Suggestion: Check the transmission fluid condition very regularly, and have it serviced with the correct fluid by a trusted transmission shop (not a quick lube place). Avoid the dealer's transmission "flush". Don't expect that dealer service includes any transmission service. The black fluid is the result of an internal problem that spread to all other components of the system. It's likely been brewing for a while. Just my $.02, but free ... Read More
I finally got the car back yesterday...after putting a new transmission in it. I took it to a transmission shop nearby and they said the fluid was black and suggested a rebuild ($3500). The dealer I bought the car from was able to find a transmission with 29K miles for $1100 and then agreed to split the bill with me 50/50. I ended up paying $1000 and may be getting a ... Read More
I just bought a 2004 RX 330 (had 97K on it) and my reasons for it are very similar to yours. I've had it a little over 3 months and it's sitting in a shop right now with a shift solenoid problem. It basically won't shift into overdrive, but otherwise drives/shifts perfectly. I've been told a few things--1) the shift solenoids are inside the transmission and therefore the transmission will need ... Read More
I live in VA so the shop in CA won't be much help to me, but thanks anyway. The car is an hour and a half away right now at my cousin's repair shop. Being a 2004 model and still on original battery is unusual. My sister's and wife's 2004 RX 330's batteries were both replaced last year. I don't know a weak battery has anything to do with a stuck shift solenoid. But with all the electronic these days, replacing the battery could reset some programs.
We bought a 2004 Lexus RX 330 in June 2010 after trying to do as much research as possible and deciding that it would be a good car. I loved it and it seemed to be a good vehicle, until yesterday when the Check Engine and VSC lights came on. I took it to Autozone and was given the code of P0766 Shift Solenoid D Performance or Stuck Off. We took ... Read More
I am considering a 2004 RX 330 with 93,000 miles. It is in mint condition and they have all service records. It is also still under the 100,000 mile warranty. I have a 2004 RX 330, and had a headlight condensation problem as you describe. I placed an electric space heater on a step ladder about two feet from the headlight, and heated the assembly with low heat for about 1.5 hours. The condensation disappeared. I have also had the moldings from my rear quarter windows blow off. The first time it happened, I had the window replaced (expensive). This time, ... Read More

It's not likely you found a 1994 model. The first year for RX was 1999, starting in 1998. Those were RX300's. Redesigned for 2004 they were called RX330. The first year models (1999 or 2004) had a few quirks, but were generally good cars when well maintained with a few exceptions. The 1999-2001 models came with "under designed" transmissions (compared to the expectations of buying an expensive automobile with a rep ... Read More

Dear Hunterjo1, I have now a problem with my RX 330 2004 Air suspension, the light in the dashboard to put the system off starter blinking on and off for few days. I believe the dealer is lying to you. Lexus service reps always went out of their way to do the warranty work and never did I have a complaint. I am considering purchasing a 2004 RX 330 and am interested in the Neptune Blue Mica color. I was told by the dealer it is a fairly unusual color and they do not have any in stock. I am concerned it may have a "purple" tint to it in certain light. I cannot tell by looking at the Lexus website or by the color chip in the brochure. The dealer said ... Read More
Just noticed a 2004 RX 330 on EBay (from BMW dealer in Austin, TX). No bids yet, looks like reserve is at $35,000. It has around 2,300 miles on it and Premium Plus Pkg w/heated seats-rain sensing wipers. Black w/ivory. It sounds like a decent deal, but I'm a skeptical person....there's usually something wrong when I see a "good deal". Does Lexus still honor the warranty, etc. Opinions?

I just took delivery on 8/14/03 on a Neptune Blue colored 2004 RX330 FWD with premium plus package. MSRP $39,413. I got it at $36,528 plus tax, title and licience. In addition, I was able to get 3.59% financing from Lexus during the Golden Opportunities promotion going on through Sept. 2. This is in the Southern California Area if you are interested. Sofar, I love my RX :)
...before you get convinced that Lexus and their HVAC (heating-ventilation-air conditioning) vendor, Denso, are the Evil Twins of the Auto World - note the following: a. There was a lawsuit against Lexus about 10 years ago - and the plaintiff lost in court over his claim that the windshield fogging in a LS400 was a deadly design fault and We All Were Going to Die If We Were Dumb Enough to ... I really like the RX 330 and may buy one this week. But the RX is not going to do 0-60 in 7.8 seconds unless I can get my hands on one of those units they give to the automotive press. My 2001 Acura MDX advertised 0-60 in 8.5 seconds. I could do it in 8.6. My 2003 Acura MDX advertises 0-60 in 8.0 seconds. I can do it in 8.2. ... Read More
I've had my RX330 w/Perf/Nav for about 2 weeks. I love everything about the car, however it is a real inconvience to stop the car to use the Nav. Yesterday my kid wanted to go to a Burger King. The good news is that the POI found one. The bad news is I had to stop the car to look for it. For me it seems to be more dangerous to have ... Read More

For those looking at the RX 330 but maybe wanting something sportier, Lexus will be coming out with a new SUV based on the next generation GS. The SUV should be out either end of this year or early 2004. The concept version, called the HPX (for high-performance crossover), will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show on April 16. Who knows, this may be the actual vehicle since the ... Read More

"The RX 330 is the successor to the RX 300, still the best-selling Lexus model after five years on the market (without the use of incentives). And after spending several hours with the new RX, we have no qualms about saying to current owners: You'll love it." First Drive: 2004 Lexus RX 330 Discussion here: Lexus RX 330 Steve, Host
