a ... Just bought the above LS at the auction for a friend of mine. Had it a weekend before he came to pick it up and drive it home. Hello I was wondering if someone can help me I have a 2001 Lincoln Ls that has over heated i have replaced the water pump, and the thermostat and it seems to continue to over heat and the antifreeze wont stay in it keep sleaking out. Does anyone know what it might be I need to get this fixed before my son starts school please help.
How Can you figure out if the hydraulic fan is bad in my 2001 Lincoln LS ?????
For everyone that is having overheating problems here it is: first what you need to do is when it is overheating pull over(don't shut-off engine) and check if the fan is blowing air not just a little but a lot. If you don't feel air blowing the fan is not engaging on high. There is an actuator on these hydraulic cooling fan systems. The acuator is on the back of the ... Read More

Hello All, im still new to all of this, but you guys seem helpful, can anyone please tell me if the 2003 and up THX system on the lincoln ls will fit on my 2001 Lincoln Ls, i want to put that T.V. into my car instead of my cd player
IIRC there was a redesigned valve cover gasket. If they keep putting on the old parts that might explain it. Or they're just putting it on wrong.
This is a re-occuring problem. I have changed the Valve cover gasket a total of 6 times now, 3 times at the dealer while the car was under warranty and 3 times at my local repair shop. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this problem and if they have found a fix for it. Any info is appreciated. The car is a 2001 Lincoln LS 3.9L V8.
I have a 2001 LS V6 man 5spd. It was coils 2 one on each bank. I told the Lincoln Dealership to replace them all. Thinking that the ones that was still good would go bad shortly. You say you had both coils replaced? There's eight of them. If they only replaced two, maybe you still have a COP problem.
Several months ago I purchased a 2001 LS V8 with only 16,400 miles on it. It now has 20,200 on it and ready for first oil change.
My 2002 LSE with the 3.9 V8 has been giving me one issue after another. Nothing much for 1st 100K miles but ridiculous for last 5K miles. Anyways, I've had both the coils replaced (December) and fuel pump go out (last week). Today, there's an issue with Advancetrac. I'd dump this thing now but we're in need of replacing our '98 Explorer first.
I have a Lincoln LS 2001 with 160,000 miles, has always been maintained well. 3 1/2 weeks ago, it started to rough idle. I have had every possible test ran on it. It's possible the cooling system has an "air bubble". Lincoln has a procedure to purge any trapped air within the system. This is usually needed when a componet is replaced and the system re-filled. I can't believe you're still pursuing this 3.5 years later. If the recall wasn't applicable to your vehicle then you have no case for negligence. It was an accident - that's why you have insurance.

I found one (new) and I contacted the dealer to install it.....200$ !!!! No way!!!!!!!! Has anyone ever installed this mirror on there LS??? If so is it difficult and how do you do it? Thanks for any info!
Thank 4 the help, i finally fixed the ride, I replaced the valve gaskets, after that my mechanic told me two cylinders where misfiring and like you said it was the COPS. Thanx a million akirby!!!
Leaking valve cover gaskets can cause the COPS to fail.
Could it be the gaskets if there leaking?
You either have bad COPs (coil on plug) or a bad fuel pump or both. For the overheating - if you stop, turn it off and restart it does the temp go back to normal? If so it's probably a bad temp sensor or wire or possibly an air bubble in the coolant. If it stays hot then it's either a bad thermostat or a bad cooling fan. The cooling fan ... Read More

It is very straightforward but things are a bit tight on the driver's side. I suggest you start with the passenger side to build your confidence. It is easy. Just remove the coil cover from the valve cover - 8 screws requiring a 7mm socket, if I recall. You may need a 7mm box-end wrench for the ones closest to the firewall. The coils are also attached with a screw that ... Read More

Your description sounds like you have one or more bad COPs. Your dealer can do a stress test on them as well as run some other diagnostics such as fuel pressure whether the check engine light is illuminated or not. As akirby said, coils do fail with some regularity. When they find the bad one(s), they will check for oil pooling in the spark plug wells. If that is found, valve ... Read More
Could be the COPs (coils). They're prone to failure. Leaking valve cover gasket can also cause oil to build up in the spark plug wells which causes the COPS to fail more quickly. Tranny is the other possibility as is the fuel pump.

Maybe this has been addressed before; maybe not. There is a mechanism on each door that attachs between the door and the body.
