2006 Lexus IS 350 4dr Sedan (3.5L 6cyl 6A)

Review

Recently bought the IS 350 and sold my Audi A8 as it had 128,000 miles. It was a big change, but each day I like the car more as I learn more about it and drive it more. To me it seems like a luxury go cart! It is very responsive both in steering and acceleration. The front seats are surprisingly comfortable for such a small car and the back seats are very well thought out except for the leg room is a little shy if you are over 6 ft and the front seat is all the way back. I like the no key entry and start feature and the nav system which I am trying to learn. Also like the manual automatic shift feature. Not much to dislike so far. Probably will keep the car for quite a while.

Best Features

Air conditioned/heated comfortable seats. Quickness/acceleration. Also the "no key" system.

Worst Features

Would like to hear less tire noise. Shuts out almost all traffic noise, but tire noise still gets through.

Review

IS 350 might be the most economical luxury sedan sports car on the market, but it is also the fastest. Seriously, to get faster than this car, you have to buy a Corvette, a Viper, or a 911 turbo. This car cranks. The luxury package is a must, with a TALKING map navigation (named "Lexy"), keyless pushbutton starting (your key never leaves your pocket for any reason), parking camera, easy sunroof operation. The map alone is worth the extra $5k it costs.

Best Features

Keyless entry to car and trunk. Keyless ignition. Navigation system rocks.

Worst Features

Add the following for a 10 rating. 1) needs a stick shift option instead of the "tiptronics"-like option. 2) tall drivers heads brush the roof: driver's seat needs ability to go DOWN more, closer to the floor. 3) XM radio should be part of luxury package. 4) nav system needs "show TRAFFIC" option.

Review

This car is spectacular! It's better than most sports cars, and is reliable on top of it! I've always wanted a Porsche, but I have to admit, I don't want it any longer after driving my Lexus. I can't wait for the V8! Thank you Lexus for such a great driving experience.

Best Features

Everything! The GPS, the gripping of the tires to the ground, the speed... it's all good!

Worst Features

A little more leg room in the back would be good.

Review

After reviewing all the competition from Japan and Germany the IS 350 won. From a value standpoint it is far, far less expensive when you add all the options that are standard. But more important the car is built to the highest standards in this category with a wonderful 306hp engine that rockets this car effortlessly to speeds well over the limit. Mine has the Sport Package which includes a firmer suspension and larger wheels and the car sticks like glue in the corners although it gets a bit unsettled in the bumpy stuff. The Navigation w/Mark Levinson stereo is superb and highly recommended. I understand the ML system is not usually ordered by the dealers, but look around to find one.

Best Features

Overall high level of execution. Mark Levinson stereo/DVD system, and the optional XM satellite radio and MP3 input make for a wide array of listening possibilities on long trips. Engine performance is outstanding and offers plenty of power and flexibility. Absolutely top drawer powerplant.

Worst Features

A bit more work on the overall suspension package is in order in my opinion. It can be a bit jittery in some situations. And the power steering is a bit overboosted and 'light', I'd like a bit more feedback to know what the front end is doing. Nothing else needs attention from what I see.

Review

I would rate this car as excellent overall. Robust performance, quiet ride and refined look make the 350 a versatile autombile. Clearly a well engineered car with an impressive reliability record, far better than that of any German manufacturer. The interior is exceptional, keyless ignition and entry is so ingenious that you will never want to carry a car key around again, leather is comfortable, gauges are sharp, controls fairly intuitive. Exterior style is above average, great from the front/side angle but the rear looks similar to a Camry or Sonata.

Best Features

Keyless ignition/entry is extremely convenient and well designed, interior aesthetics are awesome, more than ample power and braking, gauges are cool, attractive body style especially the front and side views.

Worst Features

Standard equipment excludes memory seats and HID headlights, features offered as standard in less expensive, comparable quality cars. In configuring the IS line, Lexus clearly attempts to force consumers towards their maximum profit "option" packages.
