I am having the same issues and i was wondering if you had gotten it fixed or if you even found out the what the problem was.
when i turn on either my air conditioning or anything in the unit nothing comes out. all the lights go on such as defogger and air condition but no air comes out. i also checked relay fuse and it is ok.
Wow!!! My 2006 kia sportage is doing the same thing!! I noticed what I thought was the transmission slipping a few weeks ago. My check engine light is on now. I also noticed a rotten egg smell. From what I researched, that is the catalytic converter. It should be covered under the warranty. I just hope the power issues WILL be fixed with the new converter. I'm calling the dealer on ... I have exact same problem same year, same make and model. Let me know what you find out. It is really getting annoying.
After my car warms up the engine starts to bogg down hard for a start from 0-15mph then it smooths out and drives fine. Unless you use "WOT" wide open throttle at greater speeds then 25 then you can feel it a lil. It started when the weather got real cold in the teens and wind chill factor below 0 degrees. The car has 56000 miles on it. Only thing i"ve ... Read More
Kia has recently started notifying owners of certain 2006 & 2007 Sportages about a recall for this same reason. They state the problem is: "The Stop lamp switch in your vehicle may have been damaged during the assembly process. As a result, the stop lamp switch may malfunction causing one or more of the following conditions to exist: * The brake lights may not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed. ... Read More
Hi- I bought a 2006 Sportage EX fully loaded and love it. I'm getting ready to take my first trip tomorrow. I will tell you that I drive 37 mi a day round trip to work and I work 6 days a week, and I only fill up one time per week. I'm looking forward to finding out how much my highway trip will cost me. I dont travel on a ... Read More
I don't know if anyone else has gotten this issue resolved, but here's the scoop. I had the EXACT same symptoms on my 2006 Sportage V6 LX. Nobody, even the Albuquerque dealer where I purchased the car, could identify what the heck was happening. One time the dealer's mechanic even said that it was my gas cap leaking. LOL! I remember the first time I had that power drop and loud ... Read More
I am experiencing this same issue and am about to purchase a whole new set of tires at a hundred or so a pop. Is there something that the dealer is doing in response to this issue? Are they offering or do I need to raise hell with the local Kia dealer to get this rectified at a much lower cost? I don't mind paying 200 for a replacement fee. It's ... Read More
Thank you! This gives me at least one place to get started. I'll give it a looking at. Thanks again! :)
About freak brake lights: ground problems/contacts have been a common issue with the former model...maybe it has been carried on to the new model even if a totally different car..but this kind of "light" problem has happened for decades in all cars anyway. I had same issue with left headlight (2000) a month ago...turned out the ground contact inside the headbeam connector had gone awry.... 2 and 3: mmm...ESC...not familiar with ... Read More
Hello everybody...new to this, so I apologize if I do something wrong (and a relatively new car owner, so I don't even know where to start)! There are few things that keep happening to my car, and I'm wondering if they are all related. If so, does anybody know where I should start? 1st: the rear brake lights are on the fritz. Sometimes they all work fine, sometimes the left side ... Read More
the exact same thing is happening to my 2006 sportage. Dealer says diagnostics turns up nothing. Major safety issue. I would be curious to see if anyone else has a clue what causes this.
Our 2006 Kia Sportage required new tires after only 22,000 of the 60,000 guaranteed. We had to pay about $200 as 'our part' of replacing all 4 tires. Now THOSE tires have only about 12,000 miles and are already down to 7/32 of the original 10/32. What gives with this tire wear? I am guaranteed by BFG, my KIA dealers, and the tire guy that the tires are the correct ones ... Read More
Glad to hear that you're getting satisfaction with the K&N. The CAI is a cold air intake, and it forces more cold air into the engine. The K&N filter does the same thing as a CAI but on a lesser scale. I ran the KIA from the WV/MD area to the Jersey shore at about 80 mph. I avg'd. 24.44 mpg. I too am laughing at the Toyota and Honda owners ... Read More
Could someone please tell me why Consumer Reports has given the 2005-2006 Kia Sportages such dismal (much worse than average) reliability ratings? I haven't seen anything here that indicates this. Mostly I see that people really like their cars...except for fuel economy (me included)and that very few problems are reported. This is rather distressing - am I to expect my car to fall apart? Obviously, I'm not too car savvy. I ... Read More

last winter I wrote sevral articles about how lousy my 2006 4wd Sportage was ....I estimated about 10 miles to a US gallon at the worst of it in -20F temp. at mid point on my gas gauge I was hitting 100 km (60 miles with 25 liters or 5 imp. gallons gone in the tank !! Summer is here now I can get 200km on a half tank or... about ... Read More
After I replied to your last message I looked up Magnaflow web site on the internet and doesn't appear to show any mufflers for KIA. The only thing they had was tips.
