Thanks colloquor for the suggestions. They're worth trying, because Kia is giving me nothing! I'll pass on my findings. Re: timing belt change (#1363) - my manual also states 30 K, but when I checked with the service manager (because that seemed awfully low to me), he said that was erroneous. It is 60 K.
I had a similar problem with my 2005. I had it in to the Kia dealership several times, but they couldn't figure it out. I finally took it to a trusted repair shop and they replaced the fuel pump. That was a year and a half ago and I haven't had the problem since. They also advised me to run a higher octane gas. Hope this helps you.
the radio was making strange noises through the speakers even when it was turned off. The speakers had been silent for a long time, now the radio turns on sometimes and then fades. Any thoughts?
Dealership unable to find anything wrong. Referred problem to Kia. Service Manager said he has not seen any TSB re: problem, but thought he had read somewhere about Amantis with the "Infinity Sound System" having such a problem. Essentially, my reading 'between the lines' indicates nothing is going to be done by Kia. This summer, I'll get rid of the car unless Kia contacts me before then with a solution. Nice ... Read More
I have a 2005 Kia Amanti which has had 4 Throttle Body Assembly replacements so far. I found literally over a hundred online complaints by other owners with the same acceleration issues reoccuring with low mileage and higher mileage on their new Amanti's in 2004/2005{surging, no acceleration, car goes 10MPH, accidents, and near accidents, etc. It is a nightmare driving this car when this problem reappears. Imagine suddenly having almost no ... Read More
I agree with you regarding KIA. They have never officially admitted there was a problem, and just turned customers away with a standard line 'we cannot duplicate the problem'. In doing so, they showed no interest in the safety of consumers purchasing their cars, OR the consumers that would be endangered, when the problem happened during driving. They wanted to insure primarily that the ratings for the Amanti remained pristine, as ... Read More
I contacted the NTSA back in 2006 about the lag/lurch problem of our Amanti and it seemed to fall on deaf ears. Kia stonewalled the problem and doesn't seem that anyone has been able to get them to even acknowledge the problem. I unloaded my Amanti (AT GREAT EXPENSE) in January 2007 and bought a Honda. Never again will we own any Hyundai/Kia product, I don't care what kind of rave ... Read More
The Kia dealership checked the power amp and found its draw within normal specs, thus, that's apparently not causing my problem. Interestingly, the dealership has had no response from Kia to its January 7th inquiry as to what else may be causing it. That does not speak well for Hyundai/Kia attending to customer complaints. Right now, it looks like I'll be getting rid of this car in the near future, and ... Read More
I totally understand you because today I went used car dealer shop, see 2004 KIA amanti and felt that what you are talking about. I have a 2004 kia amanti that loses power when it gets hot out or after driving 30 miles and the car gets hot. Same problem with my 2004 Amanti. Airbag light remained on after start up. The dealership technician replaced the battery and cleared the computer codes and it appears the problem was corrected. My battery did not appear o be getting weak as all other electrical systems and indicators were operating OK including cold weather statr-up. Perhaps KIA needs to put out a bulletin on this problem as it took the technician about ... Read More
One last thing. This 'reprogramming' appears to have resolved the following items for me: Sudden acceleration (jack rabbiting) of vehicle when pressing on gas pedal; no acceleration when pressing on gas pedal. Also, my vehicle is a 2005, I do not know if the TSB for my vehicle also applies to 2006 models. However, I had 'heard' that there were no real changes between the 2005 & 2006 models, but this ... What would cause the battery to drain...I do not think I left the lights on....I have 28,000 miles and never had this problem before. Should I take it in to the dealer tomorrow even if it starts ok..please advice.
