It sounds like your evaporator is freezing the condensation and blocking the airflow. this is usually caused by a faulty thermostat inside the HVAC unit. Folks, I had a problem with A/C getting cold then sputtering out. Landed in Antigonish Nova Scotia after traveling from Calgary. You didn't say what the negotiated price or taxes/fees were, but when I was looking at a lease of a Sportage just like yours recently, I was able to get a price of invoice less holdback, or about $18,300, with very little negotiating. You might have a mechanic check the idle speed control sensor. when this sensor goes bad the idle goes up and down similar to your problem :)

Sportage 2005..small orange light just above the headlight and to the right is burned out. YOu have to take the headlight cluster out to change that bulb. Check this out that I picked up from KIa website. You can register at www.kiatechinfo.com and browse through and download almost anything about your car.

In my opinion, CR has a bias against car makers for a long time. For example Not until recently did they even consider Hyundai a safe car to drive. 2005 Kia Sportage EX 4x4. I use this vehicle for meter reading with lots of stops and idling. I got about 18 MPG during the time that I read meters with it. When my wife drives it she gets about 20-21 MPG with about 50/50 city/highway driving. Currently has about 15,000 miles on it.

Alignment issues
Our 2005 kia has seemed to pull to the right since we bought it. It's been to the dealer a couple of times to try and correct this problem, each time it comes back a little better but eventually gets worse again. Is the Sportage naturally aligned this way? We bought our 2005 Kia Sportage Diesel in August this year and absolutely love it. My wife drives it in and around town most of the time and i do, when going away over a week-end. It is very economical at 10km/l in town and 12.5km/l on the open road. We have the same problem with wind noise and found it to be coming from the left-side mirror.

New ESC campaign
We got a notice from Kia to bring back my wife's 2005 Sportage for another reprogramming of the ESC. This is not the second ESC recall but a safety campign. Kia claims the ESC works fine but this is a tweak to make it better.

Wind Noise
I have recently purchased a 2005 Kia Sportage Diesel. What a lovely vehicle - great Diesel economy too. However one small niggle. When driving into a strong wind (at around 110/120Km's)a strange high pitch hum/whine sound comes and goes. I have wonderd if the roof racks cause this as it is very irratating. It only happens into a oncoming strong wind. Any other similar experiences out there.

I have a question about the 2005 Kia
Sportage's side moulding, or possible lack of it. Do all 2005 Kia Sportage trims offer side moulding on the doors or door sills down below to stop possible shopping cart damage? Or do only the upper trim levels offer this protection?

It might be your exhaust system. I had a 2005 Chrysler 300C and many owners complained of a vibration at 55 mph. Turns out that the exhaust would resonate at this speed and cause a vibration felt by the owners. What basically happens is that your exhaust acts like a tuning fork per se. I have put almost 10,000 miles on my sportage (4wd, 2.7 v6), and have been experiencing an annoying vibration. Recently I emailed SaferCar.gov the government agency that crash tests vehicles. They told me that neither the 2005 Kia Sportage nor the 2005 Hyundai Tucson would tested as they are not "popular, high volume" vehicles and that is only what they test, seeing as according to them that's what most Americans buy.

Recently purchased a 2005 Kia Sportage Luxury EX, V6, with 4-wheel drive. It currently has over 500 miles, and I haven't seen much improvement in gas mileage since I bought it. As far as towing goes
on this handsome new 2005 Kia Sportage here is some information. The Sportage's brakes are discs all around, with 215/65R-16 tires on four-cylinder models and 235/60R-16s on 4x4s. The Sportage also will tow a weight of 1500 lbs. with four-cylinder models, 2000 lb with V-6 versions. There have been two recalls so far related to the 2005 Sportage. The ESP is one recall for a programming error. If your Sportage has not been recalled and the reprogramming accomplished then you need to have it corrected as it might just solve your problem. The second recall is for the gas tank.

I liked that "tippy" angle and how well it shows off the new handsome front end on the 2005 Kia Sportage. It has a great looking set of headlights, with all of the mirrored lights and that grille looks great, how they separate the trimwork and such. A work of SUV art IMHO! :D :) :D :)

Hello janetedit, Today I made a call to my dealer and scheduled a inspection for the recall, so they were asking me if I got the letter, so KIA Canada is doing some think after all this time. Sportage Leg Comfort
I test drove a 2005 Kia Sportage and went back to sit in it again, and found a possible problem for me. There does not seem to be a comfortable place to rest my right leg against when driving with my foot on the accelerator then on the brake. I'm 6 foot 3 inches tall. Does anyone else have this problem, or is it just me?

Sportage is a huge and mainly pleasant surprise from Kia.

Kia Canada's point today was that *nobody* has been contacted in Canada yet because they haven't got a release date. Even if it turns out my vehicle isn't included based on the VIN #, I have a different ECU (ECM?) computer than the one originally installed in my vehicle. I just read that you can get a new 2005 Kia Sportage
with side-curtain airbags and 2.0L 4-cylinder engine with 4WD available as an option. That little tidbit of information has solidly put this new rig as #1 on my list. Oh, the Long-Haul Warranty is still available? These guys are absolutely incredible.

No, but I read online tonight that the 2005
Sportage with the 2.0L 4 cylinder will be available in AWD only and 5-speed manual transmission. Works well for me! Will keep looking for clearance specs online and at Kia dealerships. Anyone find anything about the 2005 Kia Sportage please post it here!

I had my Sportage 4x4 in for it's 90,000 mile
service today and talked to a salesman aboout the new 2005 Sportage. He said theirs are coming in in February. The 2005 Kia Sportage will have power sunroof standard on the EX V6 model only. A/C will be optional on the LX I4 2WD manual transmission model(the one I'm interested in)and cruise control will be standard equipment on the LX V6 and EX V6 models. It'll also have some nice ... I want to know everything I can about it. Hopefully manual transmission will still be offered on the new Sportage. I already wondered that and went to the Kia site. Kia will call the new 2005 Kia Sportage the Kia Sportage. Sounds redundant, but they said that the original mini-SUV that Kia made famous in the Sportage must remain to keep consumer identity worldwide. So, there you have it. Sportage it is. My 2001 is running like the true champion it is.