I have a 2005 Kia Sportage EX. I put in a K&N filter, the mechanic at Kia that I talked to told me NOT to get the intake system, the vehicle already has cold air intake. It comes in right in the front under the grill. He said if you buy the whole system, it takes air from inside the engine compartment. I also put in a different exhaust system. I ... Read More
2006 V6 4WD and just turned 4800 km. The gas mileage has stayed about the same since I bought it even though the weather is quite a bit colder. So I am hoping it will get even better once spring hits. GASC
I live in the Ottawa area, have a 2006 Sportage V6 and get between 420 to 440 Km per tank (mix of city and highway roughly 60/40 split). You should be getting a little better mileage than you are if it is all highway driving.
My wife and I are moving to the U.S. Virgin Islands, and we are giving serious thought to buying a slightly used 2005 or new 2006 Kia Sportage. We have not decided whether we will buy the car stateside and have it shipped, or instead whether we will buy the car from the Kia dealer on the islands. St. Thomas is very hilly and some of the grades are fairly steep. ... Read More
Willabeast - My LX V6 4WD came with all of the above. I believe the combination of the V6 & 4WD adds more features. I remember reading that on one of the Kia websites. as the truth. If Kia is saying that it would only improve the operation of the ESC it's true. They know their own systems the best. They'll probably just plug their systems computer diagnoster into your car's computer and type in some program that just updates it. By the time you have a snack and a Vanilla Diet Dr.Pepper they'll be calling for you to come pick up your car. When ... Read More
"Second stickers" are quite common at "a lot" of dealerships, not just Kia. Those alloy wheels are on that vehicle, plus pinstripe, window etching, "paint sealant" and many other additional "PROFIT" items. Buy the car the way "YOU" want it!!!
This is an educated guess, but I think it very unlikely the Sportage (and Tucson) will get the 3.3L V6 from the Sonata. This is because the base engine on the new Santa Fe is supposed to be the new-and-improved 2.7L V6. I can't see Kia (and Hyundai) putting a more powerful engine in their small SUV than they put in their (base) large SUV. But we can hope.
Any insights into whether Kia is releasing any 2006 models with a more powerful V6?.
The 2006 Forester is completely updated for this year offering 173hp in the base model, and various improvements on the brakes, transmission, etc. Not sure about the airbags though- it has head and torso side-airbags and scored "GOOD" on the side impact tests. Not bad even without curtains. Price-wise it will be intersting to see how close the base-model '06 Forester comes to the AWD V6 Sportage. If it came down ... Read More
I don't understand auto "critics". My wife has a new Sportage (EX 4WD, V-6). I see nothing underpowered about this vehicle. Where are these people conducting their tests, Indy? I remarked last night that the Sportage quickly accelerates and gets way beyond the speed limit if you don't pay attention. I am here to say that even with four adults on board, this thing moves out. The Sportage is also has ... Read More
Just read the largely favorable Car and Driver review online (http://www.caranddriver.com/article.asp?section_id=3&article_id=9396) noting that their only complaints were the seating (soft and tiring) and engine (underpowered). I have also read that Kia is already preparing a new engine for 2006. My own test drives confirm the observations in the article. That having been said, I wonder if I should delay purchase of a 2005 model and wait until next year's version, not ... Read More
over to Springfield, MO, the town Brad Pitt's from, to get the Sporty's 90,000 mile service over Winter Break sometime. I'll scan their sales lot really well for any new entries. BTW-Kia's Rio for 2006 looks hot! The more I look at the 2005 Sportage the more I like it. I think that compared to my '01 Sport 4x4 it will ride like a car. The old Sportage design is a ...
