What I can tell you is only buy a 2003 or newer. A TON of problems were fixed with that year including a better engine. The 99-02 has a modified GM Buick V8 that has an issue with build-up on the heads. Seriously, you have to gun it to reach 5-6000 RPMS at least once a month to prevent that or $3000. You can Appraise it here. I don't know all your options, color, etc. but in my zip code the range for an average Disco II of that vintage with "some" options runs $7,318 trade-in to $9,858 dealer retail. You can get yet another opinion in the Real-World Trade-In Values discussion. They'll also tell you in there that books don't buy cars.

Check out Kelley Blue Book. It shows $5,500 for your vehicle in "fair" condition as the trade in my zip area of Eastern LI, NY. I recently bought a 99 Disco II for $7,000 from a private party that I thought was in tip top shape. Considering DISCO II w/New engine

HELP. A guy has a 2000 DISCO II w/105K miles. Land Rover replaced the engine at 100,000 miles, incl crankshaft main seal, he got it all. Everything checks out good, he replaced rotors 12 months ago. Even has 12month warranty on motor and labor. Motor now has 70 miles on it, he said that they kept it and drove it for 3 days after the work was completed. pretty smart guy ... Read More

Dkibler, sounds like you have found a very nice Land Rover with very low miles. And, the owner is a mechanic and understands the vehicle and how it was maintained, etc. I would buy it if I were you. Would this imply that Land Rover recalled the SUV for some Major Reason and the Owner may or may have not taken the SUV in for service? We purchased a 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II last October in San Diego. Its a Silver SE7, with ACE and lightstone interior. As a side note, it did not have the rear air.
