Re: 2006 Kia Rio 5 Power Loss [neanderbob]
This happened to my Rio 5 also. To make a long story short, we figured out it was the Keys. They security chip in the key failed and needed to be reprogrammed. We figured this out when I decided to bring my spare key to the repair shop in case they needed to replace the ignition but when they tried starting it with the spare key it started with no problem. Tried again with ... Read More...
Re: 2006 Kia rio hatchback battery issues [lboogie0617]
I bought a used 2006 rio about 3 months ago. It has less than 50000 miles. The battery has drained on me 2 times. The first time I was at home so it wasn't a big deal. I have 24hour roadside assistance with my insurance so someone came to jump it and I drove it to the dealer. They said the battery was drained and they recharged it. I didn't know what had caused it to drain. ... Read More...

rear wheel bearings
I own a 2002 Kia Rio. Now that the warranty has went out, I have experienced several problems. In 2006, I had the rear wheel bearings replaced. Just 2 yrs later, I have to now replace them again. The service guy said that they have been having trouble with the bearings and they were replacing them every 40,000 miles. But I only have about 75,000 miles on my car now and ... Read More...

Re: 08 kia rio [rioowner]
Howdy again, well for the most part I drive a 2006 Hyundai Sonata LX V6, but I also have a 2002 Mercury Sable Wagon also V6.. and basically don';t get very good mileage with either one of them. But then again I drive mostly short trips in town, and have averaged less than 7500 miles total last year counting them both. Anyway the Sonata gets an overall avg of 18+mpg for ... Read More...
2006 Kia Rio 5 Power Loss
Very occasionally, as in 6-7 times in 18 months our 2006 Kia Rio 5 (manual trans) has experienced a sudden 2-3 second loss in engine power. It feels like the ignition is suddenly cut and the car decellerates quickly, not really dangerous on the highway where momentum and 5th gear keep you rolling, but around town in 2nd or 3rd gear it's certainly a big surprise for ... Tire Wear
My 2006 Kia Rio 5 has Kumho Solus HP4 Plus 716 P tires all around. They are P195/55R15 84V M+S. I have 10300 miles on the car - bought it new Labor Day 2006. There is excessive wear on the front tires..they are nearly down to the wear indicators in the center treads. I had it in to the dealer last week and they were not helpful. Said it was not an alignment problem or camber ... Read More...

2006 Kia Rio Lemon
Has anyone else had a lot of mechanical problems with an 06 Kia Rio? I've had mine in the shop nonstop for various reasons: transmission, the power cuts out while driving, power steering, etc. The worst car dealer in the world, Jerry Smith Kia in Skagit and Whatcom county, WA, refuses to work on it anymore. They have yet to take any responsibilty for a poorly made ... Read More...
