Test Driver Ratings & Comments
Acceleration commentsThroughout all of the quarter-mile runs, the time varied by only .26 seconds, showing that it was a very consistent performer. It was frustrating to be playing with different parameters like launch rpms and shift points in order to get the best times and getting little to no results. The best run was achieved by launching at 1,500 rpm and shifting as close to redline as the manual action of the shifter allowed. Shift performance is a little slow at full throttle upshifts, with the shifts from first to second manually being done a little before 6,000 rpms to actually have the shift occur at the 6,400-rpm redline before hitting the rev limiter. One other note is that the ECM power button did not offer any improvement in performance in our testing, but it is suspected that once the computer senses full throttle acceleration, it goes into that programming automatically.
Braking commentsBrake performance was excellent, as far as the small distance it required to stop, but pedal feel is a whole other subject. During the first run, the brake pedal went dead to the floor with little to no resistence to get there, but you could tell that the vehicle was stopping in a very short distance, which it did. After making that run, we checked the fluid level just to make sure it was not low on brake fluid, but the fluid level was well within operating range. Other than that oddity, the ABS system operated fine with no notable tire-scuffing on the pavement and got an even better number on the next run. The third run was within .14 of the second, showing the repeatable performance of the brakes.
