I have a 2000 Lincoln LS V8. It is a complete car. Blown Headgasket. Everything else pretty much is good. Would there be any interest for parts if I parted it out? Everything is pretty clean. Tranny, Air conditioner, wheels, Diff, Axels, Steering, Brakes, Computer, Audio system, interior, all panels etc. Its all here. What parts would you want or need? Orlando Fl. area.
Do not buy this car! When I owned mine, my husband and I both had decent paying jobs and couldn't afford the repairs. Everything is dealership parts, there are no aftermarket parts for this car. When you have a repair that needs to be made (which you will have many of) you will pay a significant amount more than you would with other cars. Lugnuts alone for this car run $4 ... Read More

You can pick up a new coil pack from any advance auto/autozone type store for $53 or so. Don't overpay for the Ford part. Also - if you change them yourself - just make sure the plug well doesn't have any oil or moisture in it - that is what causes them to misfires.
Hey I have a 2000 LS with 210,300 miles on it and it still run good
I have a 2002 Lincoln LS with 210,00 miles on it. Runs good - starting to have to fix alot of stuff though.
I have a 2002 LS. I have had and am still having ignition coil problems. It actually sets the check engine light on - it's a "clyinder misfire" at least that's what it's called on my car. Yeah it's a V8 so there is 8 seperate coils! at $95.00 EACH. I have replaced 4 of the 8 with Ford parts. Now I have a cylinder #7 misfire. But my car has ... Read More

I concur with you about compelling and excitingly designed product. I just can't get worked up over any Lincoln today. Seem like overpriced Fords. hate to burst your bubble, but my son has a 2000 lincoln ls v8 and has battled this issue for over 2 years. P1299 means cylinder head overtemperature protection active. The Lincolns have a feature that will shut the engine down at a certain point to prevent severe damage. It means stop driving it! As for the cause, the whining makes me suspect your water pump. The belt will squeal if the pump is seized or sqirrely. Otherwise, the common cause is air in the system, the degas bottle issue (see my more detailed ... Read More

About 4 months ago my 2000 Lincoln LS V8 started knocking while driving and I thought it was bad fuel or even perhaps the car had some other problem. Did you ever resolve the issue with the cooling fan. My 2000 Lincoln LS is doing the same. It cools fine for many miles, the sort of randomly decides to overheat. My 2000 Lincoln LS (V6) makes this strange noise. The pattern seems to be when I run my A/C. It blows out hot air and it makes the strange noise. Then, the car somewhat seems as if it will shut off. If your heart is set on it than get it. Just make sure your mechanic is familiar with that vehicle so he can perform an educated inspection of it. Now with that said as the owner of a 2000 Lincoln Ls myself, I would advise you NOT to get it.
i have a 2000 lincoln ls with 86,000 mi. when i'm driving the car makes a humming sound, the higher i accelerate the louder the sound. i thought there maybe a leak in my exhaust somewhere, but that's not the case. does this sound like a transmission problem?
What is the correct 20 inch rim offset and tire size for a 2000 Lincoln LS?
The LS has an oddball offset. Different than most cars. I think most guys with 20" and higher wheels aren't turning them all the way because they will rub.
Is it smoke or steam? It might just be condensation in the exhaust - if so it would dissipate very quickly. If it sticks around then it sounds like coolant which would most likely mean a blown head gasket. Check the oil for milky fluid and/or check the coolant for oil. You can also get a compression test done.
First, the 225/35R20's are too small from a load carrying capacity point of view. You want to get the load capacity issue right because a load related tire failure can have tragic results. The fact the you have rubbing says there is probably something else going on - and I am going to guess wheel offset. You need to find a retailer who will work with you to get this right ... Read More
I have a 2000 Lincoln Ls that has 125K. No major problem besides ignition coils, but now when I start the start i get a cloud of white smoke from the exhaust. Only when I start the car. Do anyone know what this could be?
I have a 2000 Lincoln LS with 225/35/20 tires that are rubbing and getting cuts on the inner walls. Are the tires too big? Or do I need new shocks because I have seen 245/35/20 on some Lincoln LS cars.
I've been there and done that. You're on the right track, just make sure you replace ALL coils. Great decision on replacing the gaskets as well, because the allow oil to leak on coils as they become worn. At 135,000 miles, you're lucky to be just having a slight miss. Your coils, plugs, and gaskets are all over due at the mileage so be sure to replace all. I have a ... Read More

Is that a trick question? Fix the leaky hose and refill it with the proper antifreeze mixture and make sure you bleed out all the air. The A/C problem might be unrelated. If the radiator fan is working and it's full of coolant and you've replaced the thermostat correctly and it still overheats then it might be the water pump.
I checked the serpentine belt (Visually). It seemed to be working fine. After turning the car on and off to allow it to overheat, then looking and listening to what the car is doing, I saw a hose with a small little crack, nothing too major, it did have some coolant liquid leaking from it. My guess is it's the serpentine belt. That belt drives both the a/c compressor and the water pump IIRC. If it came off then that could have knocked off the coolant hose also. Easy enough to check. ... Read More

The later cars had either solenoid or valve body problems - I forget which. But it's not an internal problem and doesn't require a new transmission.
I think that is an unusual problem on this vehicle. The transmission's seem to be pretty durable except for some computer software issues on early cars.
I have a 2005 LS and I experienced the same problem. The tranny slips and I have been stuck halfway through a turn many times with an engine that simply revs. It seemed to slip more when I'd go from 2nd to 3rd gear, either accelerating or deaccelerating. I agree with akirby that it sounds like an internal problem... The symptoms are somewhat odd given how the transmission is designed (see below). For 1, 2, 3 to work requires that the front 2-speed gear box actuator is functioning and that the middle 3-speed gear box is shifting between 3.25:1 and 1.53:1. If the 3-speed can't switch to gear-3 but remains stuck in gear-2 (1.53:1) then D4 will be 3rd ... Read More
If you lost gears then that's pretty serious. Sounds like an internal problem. Find a good Ford or Lincoln mechanic that knows that transmission (same one used in the Explorer).
Well akirby - if your engineer friend help designed the the transmission for the 2000 Lincoln LS, maybe he can answer my question as to what the cause is since Ford must obvioulsy know or track issues with their drive train to hopefully better the product.... I have reposted the issue here: I noticed about 3 years ago shortly after purchasing the car in a private sale that the transmission would ... Read More
Well they could have put it on the V6 and just plugged it on the V8. What's the big deal? All the owner's manual needed was a footnote. If both transmissions are externally the same casing, then the engineer's excuse seems rather lame to me. I think the real reason is that manufacturers are moving to "sealed for life" components. We may even see the sealed engine pretty soon.
