ReviewLooked for a car to replace 2000 Toyota Echo. Shopping for price, dependability and fuel mileage. Drove Yaris, Prius C, Nissan Sentra but settled on Rio hatchback. Sold on styling both inside and out, price and warranty. Fuel mileage is okay, not special. 38 to 40 mpg is tough to swallow coming from 42 to 45 mpg. Didn't see the Yaris being any better. Prius C was too pricey for what I wanted. 6 speed manual transmission is good, though the gears are quite close together. Normal driving is easy to skip gears. Bought manual because paying for an automatic is a rip off.
Best FeaturesAgain like the styling. Headlights are very good. Hatchback is good. Wheels placed at the corners of the car really plants the car in the corners. Twistys are fun again. Great brakes, they will stop you in a heartbeat. Electric power steering works well, though it takes a little to get used to. Runs along 70 on the freeway with little effort, though the fuel mileage suffers somewhat. Like the warranties. We will see how they work out over time. Looks easy to maintain. Service, brakes, suspension, etc.
Worst FeaturesVision is not good out of the vehicle, especially the back. Have to be very cautious backing up. Side windows are not very tall and are restrictive. Rear view mirror limits front vision. All in all you have to be paying attention to all blind spots, there are plenty of them. Head restraints are angled too far forward for comfort. Solved that by reversing them. (Why they adjust forward to make a bad situation worse confuses me). 138 horsepower is plenty of power. Could tune down the engine and get better fuel mileage. Don't shove unnecessary doo dads on the car. I.E. $70 "rear bumper applique". Most insulting piece of clear plastic I ever bought. Didn't buy other vehicles due to those.
