Vehicle2004 Land Rover Discovery SE 4WD 4dr SUV (4.6L 8cyl 4A)
ReviewI purchased my Diccovery in 2006. It had 20k miles on it. I had to replace all of the rotors and pads at the same time around 50k miles and they are not cheap cause you cant just replace the pads, must replace pads AND rotors. It overheated in Atlanta (it has 80K miles now) dealer tells me I have to replace head gaskets ($2800), Mass airflow sensors ($600), Thermostat ($470) .. and my window wont roll down anymore so i need a window regulator ($435) DO NOT BUY ONE OF THESE CARS YOU WILL REGRET IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. YES THEY LOOK GREAT BUT THEY ARE GARBAGE ON THE INSIDE.

Hi, I just read this. I used to be an instructor at Land Rover - who the hell told you that rotors/disks need to be changed at the same time as a normal break pad change? You see, for their sins, LR build a hard ass off roader, then tart it up to look like a family SUV. These things are designed to be serviceable in almost any environment from the wastes of Northern Ontario to the plains of Africa. As such, things like cylinder head gaskets are simple to replace compared to a high performance V8 as there is a tolerance built into the head that means it does not require skimming etc. You literally pop the timing belt off, un bolt the head, remove the gasket, clean the surfaces, new gasket in, tighten bolts to specified torque and refit the timing belt. the service manual goes out of the window if you use them off road a lot. However, could they have made a better car? HELL YES!! But in my own view, dealers should explain just how much looking after they need. They may look like an ordinary SUV, a car - but they're very different underneath. Ironically - Discovery to 2004 was sold in Japan as the Honda "Crossroads" If you ever bought another - buy the diesel Biggest problem? we were always fighting was water ingress, but alas - my days with LR finished when BMW bought the company. all the bestReport it
