2004 Lexus RX 330 4dr AWD SUV (3.3L 6cyl 5A)

Review

I love this car. I can stash the kids, the bikes and the dog and yet it isn't WAAY too big to drive like some of the other SUVs. It drives like a car and turns on a dime. EASY to park and a very comfy ride.

Best Features

LOVE the heated seats and dual zone climate control. The one touch rear door is a great feature.

2004 Lexus RX 330 4dr Fwd SUV (3.3L 6cyl 5A)

Review

After reading so much about Lexus reliability and dealer service, I'm underwhelmed. It's not bad, but it's not great, certainly not a rating of "5" that every dealership employee begs that you give them. Our car had been good - good power, good comfort, decent reliability. The suspension in tuned too soft for my taste, and the FWD is not ideal. In the 33k miles we've had the car, we've had several items break. This includes the HID headlights, Brake master cylinder (took 3 try's to get this one fixed), auto climate control still does not work right, rear power liftgate problems, and driver sun visor. Stock Goodyears wear out in 20k miles.

Best Features

Soft leather, 18" wheels, nice materials inside, good looks, good gas mileage (17 / 24), dealer loaner cars when in for service. Good storage space in car.

Worst Features

Make the ride more "european" and less cadillac. How about more than 4-way adjustable passenger seat??? Better reliability, less dealer pressure for high ratings. Split rear gate so window can be lifted to allow for large items (like a surfboard).

Review

The rotors had to replaced at l4000 miles after the steering wheel began to shake. At 27000 miles I was driving down a 8 mile 7% grade in third gear and needed to brake because the traffic slowed, the steering wheel suddenly shook so badly that I had to pull over and let the rotors cool before proceeding. Rotors were replaced for a second time. If you have paint chip on the bumper do not take the RX330 through a high pressure car wash as the paint may peel off the bumper as it did in my case. Lexus will do nothing about. It is your problem even if the car is within warrentee. I feel the vehicle is unsafe because of the rotor problem. I would not suggest buying one.

Best Features

Comfortable to drive.

Worst Features

Fix the rotor problem. Put a quality finish on your bumpers. Make clear in the manual to only hand wash the car.

Improved over RX 300 (mostly!)

Review

The styling, interior, and luxury features are all substantially improved over RX300. Handling, turning/parking, cornering, overall power better too. Cruises at 80+ wonderfully. BUT, annoying manifold buzz (even after recall); brake rotors needed turning at 12K and 25K miles; transmission downshift lags badly at low speeds (i.e. accelerating suddenly from 15-20 MPH). Almost all units have 18" wheels with very expensive, short-lasting tires (mine are gone at 31K, $800+ to replace). I believe that quiet ride is sacrificed with the larger wheels and lower-profile tires. Lexus still can't get auto-climate control right - my 10- yr-old S500's is truly "set and forget".

Best Features

In-dash CD changer, telescoping steering column w/memory, auto-dimming mirrors, damped open/close for all interior compartments, wood/metal trim, illuminated gauges (change intensity according to ambient light), audio on steering wheel, rear legroom, NO ASHTRAY!

Worst Features

Tighten up transmission, stronger brakes, take 18" wheels out of all packages, make tilting RV mirrors easier to override, make tow-hitch standard

Review

This vehicle is probably the best I have ever owned and I'm 80 yrs old and over this many years I've owned a few! It's been a while since I've liked a car well enough to just sit in it in my garage! Buy it you'll love it !!!

Best Features

Actually I like everything about it and it exceeds my every need and expectation!!

Worst Features

Increase the price enough to make the nav system standard.