MagMax, could you give me the links to the other pictures? I've been searching daily and I can't find any. I wrote to Kia earlier today asking if Amanti will look like the '07 Opirus and when can I expect it at my dealer, as I'll be ready to trade, but I've not received an answer yet. Mine is a 2004, garage kept with only 9,577 miles on it. Just got ... Read More
While I highly doubt it, has anyone here ever seen the old Nickelodeon show Rocket Power? It was about 4 kids living in a surf town in SoCal. What does this have to do with anything? Based on what the dealers are telling you, 2006's will probably to be built around August and shipped stateside by end of -or beginning of the new year. This is pure speculation on my part. I've had and expressed the same frustrations here in Canada and have also contacted the regional and head offices with suggestions for more publicity. And they're working on it. Sales of the Amanti in Canada are running well ahead of their expectations so they must be getting the word out somehow, or maybe, and more likely, it's owners like us who are doing their advertising for me. It's rare that a ... Read More
Typical Saturday ads--lots of new cars. I noticed at least one 2006 being advertised already. There were several ads by KIA dealers--one advertised the 2005 Amanti, others didn't show the Amanti at all. The dealer where I bought mine over a year ago now is still advertising the 2004. I'd sure like it if KIA would do more Amanti promotion the way they do the Sorento. (There was a full page ... Read More
Hi Barb: The vibration that I experienced is only in the front end and only over badly paved or patched roads. The tires are not the problem. The sound has been described before in this forum: it sounds like a number of tennis balls bouncing up and down. By the way, my Amanti is at the dealer's today, and will be there tomorrow, so they can perform what is required in ... Read More
Bill H.- Don't buy that line ("2004's from 'around the country'", someone else reported hearing that at another dealership somewhere else in this Kia Amanti forum). As much as I love the car too, they have not been selling well up here (New England), my hunch is the 'sedan' buyers are opting for the base Chrysler 300, a Hyundai, or are waiting for the new Hyundai Sonata and Azera. (At $29K ... Read More
Hi - a friend bought a dealer used 2004 Amanti and was very impressed with it except for the front end noise where the struts/suspension was found to be bottoming out (after 6 visits to dealer and threatening with Mass. I believe it was post #716 where I mentioned my clunk wasn't fixed with the "new" bushings. I called my dealer today based on your post, Tom, in hopes that Kia was still working to fix this annoying problem. My dealer says there is no new TSB. I then called Kia on their 800# and they were no help either. I'll wait for a few weeks (before calling again) while hoping ... Read More
Hi again, While at my KIA/Jeep/Subaru dealer today for the strut & bushing replacement that never happened, I strolled the dealer's lot while waiting for a 3,000 mi. servicing. I noticed since my last visit about a month ago that there are now 2005 Amantis on the dealer's lot where there where no 2005s a month ago. They must have 8-10 2005's and just 2 2004s. Hi folks, I took my 2004 Amanti (4800 mi on it) into the dealer today to have the front struts and bushing replaced on both sides. We have 4 Kia dealers in the Orlando metro area. I noticed for couple of weeks now that the largest dealer keeps advertising new 2004 Amantis while they advertise 2005's in the other models in the newspaper. Hi photocat, I would suggest that you purchase a 2005 model Amanti instead of a 2004. The first thing the service men told me when i brought in my 2004 was that there was a miscalculation on the sleeve and bushing length on the 2004 that was corrected on the 2005. As a consumer I would have liked to have known that two weeks before when I purchased the car as ... Read More

Also in the Central Florida area (the Orlando Sentinel Newspaper) there are 4 Kia dealers and the two biggest ones that have ads in the Sat. paper always have 2004 Amantis. I have worried about this myself. At least they are now saying 7 in stock instead of 21. Bill
Yesterday (Sunday) as I looked at the large ad by one of the Phoenix area's biggest KIA dealers boasting of over 270 new KIAs in stock, I noticed the Amanti was not pictured.....not even mentioned.... So, I wonder why. I know up to now, with 2005 one-fourth over, the only Amanti ads I've actually seen were for "all new" 2004's (that was only last week!)
Well, I have read about this frontend noise being like a knock, clunk, tennis ball, etc., and never heard it with my Amanti. I figured because mine was manufactured after that magical April 04 date. But then recently over very rough roads, cobblestone roads, where it's uneven I started hearing what sounded like something was lose or hitting against the frame ... Read More

I think so. However, months ago I became concerned when I didn't see many on the road, advertising on them seemed to suddenly disappear, and the local dealer's inventory was always extremely lean. It's funny you mention about no ads. I'm in Orlando, Fl and I finally saw two Amanti commercials just today during the Today Show. Oh - I forgot to mention: The dealer that gave us the ridiculously good deal was "Avondale Kia", just off the I-10 on the west side of Phoenix, Arizona.
