I would have to agree with you on the Mercedes styling, but only on the CLS, it is NICE! But the CLS is a four passenger vehicle, so it is not an option for me and it costs WAY more than my ES. I am not excited by either the Audi or the BMW, just my personal preference. On the other hand, the new ES in my opinion is the nicest ... Read More

Transmission problems with Lexus ES?

  • Lexus ES, Toyota Camry platform sharing

I didn't intend to upset anybody. I very much wanted to buy an ES. However, after researching the car and learning of the power train issues and Lexus' poor owner relations, I switched my attention to an Acura RL. Here's what Edmunds has to say about the relationship between the Lexus ES and the Toyota Camry. "The history of the ES can be traced to Lexus' first year, 1990, when the ... Read More

  • ES 300-330 Transmission Problems

Written by: msamel on Oct 31, 2003 6:37:40 AM

After experiencing the jerky transmission in the 2002 ES 300, I was told that the "fix" would come by year end 2002. When that didn't happen in early 2003, I filed under the lemon law and was treated in an excellent manner by Lexus Corporate. I was flipped into a 2003, charged usage, and the 2003 had the same problems. Then the fix came out, and after the fix, it was ... Read More

If you already own a 2000 ES 300, then you obviously have some sort of access to a Lexus dealer. I would recommend you drive a 2003 ES 300 so you can see the differences for yourself. While the 1997-2001 ES 300s were great cars, they were only new cosmetically. They still used the platform of the 1992-1996 versions. This is not a bad thing mind you, as cars typically use ... • ES300 Toyo Tire Problem

    Written by: jparsons52 on Jan 30, 2003 7:52:13 AM

Lexus has encountered significant problems with the Toyo tires that come as original equipment on some ES 300's. On my '02 ES, with 10,000 miles on the odo, I noticed excessive "road noise". I stopped by the dealership to make a service appointment. When I described the problem, the service rep immediately examined the tires and showed me the "cupping" that had occurred on inside treads of the front tires. He ... Read More

  • Deposits on new ES 300

Written by: lenscap on Feb 12, 2001 6:43:07 AM

I placed a $500 deposit this past weekend on the upcoming new ES. I am number five in line at my dealer (in the Chicago area). I currently have a 1995 ES that I bought new (with only 31,000 miles on it now) and am about 90% sure I will get the new one. My deposit is fully refundable at any time. Also, there have been several TV shows on in ... Read More
