I had the same problem! Bought the 2008 Nov. 2010 used with 23,700 miles on it and over the summer was hearing a whining noise that kept getting worse. By that time I had 40K on it and the repair man said it was the differential that needed replacing. I submitted for warranty and KIA refused sayig that I failed to perfrom the 22k mile check on the vehicle which included ... Read More
RE: 2008 KIA Sorento-I just replaced my old 05 Sorento with a new one, so I'm a avid fan of the Sorento. I've had this problem with my 05 and it was a pesky sensor. They can run a quick diagnostic and see if it's related to another issue and isolate the error message. The KIA dealer/mechanic might just need to reset, as was done on mine.
My 2008 Sorento has both High and Low 4x4. And I had the ESC off/check engine light problem, as well. they initally thought it was the transfer case and I had it repaired at a local shop before taking it to Kia who repaired it (or so they thought). Picked it up and it did it again. They finally had to completely replace the sensor. Interesting to know other people have ... Read More
I also have a 2008 Kia Sorento that we purchased a month ago with 34k miles on it. We also started having the esc off/check engine problem while on a road trip. It happened 10 times in 2 days, but unfortunately we were in the middle of no where when it started happening and had to wait till we got home. Have there been any recalls for this? Seems to be ... i have a kia sorento which i bought in 2009. it was a new vehicle, i purchased it in march of 2009. 2008 Kia stalls and hesitates until the engine reaches full operating temperature. Have returned 3 times to the dealer and the problem re-occurs after a few hundred miles.
I have a 2008 Kia Sorento with just over 34,000 miles on it and am on my second experience with the ESC OFF problem. The first time was July 2010, car was taken to a dealership and they replaced the sensor and car worked fine until this past Monday. I started my car to warm it up and after 10 minutes I returned to the car to leave and noticed that ... Read More
I did not go back to the dealer, however I think I solved the rotor problem. I bought slotted rotors NOT made by Kia (they do not heat up like the stock parts) and had them installed. So far so good. If the dealer ever tells you the rotors need replacement, DO NOT let them use Kia parts. I got them from Auto Parts Warehouse on the net. http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/sku/Kia/Sorento/Centric/Brake_Disc/2007/LX/6_C- yl_3-dot-8L/CE120-dot-50019.html?loc=Front&tlc=Brakes%2C+Suspension+%26+Steering-
I have a 2007 Sorento and love the it, EXCEPT FOR THE FRONT ROTORS. With 40,000 miles I have had three new sets of rotors installed and each have been resurfaced at least once. About every 7,000 miles they warp and require repair. Went thru the usual motions...arguing with the dealer, KIA Customer Service(?), etc. They blame my driving habits. My last car, a PT Cruiser, had 120,000 miles on it ... Read More
We had the same problem and we kept taking the kia back to the dealer because an adult would sit in the passenger seat and the airbag light would stay on. My Kia Sorento had 495 miles when I bought it. I use it for long business trips, so lots of hi way miles. Now at 25,000 miles the problems are adding up! It has the passenger airbag problem. There is a new noise, it sounds like a dial tone, very loud, not coming from the engine or affecting the RPM's. I would have thought it was like the sound of engine ... Read More
Not sure of the year they changed, but my 2008 has the Hyundai 3.75ltr engine, which has the chain. It's the same engine that's in the base Genesis and Genesis Coupe, but detuned to 270hp. It's 300 in the Genesis and 330 in the Coupe. Don't think any KIA engines are being used anymore in the Sorento.
I have had the same problems as well as many others. I bought mine on July 21, 2008 two weeks later on 8-11 I had to take it in because of the passenger side airbag light would be on when someone would be sitting in the passenger side. I agree with all you have to say about the noises. My husband and I both agree that each time we drive it; there are more noises. I have to give a mixed review. No problems with the tranny. It's turning into a rattle trap. Seems like about once a week I find a new rattle or squeak in it. Say the airbag light didn't go out a couple of times....BUT I noticed that it is not when you actually sit in the seat that triggers the light. It is somehow with the door closing all the way. I am still having a problem with my "passenger airbag off" warning light. It happens intermittingly. The car was purcashed in May of this year but it was a 2008 leftover. In response to the post below: One of the things they did when trying to fix the noise in our Sorento was work on the brakes. Is anyone having problems with the passenger side airbag lite remaining on when there is a passenger sitting in the seat? There has been an OCS recall for the 2007/2008 kia sorento's in May 2009. That sounds awful. Have you had your dealer inspect the vehicle? If so, what did they say? Regarding the airbags, they won't deploy until some threshold levels of deceleration and speed are reached reached. For example, they would not deploy if the car's speed were below about 12 mph. tidester, host SUVs and Smart Shopper

Hope to confirm what engine that the 2007 Kia Sorento will use. Rumors indicate that a 3.8L V6 (263hp) from Hyundai Azera will be used. But several recent articles showed a 3.3L V6 with 235hp. Are they going to safe the 3.8L V6 on 2008 Sorento, a totally redesigned model?
I saw the spy photo on the same website a month ago. It was just a front end shot. Still no picture about the tailgate design now. The previous article (same site) mentioned a possible 3.8L V6 engine from 2006 Hyundai Azera, not 3.3L. They also claimed a whole new interior design for 2007 Sorento. I guess we won't see a totally redesigned Sorento until 2008 model year. I just saw a picture of a 2007 Sorento with minor change with the headlights, bumper and grill. They mentioned the interior is all new with a rumor of a 3.8L V6 from Hyundai Azera.
According to Car & Driver... A restyling and reengineering is expected, to accept a new 3.8-liter V-6 and a 5-speed automatic, and a possible 3rd-row seat. And from ConsumerGuide...
