Just bough (March 1st) a 2010 Kia Forte LX, just for the economy. After all I drive 120 miles a day (Northwest NY) and filling up was getting expensive with my Jeep Wrangler. It's gratifying to read that you've gotten nearly 250K miles from your "lowly" Hyundai Elantra GT. Perhaps it'll quiet some of the Hyundai bashers out there. I think you'll be happy with your decision to get a Forte EX 5-door. The 2.0-L engine has plenty of oomph, especially with the manual transmission. In spite of the torsion-beam rear suspension and the lack of a rear anti-sway bar, it handles much better ... Read More

I test drove both vehicles for half a day and both drove very smoothly. I would have to say that both the interior and exterior design of the Kia Forte was better than the Corolla and it had more extras, bells and whistles, etc. The Kia has the more powerful 2 liter compared to the Corolla 1.8 but I have to drive an hour to work each day so I wanted ... Backy, I'm generalizing about Toyota vs. Kia just as you did in your post of #33. I was refering to a "Dangerous Car List" of experts, not your own list or my own list. IIHS is an independent testing organization funded by vehicle insurance ... Read More
Well your right, Toyota missed the mark in 2010 for safety and I won't argue for the 2010 Corolla being more safe than the Forte. But we can debate is that Toyota had eleven of their models on the IIHS "list of safest vehicles" for 2009 while Kia had none! And we can also state that Kia made the Forbes Magazines"most dangerous vehicles" list based on IIHS testing in the small ... Read More
I think it's hard to justify a claim of Toyota leading ANYONE in safety with millions of its cars, including the 2010 Corolla, recalled for a safety-related defect. Toyota can't even claim a single vehicle as an IIHS Top Safety Pick. Kia at least has one, the Soul. The Forte hasn't been tested by the IIHS yet. How is the 2010 Corolla superior to the Forte in safety?

just wanted to say that iam really impressed with the little touches that my forte has such as illuminated window switches on the drivers side door for all four windows and the auto-locking and unlocking doors when you put the car in drive and unlocking the doors when put into park.i looked at some more expensive cars that didn't have these features.mazda 6,mazda 3,toyota corolla, just to name a few.
The "New" EPA window stickers are pessimistic in my eyes. I've NEVER gotten highway mileage as bad as those stickers indicate I should be getting, and I don't drive 55 everywhere, and I also like to hear the VTEC snarl at 6000 RPM! The old EPA numbers are a pretty good indication of what mileage I can expect.
would say below 30 mpg all around and probably closer to about 25 which is what the mpg city estimates say on the window sticker. Ah, those window stickers! Their numbers are either optimistic or hallucinatory ...
my fuel economy isn't as good as i had hoped for although i only have 5000 miles on the car and it's still breaking in.hopefully, the fuel economy will improve as i put more miles on the car...however it is i would say below 30 mpg all around and probably closer to about 25 which is what the mpg city estimates say on the window sticker.

Let's talk about the new Forte!
I think there are three types of odometers. You can click your odometer (there is a pin I believe) ant check with odometer A, B and C something like that. I think you pick the local trip odometer which will be automatically reset after 1000 mile drive.
I had wondered about the 4-door unlocking myself. I asked the salesman about it, and he thought that it was programmable: no unlocking, driver's door only, or all doors. It's probably mentioned in the manual.
I also have the EX trim level Sedan that is Dark cherry metallic. I'm not copying you or anything, but the Dark Cherry was the prettiest one in the lot. I will enjoy my new car. Thanks!
congrats on your kia forte purchase.iam sure you will enjoy the car..which model did you get??i have the EX.you don't need a key hole on the trunk because of the remote trunk opener on the key fob.and i actually like the auto unlocking doors..comes in handy when i want to access the rear seat to take out packages or to put packages in after i have stopped the car..enjoy the car!!!!!!!! ... I was over at my dealer getting my 48,000 km service done on my Rondo and picked up a copy of "Inside Kia" (Canadian issue) for October and saw this information: [I]"Forte 5-door. ajri02, My personal opinion is to get the Honda, especially if you plan on keeping this car through high mileage.
