Fueling issue on 2003
Has any else had issues when fueling this vehicle? After a few dollars are pumped the gas sprays back out and gets you covered in gas. It takes 20 minutes to slowly pump gas to eliminate this from happening. This started happening 2 months ago. Mileage was under 70k. I have a 2003 Kia Sorento w/83k miles. Placing a new timing belt, How do I know when I have the correct tension on the new belt? I had to replace the tensioner pulley also, I made a tool to place in the holes of the tensioner pulley so that I could apply pressure, it works great, so great I afraid I might have it to tight. 2011 Sorento curb weight: 3763 lbs....175hp/169 ft-lbs torque 2.4L I4 engine 2003 Accord curb weight: 3128 lbs....160hp/161 ft-lbs torque 2.4L I4 engine -Should not be that much difference in mileage. Sorento is heavier but has more torque and horsepower. I still believe the difference is mainly final drive ratio. Why wouldn't KIA make better use of the 6th gear?

How to remove the rear rotor on a 2003 Kia Sorento
I got the brake pad caliper off and the two screws from the factory, but the rotor feels stuck. I heard about combination brakes on some cars where they have both disk for stopping and drum for emergency brakes. It is probable the drum brake shoes are holding it in place. How do I loosen them enough to get the rotor off? Lindy

Problem w/ heater
My 2003 Kia Sorento, has a problem with it's heater. Only works intermittently at high speed. Also, the reservoir appears to lose coolant though I can not seem to find any leaks in the system. Anyone have any ideas? I'm freezing my tail off.

The reliability for both cars is good. If you look at the Identifix ratings here at Edmunds, the Sorento has all green checks for minimal problems dating back to 2003. if you have never had the coolant reservoir replaced (plastic tank on the left rear of the engine compartment as I recall)....it is probably cracked on the bottom (known problem with this reservoir in early models)...and that is what is leaking....part runs around $90-100 plus install....if you have a few tools....you can install it your self...otherwise..expect and 1/2 hour to an hour labor charge.....in addition to the part....for around $175-$200 for ... We must be blessed. We recently had the crankshaft bolt replaced at 83,000 (covered under recall) and the coolant tank started leaking. Automatic door lock
Initially, my 2003 Kia Sorento had a perfect door lock/ security system. suddenly, the system became very erratic. The doors do not lock automatically again when I'm inside with the ignition on as was the case. Even the lock button on the driver's door does not control the locks anymore. I looked at the bill (dealer's copy) for my last warranty repair in two months ago. It was like $1900 plus two weeks of dealer's loaner. AND my time (= money) too!

2004 Sorento EX pur 12/31/2004 (traded in my 2003 with $30K and NO problems to get a new one with a new warranty due to a great trade-in and $3K rebate) also have had NO problems. I just checked out the NHTSA site and found this recall notice for some 2003 Kia Sorento. It affected some 2935 units in 2003 model year which produced from June 7, 2002 to August 14, 2002. 21,000km no much problems
