What I can tell you is only buy a 2003 or newer. A TON of problems were fixed with that year including a better engine. The 99-02 has a modified GM Buick V8 that has an issue with build-up on the heads. Seriously, you have to gun it to reach 5-6000 RPMS at least once a month to prevent that or $3000. The 2003 got a more powerful and reliable engine ... Read More
You can Appraise it here. I don't know all your options, color, etc. but in my zip code the range for an average Disco II of that vintage with "some" options runs $7,318 trade-in to $9,858 dealer retail. You can get yet another opinion in the Real-World Trade-In Values discussion. They'll also tell you in there that books don't buy cars.
Check out Kelley Blue Book. It shows $5,500 for your vehicle in "fair" condition as the trade in my zip area of Eastern LI, NY. I recently bought a 99 Disco II for $7,000 from a private party that I thought was in tip top shape. I've put in more than $3K motor and transmission work since and wish I had paid a dealer $8K or $9K for the benefits of ... Read More
Any idea how much a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II with 53,000 miles should go for? I have a trade in quote for $5000 but think it is worth much more. It has a lot of features, TV, rear air, etc. Any help would be great.
HELP. A guy has a 2000 DISCO II w/105K miles. Land Rover replaced the engine at 100,000 miles, incl crankshaft main seal, he got it all. Everything checks out good, he replaced rotors 12 months ago. Even has 12month warranty on motor and labor. Motor now has 70 miles on it, he said that they kept it and drove it for 3 days after the work was completed. pretty smart guy ... Read More
I recently aquired a 2000 Discovery II. My first question is about the center locking diff. I understand that the Discovery II's still have the ability to lock the center diff, but it is a manual function only. How do I go about locking my center diff if it becomes neccessary? I may never need to do so, but I would like to know just in case. Second, did BMW continue ... Read More
Referring to my first message (#4478-March 12,'06), I replaced the wiper arm and blade with new parts and the same issue of improper tension on the glass remained, resulting in uncleared glass on each swipe right in the line of sight. Has anyone had this problem? I have improvised by wrapping double sided rubber tape on the U shaped plastic guide clip at its bottom where the blade rests (and seats ... Read More
After rolling a new 2003 Grand Cherokee a couple of years ago I've leapt into the world of Land Rover with great enthusiasm. A never forgotten fraction of a second when realizing I was being let down by that vehicle, the hope is that with this Disco II will be more intuitive - and communicate impending roll overs BEFORE it's too late. The 330 km drive home from the GM dealer ... Read More
Dkibler, sounds like you have found a very nice Land Rover with very low miles. And, the owner is a mechanic and understands the vehicle and how it was maintained, etc. I would buy it if I were you. The miles are SO low! I agree with Burosky, I would not buy an extended warranty either as I think they are a waste and never seem to cover everything. I don't ... Read More

Hello, My wife and I are new to these boards. We've owned a Land Rover before (2000 Series II) and are considering buying a used 2003 SE7. We've found one at Land Rover Denver South (although we only want to deal with Land Rover Flatirons - which is near Boulder where we live and is the dealership that we worked with last time). I've seen people posting VIN numbers on here ... Read More
Hi, I currently own a 2000 Yukon 2WD. Love it, but I'm piling on tons of miles, and since it's 2WD it's not the best thing to drive in snow - although it usually does just fine! I'm thinking of buying a used Discovery II or Range Rover for running back & forth to work, winter-time use, etc. I was amazed at the low prices! You can get a used mid-late ... Read More
My wife is demanding a Discovery and I have an auto broker looking for a 2000. I'd appreciate any suggestions with respect to the options to look for. For example, should I get one with ACE? Also, if I find one with 30,000 miles, I've identified an extended warranty, full coverage, for $2,300 (4 years & 100,000). Since any warranty companies won't cover Land Rovers I assume I should jump on ... Read More
Got a safety recall notice from Land Rover NA for my 2000 Disco II Re: Throttle Cable Sticking Inappropriate ABS Activation.
I recently (2/01) purchased a 2000 Land Rover with ACE and all options except 7 ps and have thoroughly enjoyed the car ever since. I purchased 3 dealer add-ons - California burlwood trim kit, cd player, and brush guard with lights. After 7500 miles, I can gladly say that I have encountered none of the problems I've heard about from other owners on this board. I'm starting to think that the ... Read More
Would this imply that Land Rover recalled the SUV for some Major Reason and the Owner may or may have not taken the SUV in for service? I feel good about the millage and really don't have a problem with the fact that the SUV is a 1998 versus 1999,2000 2001 etc. For the price, performance and quality for some reason I feel better about purchasing a used Range than a ... Hey Tincup- our vin is #YA242528. What's our birthday? Love the truck thus far- we have camped in it (we are shorter in stature, so folding the seats down and sleeping in the back is not too bad), brought the bikes out (with a hitch mounted Yakima rack- although the back is inaccessible with the rack on) and attended a LR picnic event where we could offroad to the best of ... HI! I am looking to purchase a 2000 Disco II. It's a great deal with the leather package and is prewired for the CD changer. Here's my question: The dealer says I can only get the Land Rover make CD changer if I want it to work with the controls on the steering wheel--except that is $700 CD player! Can I use a third party player that will work with the ... Read More
Happened across this message board and it seems like a great place to ask questions! So here's mine: we're thinking of buying a 2001 Discovery II SE and are not too familiar with its reputation in terms of maintenance and reliablity. We're not ones to buy a vehicle, get tired of it and resell - our current cars all have over 100K miles on them. So how long can we expect ... Read More
nanuq and trc2 were kind enough to respond to my bike rack question last summer, but I wonder if anyone has an update (nanuq wasn't sure if his particular style would work with my 2000 Disco II). So, any bike rack recommendations for a 2000 Disco II? As a side note, I am *extremely* happy with my Disco II. I love the vehicle, but I also have to say that I've ... Read More
I Just purchases a 2000 Land Rover Discovery II and am looking for after market accessories like Mats and luggage carriers. Any suggestions? HRConsulting@hotmail.com
We purchased a 2001 Land Rover Discovery Series II last October in San Diego. Its a Silver SE7, with ACE and lightstone interior. As a side note, it did not have the rear air. The benefit is you have more rear cargo room than rear air equipped vehicles. Based on several of the negative posts on this site, we were somewhat skeptical to proceed, but based on comparison test drives of ... Read More
About one year ago I purchased a new 2000 Discovery II fully loaded from Land Rover Mission Viejo, California. My experience was not a pretty one. After driving the truck home, the next morning at startup the drivers seat failed to work and the ACE suspension also failed and would not work, due to a broken ACE actuator. Taking 2 weeks to get a part to fix. Next the truck would ... Read More
I'd like to invite all you new (and old) LR owners to come and join the Colorado LR club, the "Solihull Society", for their "National Land Rover Rally" off-road event August 2 thru 5, in Quray, Co. It's a family affair, lots of Rovers of all types, and you can see what these things will do. Really do ! Go to their web page and find out more (just search for ... Read More
There are 9 used Discover II in the San Francisco Chronicel Newpaper this weekend. The most I have seen ever. I wonder why everybody is selling their 1999 and 2000 Discos so soon. One can only guess they are not happy or the truck was not what they expected. Maintenace problems???? http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/classifieds/ctxquery?t=Land+Rover&sc=420&mod=any&date=28-Jan-2001&Submit=Search
